Adidas Sobakov

Casual Comeback: adidas Sobakov

It’s been adidas’ prerogative to create refreshing and engaging silhouettes using what they know best, their knowledge of football. The brand is fresh from a smattering of re-releases in the football world namely their recent drop of the legendary Predator Precision in pack form, alongside an introduction to the world of a new model, the Kamanda. Now we’re being treated to a collision of sorts from the 3 stripes in the form of the bafflingly named Sobakov (Dog, in Russian).

The connection to Russia isn’t out of place for adidas, their seasonal work with designer Gosha Rubchinskiy drawing attention with every collaboration, primarily his work on their footwear lending his designs to the Predator series, as well as the hybrid design Ace 16+. In the Sobakov’s case, it’s a similar creative spark that has brought a plethora of influences to the table for an array of adidas’ best work of late.

The paramount influence has been drawn from the design of adidas’ Kamanda, the brand’s modern ode to the football terrace styles of the 80s. Its minimal asymmetrical design provides the base silhouette of the Sobakov, echoing composition cues of indoor and court classics like the Samba, Gazelle and Campus. Replacing the material of the upper with a knitted textile and wrapping the heel with a swooping 3 stripes, the Predator series instantly comes to mind.

All of this legendary detail sits on a moulded gum sole, rounding out adidas’ classic samba complexion & David Beckham’s own Champagne Predator boot as the leading colourways for the new releases. With its bulbous curve at the rear, this is something that though lacking boost will still be drawing in Yeezy fans with its curvature. A padded pink leather insole displays the unmistakable name, rounding out this bold drop.
