5 Brands That Are Bossing Stripes This Season

We are going to show you the top 5 brands to rock stripes with this Summer.

Stripes are always going to be a good look no matter your age or gender, its a universal style that has stood the test of time and has thrived every season, especially in the summer thanks to its nautical heritage. The classic navy blue and white striped tees (also known as the Breton tee) that we know today originated from the French coastal region of Brittany. French Navy seamen in the area were given a striped woven top that featured 21 horizontal stripes (one for each of Napoleon’s victories) as their uniform, known as a matelotor marinière which helped them to be easily identified.

It holds a minimal style that gives your outfit a clean pattern. But there are many different ways to rock stripes as there are so many different styles Thick stripes, thin stripes, loads of stripes, a few stripes, horizontal, vertical, diagonal, there are many different types out there, you just need to find out which one fits your look the best. In this blog post, we show you five brands who are nailing the nautical theme.

#1 – A.P.C.

Outfit Grid – Heatwave, must have style day to night.

As a current of tropical air from the Atlantic Azores Islands hits the UK this weekend, we gear up for a scorcher of a bank holiday and what is claimed to be the start of the hottest May in four decades. Well, we know us Brits and whether its the beach by day or not, we know a beer garden, barbecue and at least one late night is on the cards, in true bank holiday fashion. Here’s a little something we put together to take you from day to night with a few things considered (comfort and coolness being the main competitors).

How To Style Black Jeans

The humble pair of jeans, your friend in your time of need, you can always rely on them to be the fundamental element to any outfit, whatever the occasion.

Now black jeans are the holy grail of the denim world; with their power to give a slightly slimming effect to an outfit.

HOW TO WEAR BLACK JEANS

We are all aware that the old faithful denim can be tarted up or down. The first look we are going to delve into is the smart casual, one of our favourite fashion terms ever.

For this article we have selected a pair jeans that will stand the test of time, and any styling looks we throw at them – the Edwin ED-80 Jeans in Black CS Selvage. A pair of jeans that should work for the average Joe. The ED-80 is a slim fit jean with a slightly tapered leg that works well for most men in their everyday lives. This pair of white-listed selvage denim has been crafted from a cotton and elastane blend resulting in comfort stretch fit, perfect for post pizza.

1. The Smart Casual Look – Black Jeans & White Shirt

To get the ball rolling, you will need a classic white shirt, an item any man of sound mind will have at least one of, and a man with a great mind will have an abundance of them. We have hand selected the APC Oxford Shirt in White, a shirt that has been crafted from sturdy oxford fabric with perfectly proportioned collar and mother of pearl buttons to the cuffs. Now, this piece firmly ticks off the smart aspect of the outfit, with a bold red marker.

The ultimate casual styled jacket ,with a sprinkle of refinement, is the iconic coach jacket. Our favourite one this season is the Saturdays NYC Copper Jacket in Stone Blue. This jacket has crafted from a nylon-polyester fabric that is double garment-dyed for a saturated colour and unique finish. The statement sneaker – is any outfit complete without a pair? We love kicks that give a punch, if that is physically possible, and the Nike Air Force 1 ’07 in Red Stardust do just that. The court legend has returned in a buttery suede upper in a soft dusty pink shade, that perfectly compliments the coach jackets stone blue. Here in the UK, we spend most of working lives wishing away our precious time until we can step foot off a plane and let the heat hit our sun deprived faces. 3. The Relaxed Look

The perfect way to end this guide has to be with our favourite day of the week, Sunday – the day of slouching. With black jeans being a such a blank canvas it is so simple to throw on your favourite sweater and look effortlessly cool. The sweatshirt we have on our lust list this week is the APC US Stars Sweatshirt in Grey, is have been proudly made in California U.S. and holds a simple, minimal style that follows a military aesthetic with APC branding on the chest with accompanying stars.

Since we are feeling so relaxed, we want to keep this look monochrome and laid back so a black sneaker is needed. Outfit – Step into Spring … British spring!

Spring is finally upon us and we can start to de-layer and look forward to showing a bit more flesh. For now, however, we’re in that up and down phase where it isn’t quite safe to take too much of a risk but we have started to dig out our summer cotton for some of that spring layering. Here’s our idea of a perfect mid-week ensemble for you to wake up that spring wardrobe ready for some summer action. Time to turn up those chino bottoms, throw on a cotton shirt and remember a sweater.

Today’s outfit features cotton pants by Albam, light cotton shirt by Folk, cotton sweatshirt and marl knit socks by Norse Projects, suede and leather trainers by Maison Margiela. We thought we’d add one of our favourite newcomers, this Grenson, citrus and deep musk scented candle. Mainly because it’s scent is now filling the living rooms of quite a few of us here at Aphrodite HQ and we want to share the love.

Outfit – Tokyo to Paris

This season we welcomed Japanese label Commes des Garçons Shirt to the Aphrodite family and as their array of t-shirts are too good not to shout about we thought we’d make some form of an introduction by teaming our favourite edition, the Tartan Logo T-Shirt, with a few pieces from the brand’s Paris based neighbours, thus providing a bit of fashion trivia along the way.

As French as Comme des Garcons Shirt may at first glance appear, it is always as a surprise that many learn its Japanese (Tokyo) origins and the brand is most certainly not alone in this theme as there are others who follow a similar suit, APC for instance, a Paris based brand founded by Tunisian fashion designer Jean Touitou. While designers Martin Margiela, of another Paris based label Maison Margiela, and Raf Simons, who held a three-year title as Dior’s creative director, are both of Belgian descent.

Today’s outfit features tartan text t-shirt by Comme des Garçons Shirt, black oversized hoodie by Maison Margiela, black jeans by APC, burgundy Ozweego III trainers by Adidas x Raf Simons and not forgetting this black logo backpack by Y3‘s Yohji Yamamoto because you cant speak of Paris and not include this technical genius, click link to see what we mean!

Outfit – Pastels and patterns

Our growing streetwear collection consists of some of your favourite brands and with the fashion genre quite possibly being at is most eclectic yet it was no surprise to see this season’s trends having an element of ‘clash’. With pastels, stripes and of course the relentless camo making prominent appearances we thought we’d throw something together to remind you it doesn’t have to be one or the other anymore.

Its all about the clash, outfit features black corduroy trousers by Nudie Jeans, striped colour block rugby shirt by Stussy, pink cotton coach jacket by Penfield, camo print waist bag by Eastpak and suede trainers by Vans.

Outfit – The Sartorial Minimalist

Norse Projects continue with their consistent minimal design silhouettes, and with every drop of collection items comes a ripple of excitement around Aphrodite HQ. Nothing has faltered in their SS18 collection which ranges in everything from spring pastel stripes to technically designed and constructed weather resistant jackets, and of course all the Norse staples in between. Here we chose a favorite from this weeks drop and popped it into a nice little weekend ensemble for you (you’re welcome). Introducing, the Norse Projects SS18 Jens Seersucker Zip Shirt, a navy seersucker cotton with black check detail, 2-way zip fastening, and discreet side pockets this is simplistic design at its finest.

Complete the look with this APC fine knit stripe jumper (or a crisp white oxford shirt to keep it even simpler), Norse Projects chino and contrasting marl socks and these super comfortable and durable Grenson canvas sneakers. All pieces that can be kept on rotation which is exactly how we like it. Have a good weekend.

It seems we’re officially into that teasingly annoying part of British springtime, temperatures seeming comfortably warmer one day and freezing the next or bright and sunny one day and miserably dull the next. Dressing for the occasion can be tricky but we have your back with these weekly installments curated to deter the ever-changing weather from hindering your plans (or your beloved footwear). Here you go lads, a few of your favorites here …

The latest installment from the Stone Island Marina collection was this long sleeve striped tee, perfect for this in-between weather and a staple piece you will have in rotation season after season. Outfit Grid – The Lazy Weekend Edit

This weekend called for an agenda free kick back in preparation for the bank holiday ahead. Nipping out for a paper, a coffee or meeting a friend for an afternoon bite was about as strenuous as it got and we’re easing into the new week with contentment. With that in mind we thought we’d throw together a nice, easy but comfortable (and of course stylish) ensemble that wouls perfectly depict your future lazy weekend intentions.

It was classically refined comfort all round last week as we got a sneak peek at the Maison Margiela and APC SS18 collection pieces (in store and online now) and this green striped, terry cloth, crew neck really caught our eye for numerous reasons. Styled here with APC soft jersey joggers, AMI heavy denim jacket, CDG x Spalwart trainers and wallet by APC … accessorise with a coffee carry cup, newspaper under arm and your favourite sunnies. We would like to point out that this is also a perfect travel outfit, not that we’re trying put ideas into your head though, just a passing thought!
