Nike Air Sock Racer Ultra Flyknit | Releasing 27th of April

Nike Air Sock Racer Ultra Flyknit | Releasing 27th of April

Building on the momentum from their Air Max Day releases last month, Nike once again set their sights on their archives for more vintage silhouettes to remaster with its latest technologies. This time it’s the turn of their 1985 marathon runner, the Air Sock Racer. With its distinctive twin-strap design in place of laces and one-piece mesh upper, this was a radical design that’s proven to be ahead of its time; with the current trend for one-piece sock-fit uppers on sneakers, it bears remembering that this was Nike’s first ever running shoe to try such a design.

The new Ultra Flyknit tooling makes perfect sense with this concept in mind, with the woven Flyknit uppers and Free sole unit reducing the mass of the shoe even further while increasing comfort, durability and breathability. The straps and heel quarter also get an upgrade in soft nubuck leather, allowing the wearer to customise the fit to their liking. Also worth noting is the low-key branding, with Nike’s iconic Swoosh conspicuously absent from the upper of the shoe, only appearing on the rubber heel tab and subtly embossed to the midsole.

Three colourways are releasing: the ever-popular ‘Oreo’ black and white; a muted pale grey and black; and, in a nod to the OG, a bright yellow and black. All three colourways will be available from Aphrodite Clothing on 27th of April.
