The storied history of the adidas Superstar is not to be disputed, the sneaker will reach the grand old age of 50 this year and some would argue that the silhouette is as popular now as it ever has been and we certainly wouldn’t argue with that.
To mark the celebratory occasion the label with the 3-Stripes has churned out a variety of special releases and the next edition is imminent, going by the name of the adidas Superstar Pure. Arriving as part of the brand’s most recent City Series offering, this wholesome iteration brings the shoe’s revered image to life using a collection of theatrical colourways.
Mixing mostly monochrome tones for a clashing contrast, the pack explores the cultural significance of the sneaker amidst the globe’s hotspots, comprising Tokyo, Shanghai, Paris, London, New York and Los Angeles as its focal points. These particular points of reference mark a shift in identity for the adidas Superstar which has previously held tenure among the NBA, the hip-hop scene and more recently possessing claim as a lifestyle icon.
The anatomy of the adidas Superstar Pure doesn’t actually fall far from the tree, although it replaces signature accents from that of its predecessor, including swapping out those famous serrated 3-Stripes for perforated detailing, it does hold tightly onto the iconic shell-toe shaping and contrast heel. Further elements consist of glossy Italian leather in the upper, city-specific credentials and a textural tongue.
