Who said minimalism had to be plain? It’s almost time for the 3 Stripes to unleash their latest lifestyle silhouette, the Deerupt Runner, on the world, and its bold, geometric look has generated a lot of buzz in the lead-up to its March 22^nd launch date.

adidas are no strangers to reworking silhouettes from their archives when designing something new; the i-5923 even used the shoe’s original archival notation for its name. With the Deerupt Runner, however, the approach was a bit different, with the design team honing in on a single feature, rather than an existing silhouette, to inform the entire process.

The design feature in question is the Dellinger Web midsole treatment, a net-like grid that covers the midsole foam, intended to help evenly control flex and downward compression through repeated use. Invented by former Nike employee – and Bill Bowerman protégé – Bill Dellinger, the namesake webbing was first used on the 1979 adidas Marathon trainer, one of the last designs overseen by Adi Dassler himself. Since then it has become an adidas hallmark for its trail running silhouettes, from the Oregon and its Ultra Tech variant, through the New York and onto more recent styles like the F/1.4.

Enchanted by the striking look that the web provides, the Deerupt’s design team decided to iterate on the concept, utilising its properties on not only the sole, but across the whole of the upper too. The two layers of differing mesh provide extra flexibility and a subtle amount of compression to the foot, as well as a uniquely dimensional visual aspect that’s certain to turn heads.

 

Along with its disruptive look, comfort is key to the Deerupt’s design. To complement its web-equipped uppers and sole, the removable insole features zoned Ortholite foam cushioning as the finishing touch, making the Deerupt the ideal go-to sneaker for the coming warmer months. Arriving in three colourways, including clean all-white; a pastel accented black-on-white; and the hero model dubbed ‘Solar Bird’ – a brash mash-up of the iconic adidas ‘Solar Red’ and ‘Bluebird’ makeups – you can stand out or blend in as much as you please.

All three styles of the adidas Deerupt Runner are launching online on the 22^nd of March from Aphrodite Clothing.
