Barena Brand Guide

Barena’s brand philosophy comes from their passion for the rediscovery of the Venetian tradition, which is also inspired by the spirit of research. In fact their whole collection is inspired by the ‘peculiar’ dress code which was created and worn by the people who lived in these specific areas. Many of Barenas garments are reinterpretations of unique, historic pieces found in museums, antique markets or books that portray an aged image.

Barena

Barena comes from the Venetian term ‘baro’ which derives from the Celtic barre. This indicates the territory between land and water in the Venetian lagoon. Barena is inspired by those who lived in the area of the Venetian lagoon, who would practise everything naturally. They defined their own style which is named Lagunare, which is both unique and distinctive.

Sandro Zara founded Barena in 1961, with the passion for costumes and traditional textile design. From the founding of the brand, all those who collaborate in the projects of Barena all have one thing in common; their passion for unique and simple design. The result of Barena is down to the talented work of Massimo Pigozzo who is supported by members of the Zara family in his work for the brand.

Barena is new to Aphrodite for the Autumn/Winter season, offering de constructed blazers in a range of colours and styles which are so conveniently easy to style. Barena only use premium materials to bring their designs to life, including cotton and linens for a cooler finish. The look of the blazer not having a streamline slim fit strips the idea of the blazer being a formal piece. It’s all a bit more relaxed, meaning it can be worn simply with a pair of jeans and a t-shirt for a day out instead of for a smarter occasion.

A silhouette such as the Slanega blazer is unstructured but offers a smart three button fastening and standard notched lapel to add formality and endless style. Available in three coordinating colour-ways including dark grey, navy and military green. The blazers are crafted from mostly wool, making them both comfortable and practical for the colder weather. The warmth this blazer will bring when layered over a shirt or tee means you can still dress smart even when the winter months hit. The Slanega offers three front pockets, including a smart chest pocket and two to the hip. A Barena blazer would be the perfect buy to wear for those Autumn/Winter functions and parties, with all colours being sophisticated and subtle.

The Torceo silhouette is a mix between an unstructured blazer and cardigan, making it the perfect layering piece. Still offering the standard formal notched lapel like the Slanega, it is crafted from the finest wool and has been made in Italy, ensuring flawless quality throughout the garment. The Torceo is unlined and mid-weight, making it a snug piece of knitwear which could be worn with jeans and a tee underneath with a jacket over the top to give a layered look.

Why not double up on Barena and wear the sophisticated Lancia jacket over a matching wool blazer? The Lancia jacket in dark grey is a double breasted masterpiece which follows the same unconstructed shape as the brands iconic blazers. Again, this jacket is crafted in Italy and has distressed style buttons to give a more edgy look. The jacket is fully lined, making it warmer and giving it premium wear-ability.
