Clarks Wallabee Cup

Enter The Clarks Originals Wallabee Cup

Just landed – Clarks Originals Wallabee Cup Plus OG Newness

Since the Wallabee first debuted in the ‘60s, few shoes have rivalled its ubiquitous, tangible hold on trend-driven society. Not only a perennial player in the footwear realm but amidst a range of popular subcultures too, the silhouette is a cult classic that yields immense longevity. Each season it’s reworked in a multitude of materials and shades and for 2021 the design has taken a bulbous turn… Allow us to introduce the Clarks Originals Wallabee Cup.

Clarks Originals Wallabee Cup Black

Available in warm maple and intense black colourways, the Wallabee Cup is noticeably different shape-wise in comparison to its forerunner. This new kid on the block takes that signature crepe sole that Clarks has become so synonymous with and rendered it into a cup sole instead – allowing the flexible, latex bonding to cradle the entire circumference of the shoe. This higher sidewall allows for enhanced protection where the toe and heel are both concerned.

Clarks Originals Wallabee Cup Maple

Aside from its chunky sole, the shoe’s identity remains largely unchanged; the ankle-skimming profile is reaffirmed, the iconic moccasin construction – originally inspired by an old German design dubbed the ‘Grasshopper’ – is present alongside the crinkly, lightweight cushioning that resides underfoot. Buttery nubuck and plush suede are dusted across the upper of each design respectively.

While the Aphrodite office remains very much abuzz with the arrival of the Wallabee Cup, we can’t go on without touching upon the OG, which too has landed on our desks in striking new tones. If you were looking to slip further under the radar in 2021 (if that’s even possible after 2020’s stay-at-home agenda), a camouflage rendition is available, complete with a marbled, modern guise.

Clarks Off White Camo

Elsewhere, a ‘grey combi’ version recalls the shoe’s acid-house heyday, saturated pops of turquoise at the lining, heel, swing tag and sole evoke memories of that hedonistic era which went on to define a generation.

Clarks Wallabee Grey Combi

Whether you’re looking to freshen up your collection with the brand-new Clarks Originals Wallabee Cup or relive your youth by stepping into the original Wallabee, get on board with this quintessentially British brand and shop styles online at Aphrodite now.

Aphrodite Christmas Wishlist

Staff Christmas Wishlist : Jonny

What’s On Our Wishlist…

Whether you’re itching to self-splurge this festive period or still have some essential gift hunting to undertake, who better to gain some seasonal inspiration from than the Aphrodite team? Depended on in-store for our trusty know-how and commended by customers for our daily fits; we’re certainly well versed when it comes to the designer products that are suspended from our rails. Forgive us for blowing our own trumpet though.

Having worked for the company for four-plus years, Aphrodite Store Supervisor Jonny finds himself shrewdly guiding shoppers into making the right purchases throughout the week. And this time, he’s kindly selected his top picks for our customers, this time – far and wide, to enjoy virtually. So, kick back and let’s delve into the expert’s favourite AW20 items.

Staff Wishlist Aphrodite

Patagonia Retro Pile Fleece Jacket

In recent years we’ve all become aware of the harsh reality that the fashion industry imposes on carbon emissions, pollution, waste and the general sustainability of planet earth. With this in mind, it has never felt more imperative to make wiser choices when we’re shopping, but luckily for us, outdoor-centric brand Patagonia is always on hand to keep our mindsets conscious.

Offering an assortment of sustainable styles for AW20, Patagonia continue to bolster their eco-friendly aesthetic as the seasons tick by. This winter we’ve welcomed a range of recycled fleece silhouettes from the brand.

Patagonia Retro Fleece Jacket

Jonny wears the Patagonia Retro Pile Fleece Jacket in El Cap Khaki which is crafted from double-side recycled polyester shearling for a snug and superbly sustainable finish.

“The Patagonia fleece is perfect for this time of year, can easily be worn on its own or as a layering piece underneath a jacket.”

Gramicci Just Cut NN Pants

Boasting a design philosophy that’s free from unnecessary drama, climbing brand Gramicci is lauded globally for its no-nonsense but function-first approach to menswear. The label’s gimmick-free agenda never waivers each season and this understated attitude continuously helps Gramicci top all of our wishlists in store.

Finding a harmonious balance between work and play, the Gramicci ‘Just Cut NN’ pants are the answer to all of your wardrobe’s FAQs. Wider on the leg and falling just short of the ankle, at exactly 7cm shorter than the label’s standard NN design, these bottoms offer added volume, turned up cuffs and a gusseted crotch for unrestricted movement through a range of activity.

Gramicci NN Just Cut Pants

Jonny wears Gramicci Just Cut NN Pants in Navy.

“I own three colours in this style so I’m sure another pair wouldn’t go a miss.’

Nike Challenger OG Trainers

Nike trainers always go down a treat with our in-store team and this year we’ve found ourselves in possession of vintage Swoosh runners and a selection of fresh-faced arrivals live and direct from Nike HQ. All in all, there’s been a silhouette in there for everyone.

Jonny’s recent favourite though is the Nike Challenger OG. Donning a retro palette that consists of primary hues, this ultra-lightweight shoe melds suede and mesh across the upper for a breathable but textured finish. Underfoot, a responsive foam midsole cushions every pursuit you plan for while a stable rubber sole keeps things durable.

Nike Challenger OG Trainers

Jonny wears the Nike Challenger OG in University Red / Coastal Blue.

“I’m a big fan of Nike running shoes from the late ’70s and early ’80s so I’m really enjoying the re-releases of the Challenger, Tailwind and Daybreak.”

Staff Christmas Wishlist : Jorge

What’s On Our Wishlist…

In-store customers rejoice, we’re back in action after nationwide restrictions forced the high-street to lie low for a second time this year and, just like you, we’re enjoying making up for last month’s lost time. Staff members are steadily reuniting, familiar faces are stepping back through the doors, Christmas lists are being whittled down and, collectively, we’re all basking in the latest deliveries to hit our racks.

You see our in-store team thrive most when surrounded by the company of customers and this is down to one common ground shared between both parties – a genuine affinity for the designer brands and products we carry. In fact, the outfit choices of our staff members often generate huge interest from customers in-store and therefore inform their shopping habits. That’s no surprise though since the Aphrodite team are well versed when it comes to personal style and designer know-how.

When it comes to our roster, few people are better informed than full-time Sales Assistant Jorge which is why he’s handpicked his favourite items to offer you a dose of seasonal gift inspiration. Keep on reading to find out what’s on Jorge’s #StaffChristmasWishlist.

Staff Christmas Wishlist

Taion Button Down Vest

Roughly meaning ‘body temperature’ in Japanese, Taion doesn’t just inform this outerwear brand’s namesake but also its entire design philosophy. Running no risk of getting lost in translation, Taion’s garments are wholly thermal in every realm – they employ high-quality fabrics, baffle constructions and unrestrictive fits to deliver a contemporary capsule of layering must-haves.

Taion Button Down Vest

Jorge opts for the Taion Button Down Vest in Black:

“I’m a big fan of Tokyo-hailing label Taion – they’re new to our roster for AW20 and provide some great layering pieces for this time of year.”

Stone Island Cargo Pants

Trends within the menswear circuit come, go and swing in roundabouts. From time to time certain looks and products will transcend and then never be seen or heard of again for decades. A prime example of this is the resurgence of cargo pants which men across the globe welcomed back into their lives circa 2018 and seemingly haven’t looked back since.

Stone Island Cargo Trousers

Reworked with a fresh, urban edge but with the same exact functionalities, the new-look cargo pant is tailor-made for the cityscape. Jorge opts for Stone Island Cargo Pants in Green.

“These trousers are exceptionally comfortable and ideal for the busy Christmas period serving on the shop floor!”

Nike Air Max 270 Vistascape Trainers

Last up on Jorge’s Staff Wishlist, but by no means least, is a fresh-faced arrival from Swoosh HQ. The Nike Air Max 270 Vistascape first landed on our radar earlier this year, bringing a small shot of delight to an otherwise turbulent year for all. Borrowing design codes from Nike’s ‘All Conditions Line’, this particular version embodies utilitarian accents and function-heavy detailing.

Nike Air Max 270 Vistascape Trainers

Jorge opts for the Nike Air Max 270 Vistascape Trainers in Light Orewood Brown.

“The great thing about this design is that it fuses three top Nike silhouettes into one shoe!”

Gifts For Him Designer

Designer Gifts For Men

Christmas Gifts For Him

Somehow – we repeat – somehow, we’ve found ourselves in the twelfth and final month of the year once again. Yes, it’s December 2020 and oh what a strange year it’s proved to be. And while these last months will remain etched in history books for eternity, it’s a point in time that we’re all looking forward to turning the page on. . . Agreed? Anyways, less of the gloom and doom chit chat from us because it’s nearly Christmas and it’s never felt more important to spread a little festive cheer, so, here we are and we’re raring to go.

We’re not sure about you but for us, as the years go by, gift-giving becomes considerably more satisfying than gift-receiving, that’s – of course – if you get it right. So, if you’re still locked in intense deliberation over what to get the men in your life look no further as our gift guide can hopefully put the pedal to the metal and steer you well. Check out our curated selection of designer gifts for men below.

Timeless Footwear

Our picks – Stepney Workers Club Dellow Trainers & Grenson Bobby Hiker Boots

Personal taste aside, footwear is always a great place to start when it comes to gifting. It’s a given that men tend to enjoy box-fresh kicks and even more so when they are wholly versatile. Styles with too much noise and not enough ageless sensibilities are a complete no go, simply because they don’t have the ability to serve the wearer endlessly. One brand that certainly nails that no-nonsense approach is Stepney Workers Club; a home-grown label with a liberal attitude and a plethora of vulcanized, timeless trainers on board.

Our favourite is the ‘Dellow’ silhouette in military green. Shop it here.

Grenson Bobby Hiker Boots

For smarter occasions, we still recommend that you pursue fuss-free silhouettes in quality constructions. Perhaps the Grenson Bobby hiker boot is your best bet – it’s wrapped in a warm taupe tone, featuring a metal eyelet lacing system and that signature high-rise wedge sole. Shop it here.

Designer Headwear

Capable of kicking your winter ‘fits up that extra notch, designer beanies balance the need for warmth and comfort with the desire for status. Here at Aphrodite, we boast an expansive range of woollen beanies from an array of revered menswear brands, such as Stone Island, CP Company, Maison Kitsune, Ami, Norse Projects and more.

Status-Heavy Outerwear

Our picks – Moncler Vignemale Jacket & Stone Island Crinkle Reps Gilet

Winter is well on its way and what better time to flex your designer jacket collection then over the Christmas period? While our top picks from outerwear experts Moncler and Stone Island come dripping in status they are also immensely functional for cool climes.

Perfect for retaining heat from the torso, Stone Island’s Crinkle Reps gilet is delivered in a dependable olive colourway with a garment-dyed, textured exterior finish. Taking reference from military surplus, the utilitarian design is made to be wind-resistant and features three handy pockets for storing essentials. Shop it here.

Outerwear Aphrodite Clothing

The Moncler Vignemale jacket comes in an eye-popping shade of emerald-green with a shiny nylon laqué outer. Guaranteed to provide insane levels of warmth to the lucky person you’re gifting it to, the silhouette boasts a direct feather injection technique which evenly distributes the down insulation throughout baffles. Shop it here.

Contemporary Knitwear

Our Picks – Cosy styles from Norse Projects, A.P.C. and Maison Kitsuné

The weather forecast is forever fickle here in Britain which means that you can never have enough cashmere and merino wool layers to bundle up in, so it’s a good job that our favourite European exports Norse Projects, A.P.C. and Maison Kitsune have plenty of charming winter knits for you to either self-indulge in or lovingly present to someone else.

Everything COMME des GARÇONS

Rated by those in the know for decades, Rei Kawakubo’s multi-faceted design studio COMME des GARÇONS is a favourite with the fashion elite. This Tokyo-hailing label’s aesthetic is unorthodox and littered with flashy logos, making it the ideal go-to for hype-worthy gifts with a distinctly youthful taste in mind. From the COMME des GARÇONS PARFUMS collection to the brand’s expansive WALLET lineup and of course the lauded COMME des GARÇONS SHIRT range, there are extravagant gestures and small treasures up for grabs for all.

Comme des Garcons WALLET

We’re hopeful that we’ve rounded up plenty of designer gifts for men that you can shortlist this festive season, however, if you’re still yet to put your finger on that certain something you can shop our full range of gifts here.

Enjoy, stay safe & have a very merry Christmas from the entire team here at Aphrodite.

About Lanvin Paris

Lanvin Paris Brand Guide

Find Out About Lanvin Paris

A mainstay on the Parisian fashion week lineup and an integral part of the industry’s history, Lanvin remains France’s oldest and most storied maison. Established in the 19th century by Jeanne Lanvin, the label has worked hard to embrace a series of generational and trend shifts during its 131 years in operation, not forgetting to mention the plethora of prolific creative directors it’s called family over the decades.

History of Lanvin:

With strong roots to the hat industry, former milliner apprentice Jeanne Lanvin humbly set up the eponymous brand in 1889 after clothing she had hand produced for her daughter, Marie-Blanche de Polignac, started to command attention on the tangled streets of Paris. Soon after, mothers in their masses were requesting garments for their own children, and eventually, due to overwhelming demand, Jeanne opened up her own boutique on the iconic rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré which steadily drew in some of Europe’s finest clientele.

Lanvin Sneaker Collection

Exactly two decades after the brand first transcended the fashion scene, and became one of France’s most revered monikers, Lanvin officially became a member of Syndicat de la Couture – the regulating body for haute couture. The term haute couture has a longstanding history and a tangible prestige within France. It’s widely understood that only the crème de la crème of the fashion industry produces a haute couture line, so when Jeanne officially became a couturière in 1909, and the house an atelier, it was a monumental move that would go on to shape the brand’s identity.

Having gained huge recognition in the haute couture sphere, Lanvin ushered in its first menswear line in 1926 which further articulated the house’s ability to challenge all creative genres. In this same era the brand expanded its boutiques to carry home décor.

Creative Directors of Lanvin:

Over the years Lanvin has evolved and steadily adapted to the times, with lauded designers including Lucas Ossendrijver, Olivier Lapidus and Bouchra Jarrar taking the helm at various pivotal moments. Most notably, Alber Elbaz, an Israeli-born fashion designer, who held tenure at the company for a total of fourteen years, bolstered the esteem of Lanvin within contemporary culture.

A true labour of love, self-confessed workaholic Elbaz revived a true ‘sleeping beauty’ within the house when he was handed the reins in the early noughties; allowing the collections to acquire a distinctly younger taste, with many of his signature styles becoming trademarks, such as exposed zippers and button plackets in the reverse – hallmarks which still inform Lanvin designs to this day.

Since early 2019 Bruno Sialelli has steered the ship, having arrived from Loewe and with previous positions at Paco Rabanne and Balenciaga under his belt, it’s safe to say that Lanvin is in safe hands with Sialelli on board.

Nike Air Max Vistacape Triple Black

Introducing the Swoosh’s fresh-faced triple – black – threat

Good news, a fresh-faced arrival from Swoosh HQ has just landed here at Aphrodite, introducing the Nike Air Max Vistascape, a brand-new silhouette to feast your eyes on as we come to the end of a turbulent 2020. And while this newbie might appear reversed on the surface, please don’t confuse its lack of vibrancy for weakness, it’s quite the triple – black – threat, indeed.

Air Max Vistascape

Leaning heavily on utilitarian design cues, the Nike Air Max Vistascape is delivered here in an all-black colourway with a rendering of durable ripstop up top and lashings of reinforced leather for a tonal and three-dimensional look and feel.

Air Max Vistacape Sneakers

Underfoot the brand’s innovative tendencies are wholly expressed as the Swoosh’s trusty Air bubble and React technology join forces to shoulder the burden of everyday wear and tear, bringing spring-imbued cushioning and a smooth, uncompromised ride to the lower foundations of this Nike Air Max Vistacape.

Vistascape Sneakers

As with many of the street-ready styles that are taking the sneaker scene by storm at the moment, this Air Max design is detailed with a toggle lock lacing system which further defines the fit on the upper foot. Elsewhere, a small swatch of Air branding graces the tongue, acting as the only hit of saturated colour that you’ll discover on this stealthy, blacked-out offering.

Right Hand Jacket Parajumpers

Parajumpers Right Hand Jacket : Staff Knowledge Share

The Parajumpers Right Hand Jacket Explained

The new kid on the block in terms of our roster but sure to make an instant impression thanks to its unparalleled practicality, American outerwear specialist Parajumpers could very well be your next go-to when it comes to buying an indispensable winter staple and expert Aphrodite Sales Assistant Mykal is here to tell you why the Parajumpers ‘Right Hand’ jacket should be a strong contender when whittling your favourite jackets down.

Parajumpers at Aphrodite

Backstory & Construction:

Based on the mantra ‘that others may live’, in 2005 Parajumpers was launched by Massimo Rosseti – a fully-fledged design veteran in the outerwear realm. Inspired by a chance meeting with a serving member of the Alaskan 210th Rescue Squadron, Rosseti set about curating a functional jacket collection that truly pushed the boundaries of innovation.

Taking reference from the extreme rescue and recovery missions that the dedicated men and women of the 210th Rescue Squadron undertake, Parajumpers jackets are tailor made for unpredictable conditions and far-flung destinations across the globe.

The Parajumpers Right Hand jacket is particularly suited to inclement weather and the construction can prove it. Made from a robust nylon oxford fabric, its exterior has undergone a special treatment that makes it both dirt and rain resistant while also boasting inner lamination for enhanced protection. Taped seams at the hood, shoulders and armholes further increase its will to withstand heavy wind and rain.

With a fill rating of 700, the silhouette is superlatively thermal and is formulated with a ratio of 90% down and 10% feathers (sourced responsibly as a byproduct) and although many factors can determine an individual’s need for insulation, this jacket has a certified Parajumpers temperature rating of 3 which is considered very high and wholly appropriate for colder climates. Aspects which may affect internal heat production include – activity levels – such as climbing – and strong, high-speed winds.

Trimmed with a coyote fur ruff sourced from Canada, which can be detached based on your own personal preference, the Right Hand jacket comes detailed with an assortment of pocket space, comprising a roomy cargo pocket that’s lined with mesh, two cosy handwarmer pockets, a secure interior pocket and a zippered sleeve pocket residing with pride next to the iconic PJS patch.

Signed off with the Parajumpers signature – the famous and highly technical snap-hook neck for a fully functional feel – the garment’s completed with faux shearling at the inner collar for an ultra soft finish on the skin while ribbed cuffs work to lock in essential heat on the arms.

Parajumpers Fit & Sizing:

  • The Parajumpers Right Hand jacket currently runs in size M – XXL at Aphrodite.
  • We recommend selecting your usual size in this silhouette as it is deemed a regular fit.

Parajumpers Right Hand Jacket

Garment Care:

Although machine washable – where you can, we would avoid running this jacket through the washing machine as it can affect the even distribution of the down internally. Instead, buff subtle marks by hand on the outer.

Alternative:

The Gobi jacket by Parajumpers is cheaper than the Right Hand at a price of £775. Visually, this alternative is almost a carbon copy of the Right Hand jacket, however, it runs slightly shorter at the hem – sitting directly on the hips unlike its counterpart which resides further down. Available in black and bush green colourways, it’s part of the brand’s Masterpiece collection and is designed to take on the harshest outdoor excursions.

Available now in-store and online at Aphrodite, the Parajumpers Right Hand jacket is £839.

Canada Goose Chilliwack Jacket

Canada Goose Chilliwack Bomber Jacket : Staff Knowledge Share

The Canada Goose Chilliwack Bomber Jacket Explained

When it comes to designer knowledge and the finer details of various Aphrodite items, few people are wiser in the area than our very own store staff. The Aphrodite ‘Staff Knowledge Share’ series offers our team members the chance to share their expertise on a wide range of luxury brands that call our roster home and this week it’s Jorge’s turn to explore the Canada Goose Chilliwack Bomber Jacket. Fiercely durable and guaranteed to keep you toasty when the weather takes a turn for the worse, let’s find out what Sales Assistant Jorge knows about this iconic design.

Canada Goose Jacket

Backstory & Construction:

Currently available in black and royal blue (Polar Bear Institute) colourways, with red, olive and graphite versions served up seasonally, the Chilliwack Bomber jacket is a personal favourite with Aphrodite customers. Though nowhere near as bitter as the Arctic, from which the brand continually draws inspiration, up here in the North of England things can turn pretty cold, pretty quickly, which is why jackets of this thermal caliber are well-loved in the region.

Crafted with a robust polycotton outer that’s sure to resist general wear and tear, plus heavy abrasions, it’s lined with nylon which makes it efficient in gliding on top of base layers for that extra swatch of warmth. Additionally, the Chilliwack boasts a fill power rating of 625, therefore meriting the silhouette immensely insulating. More specifically, the utilised duck down has approximately two million fluffy filaments that interlock and overlap with each ounce, creating warming pockets of air while worn through in testing temperatures. CG certifies the design appropriate for the most extreme conditions with a temperature gage of -10°C to -20°C.

A removable fur ruff is featured at the hood. The fur has been ethically sourced in North America and its purpose is to diminish air flow; instead framing the face and creating turbulent warm air within the hood which directly retains head and neck heat. This retention is further functioned with wiring set within the hood which provides stability and structure.

Water-resistant and imbued with Arctic Tech®, the shell of the garment features a zip closure and storm flap, four fleece-lined pockets with an extra zip pocket situated on the sleeve and ribbed trims for locking in body heat. With functionality firmly on side, Canada Goose complete the jacket’s exterior with some colourful details, including the signature red, white and blue disc logo, coupled alongside monikers placed at the zipper and bottom left pocket.

Canada Goose Fit & Sizing:

When investing in a jacket of the Chilliwack’s stature we know how important it is for our customers to be sure that they’re ordering the right size, which is why we’ve detailed some sizing advice in the notes below.

  • The Canada Goose Chilliwack Bomber runs from sizes S to XXL here at Aphrodite.
  • From past experience, we’ve found that our own customers tend to drop one size down to their normal size as the Chilliwack’s construction can be fairly generous. However, if you’re happy to take the time to test various sizes, we always recommend starting with your usual size.

Caring for the Canada Goose Chilliwack Bomber Jacket:

  • Dry clean only. Remove fur ruff before dry cleaning to avoid damage.
  • Do not machine wash.
  • As a standard, Canada Goose offer a lifetime guarantee if the product is faulted by themselves – offering to repair or replace the jacket if damaged.

Canada Goose Chilliwack

Adds Ons & Alternatives:

The Chilliwack Bomber Jacket can be paired with an array of CG accessories to ensure that your look is uniform from head to toe. Here at Aphrodite we stock a selection of Canada Goose hats & scarves in an assortment of colours for your liking.

If you’re unable to secure the size you need in the Chilliwack, we think the Canada Goose Wyndham Parka is a great alternative. Priced slightly higher at £895, it’s formulated with all of the same elements of the Chilliwack – just losing the bomber’s ribbed hemline and also opting for a new snap fastening.

Priced at £850, the Canada Goose Chilliwack Bomer Jacket is now available online and in-store at Aphrodite.
