The first requirement of an outerwear garment is to protect one from the elements. The second function is to carry items. In the latter, placing items in various pockets spreads the weight. Thirdly, some (not all) expect the garment to be stylish. I’ve listed these in order of importance. I imagine most men will agree with that. The Belstaff Trialmaster Panther exudes top quality. My first, a tan one bought second hand from eBay cost £300. Over the years, I’ve lost count of the number of young guys who admire it. Disarmingly, I simply say: “it’s older than you.’ My boyfriend bought me a dark brown one for Christmas two years ago. I’ve now picked up a black one, like new, half the RRP on eBay again. I’m going to resist getting another one.
