adidas Home of The Classics Collection

adidas Home Of Classics Collection

With the release of the first phase of the collection earlier in the month, adidas once again go back to basics homing in on two tennis titans for another lesson in understated styling. Blanketing both the recently released SC Premiere and the timeless Supercourt in varying shades of white, the trainers see the same supple leather uppers with the addition of delicately contrasting suede overlays for a subtle nod to the sneakers rich heritage history. Riding on the now tried and tested rubber cupsole both trainers feature tasteful metallic gold branding to the tongue and a selection of both stitch and perforated detailing.

Get your hands on this new pairing online and in store at Aphrodite 21/06/19 or check out the rest of the collection below…

Miss out on the first release of the collection? Not too worry! Find out all you need to below and grab yourself a pair here.

Paying homage to the humble white sneaker and 50 years of adidas Originals, the Home of Classics Collection strips back a curated mixture of both recent arrivals and well-established mainstays in the three-stripe arsenal, highlighting their minimal versatility, universal appeal and rich archival history. Transcending the sporty path laid out in front of them, each shoe featured within the collection found themselves quickly adopted into almost every corner of the social sphere, skyrocketing them from everyday performance sneakers to the ubiquitous components that made up the uniform for a variety of sub-cultural movements.

adidas Home of Classics Collection Continental 80 Trainers

Whether you like yours worn in and battle damaged or prefer to keep things crisp and clean the Home of Classics collection promises something for everyone, reinstating iconic low-top models such as the Super Court, Continental 80, AR Trainer and SC Premiere to awe inducing levels of bare bones simplicity. Through the removal of somewhat distracting details such as coloured accents and overt branding, adidas use this collection as an opportunity to delve deeper into each silhouette’s intrinsic properties paying close attention to materials, construction and a plethora of more nuanced design elements.

adidas Home of Classics Continental 80 Sneakers

Simplifying things down to their most pure form, the collection splits into two parts with the first seeing each trainers staunch shape and refined lines enhanced by coatings of monochromatic white leather. Accompanied by delicate tonal stitching and a purposely yellowed midsole that makes nods to the trainers heritage roots, the collection employs a less is more approach providing a blank canvas for the trails and tribulations of everyday wear to be painted upon. To the tongue adidas employ an unconventional approach, placing the usually interior size guide to the front for a drop of contrast against the otherwise immaculate presentation.

adidas Home of Classics Collection AR Trainer

A standout of the collection is adidas’ modern remaster of the contemporary classic Stan Smith. Dubbed the Stan Smith Recon it comes complete with a number of subtle intricacies and quirky details, casting a superbly timeless image in the contemporary zeitgeist. Penned as a deluxe carbon copy of the original, the silhouette is treated to the same collection-wide supple leather uppers and further enhanced by the removal of the tennis namesake to the tongue. Displaying a hyper focus upon superior craftsmanship and muted expression, the trainers come equipped with the signature Three Stripes perforated on each side and are complete with the simplicity and stability of a rubber cupsole for a guaranteed slick ride through urban dimensions.

Boldly laying it all on the table in a testament to the enduring nature of their footwear adidas confidently exhibit the exact principals which have catapulted their designs to the front of the pack year after year, season after season… And who doesn’t love an all-white sneaker for summer?

adidas Home of Classics Stan Smith Recon Trainers

Top 10 Graphic Print T-Shirts

No matter if you’re team front print or back print, prefer your top half attire colourful or monochromatic, we can all agree that nothing screams summer like a good old-fashioned graphic t-shirt. Lightweight, breathable and packing a sufficiently weighty visual punch they are a great way to add some extra depth to your outfits when the spring layers begin to come away and your shorts finally find their way back from the dark corners of your winter wardrobe. So, with the temperature rising and the allure of the local beer garden becoming almost unbearable there has never been a better time to stockpile your short sleeve essentials and bulk up with a heaping helping of colourful callouts.

Maison Kitsune T-Shirt

Maison Kitsune

With a music label, coffee shops and an astoundingly good ready-to-wear line under their belt you’d probably imagine that Maison Kitsune are about ready to take a back seat and appreciate the multifaceted, tricolour empire they’ve manged to construct around them. Well, as the Franco-Japanese brand unveils its plans to open the first of its Kitsune hotels in 2020, we’re here to tell you that’s where your wrong and we have just the crustacean based t-shirt to prove it. Boasting a ribbed neck and cotton jersey fabric, the t-shirt swaps out the usual fox motif for a crab resulting in both a classically refined Kitsune style illustration and a clever bit of advertising for their Bali based accommodation. Top marks from us.

Paul & Shark T-Shirt

Paul & Shark

Continuing the theme of sea-based creatures up next we have Paul & Shark. Keeping quality high on the agenda the Italian yachting brand takes the humble t-shirt and imbues it seam to seam with their usual premium craftsmanship. Displaying a colourful rendition of the classic shark logo screen printed to the chest the garment is rounded out with double-stitched hems, a ribbed neck and a slightly less weighty cotton perfect for the rising temperatures.

Patagonia T-Shirt

Patagonia

No stranger to the occasional colourful back print, Patagonia again return this season with a fresh addition to their t-shirt line-up. Made From 100% organic in the brand’s typical ecological fashion, the t-shirt comes with taped shoulder seams for improved shape retention and a bold psychedelic mountain sunset scene plastered to the rear. If this doesn’t make you want to power your way to the top of the nearest slight incline we don’t know what will.

Ten C T-Shirt

Ten C

In-keeping with the brand’s militaristic aesthetic this Ten C t-shirt swaps out loud prints for a more subdued approach, instead opting to let it’s Italian made quality do all the talking. With side splits adding an extra dash of functionality and a bound neck for structure the t-shirt is rounded out with a lowkey shoulder logo print.

Paul Smith T-Shirt

Paul Smith

In somewhat contrasting fashion, next up is British designer Paul Smith. Using their affinity for colourful characters the short sleeve top exchanges the usual zebra motif for a slightly more morbid line-up of printed skulls to the chest. Subtly flanked by the brands logo below the t-shirt is made from 100% cotton and comes with the selection of ribbing naturally found in a top-half garment of this stature.

adidas Originals T-Shirt

adidas

Tapping into one of our most basic human instincts, the need for an ice lolly when it’s a bit hot, adidas apply a playful approach to the conventional double-sided formula. Working the classic trefoil logo into a vibrant tropical island scene to the front, the t-shirt employs a, ‘juicy mix icecream’ print emblazoned to the back.

Stussy T-Shirt

Stussy

Of course, it wouldn’t be right to do a rundown of some of our favourite printed bits without mentioning Stussy. With arguably one of the most recognised logos in the streetwear game and an impressive resume serving up some of the best in graphic-heavy garments it doesn’t come as any surprise that they found their way onto the guest list. This particular specimen displays the aforementioned script callout to the front with a circular emblem print to the back for expected levels of effortless appeal.

Comme des Garcons T-Shirt

Comme des Garcons

Brandishing a piquant yellow base this t-shirt from Comme des Garcons is a must have for the more minimally minded among us. With a completely clean front and accompanying logo back print, the t-shirt is crafted from a slight stretch material for bonus comfort points.

Ralph Lauren T-Shirt

Ralph Lauren

Retaining a staunch preppy swagger with an added helping of patriotic flair the best dressed bear in fashion returns just in time for the hot weather. Cut in a custom slim fit associated with the New York based brand, the t-shirt is topped off with some tasteful branding and a contrasting ribbed neckline.

DSquared2 T-Shirt

DSquared2

For those looking for a more high-end addition to their summer shirting Canadian born twins Dan and Dean canten of DSquared2 have got you covered. Put together with fit and quality in mind the t-shirt sees the world-renowned logo reworked into a contemporary overlapped design that takes centre stage for an unmistakable finish.

adidas x Raf Simons Ozweego Trainers

The adidas x Raf Simons Ozweego Returns

The adidas x Raf Simons Ozweego, one of the most beloved and well recognised silhouettes born out of the esteemed Belgian fashion designers work with the German sportswear company, a trend-setting powerhouse and one of the few somewhat innocuous silhouettes, alongside the Stan Smith and Response, fortunate enough to be plucked from the adidas archives for a generous dose of collaborative TLC. Adding an expectantly elevated touch to the ‘90s original, the Ozweego found itself at the forefront of the pairings debut collection and quickly set to work tearing the low top sneaker rule book of the time cover to cover.

adidas x Raf Simons Ozweego Sneakers

With ‘ugly sneakers’ now seen as an established trend, with the likes of Balenciaga, Maison Margiela and countless other designers throwing their hat into the proverbial ring, the same can’t quite be said for 2013 when the Ozweego, with its multilayered frame, bulky exaggerated uppers and chunky midsole took its first tentative step into the limelight.

adidas x Raf Simons Ozweego Trainers

Like much of the Belgian designers work, the trainers starkly contrasted the typical styling found at the time but through their acceptance into popular culture, most notably with A$AP Rocky’s ‘please Don’t Touch My Raf’, and sightings on the feet of countless celebrities they slowly but surely became mainstays in rotations across the world, setting the wheels in motion for not only the larger than life footwear seen pounding modern day pavements but the degradation of the walls which stood between high-end fashion and streetwear.

adidas x Raf Simons Ozweego New Releases

Now, after a brief foray into a spot of 3D mapping and some optical illusion inducing French painting techniques earlier in the year, adidas and Raf Simons once again turn their attention to the forefather of chunky sneakers adding a fresh lick of paint to a now undeniable cult classic.

Taking influence from the ‘Bunny Boot’ a type of footwear worn by the American armed forces to combat the harsh conditions found in Alaska, the adidas x Raf Simons Ozweego remains largely unchanged, utilising the same oversized panelled design and sculpted midsole combination that has etched its name among the very best in gargantuan proportioned kicks.

adidas x Raf Simons Ozweego Metallic Pack

Up top the trainers take a more subdued approach than some of the Ozweego’s past iterations, boasting a supple premium leather construction and swapping out some of the more out there features, such as translucent plastic inserts and entirely cut out sections, for clean coatings of monochromatic colouring.

adidas x Raf Simons Ozweego
Perhaps one of the most notable features, and where things begin to take a more left field approach, is below where a mirrored TPU film coats the trainers from mid-section down, playing with proportions and hailing back to the ‘70s glam rock influences found embedded throughout the designers SS19 offering.

adidas x Raf Simons Ozweego Footwear

With fads changing like the wind, the pressures of hype and a seemingly unlimited supply of styles waiting in the wings for their chance at the top spot, we think it’s fair to say that the footwear landscape has never been so fiercely contested. Which is why, 6 years on from its original release, the fact that the Ozweego still remains firmly positioned amongst the best of the best is not only a testament to the shoe itself but the great minds responsible for its creation.

The adidas x Raf Simons Ozweego is available both in store and online at Aphrodite1994 on the 23/05/19.

adidas x Missoni: Celebrating an Athletic Legacy

Since its inception in 1958, Missoni has worked its way up the ranks to become a globally-recognised luxury brand. Inspired by founder Ottavio Missoni‘s paintings, the brand’s signature is the intricate, boldly-coloured woven patterns it uses in its textiles. Zig-zags, checks and stripes all feature prominently, in a dazzling array of colours from muted earth tones to bright jewel shades. Missoni’s textile work has even been recognised as having artistic merit, having been featured in exhibitions all over the world.

adidas x Missoni Collection 2019

adidas, by contrast, is a leading name in both sportswear and lifestyle clothing, creating countless innovations for athletes in its lifespan. At first glance, the two brands couldn’t be more different, which makes the upcoming adidas x Missoni collaboration seem like a bit of an odd one. But looking a little closer reveals that the Italian textile artists and the German sportswear kings have more in common than first thought.

adidas Missoni Ultraboost Trainers 2019

Prior to founding his namesake brand, Ottavio Missoni was an accomplished hurdler, even representing Italy in the 1948 Olympic Games. This led to his first foray into the clothing industry, where he and teammate Giorgio Oberweder invented a range of lightweight wool tracksuits. The suits were so effective that they were adopted by the entire Italian Olympic team, and pushed Ottavio — along with his wife, Rosita — to start experimenting with different methods of fabric weaving. This led to the first Missoni-branded goods being available in 1958, after which the Missonis experienced global demand for their unique vision. Widely credited with being one of the original labels to bring Italian ready-to-wear to the world, Missoni became known as pioneers of the fusion of sportswear and tailoring, predating the athleisure trend by several decades.

adidas Running x Missoni Collection SS19

Now, adidas have teamed with Missoni to bring Ottavio’s original concept up to date for the modern era. Leveraging both brands’ expertise to the fullest, the adidas x Missoni apparel is crafted from a lightweight wool blend that utilises adidas’ Primeknit technology along with trademark Missoni textile patterns and colours. This lends the pieces both the flexibility and moisture-wicking properties of performance athletic gear and bold, eye-catching Missoni signature style in both multicoloured and monochrome varieties.

adidas x Missoni Ultraboost Details

Finishing off the collection is a trio of adidas x Missoni Ultraboost Clima trainers. The perfect choice for this collaboration, the Ultraboost straddles the performance and lifestyle categories with ease. This edition sees the traditional Primeknit uppers upgraded with Missoni-designed patterns for a hit of luxury appeal, while each boasts a contrasting medial lace panel, delivering a typically idiosyncratic Missoni finish. The rest of the shoe remains the same, riding atop a precision-tuned Boost sole unit with embedded Torsion technology, ensuring the collection’s performance characteristics remain uncompromised. Whether you’re a Missoni fan, an adidas collector or just want to flex at the gym in style, the adidas x Missoni collection is truly unmissable.

The adidas x Missoni apparel and footwear collections will be available in-store and online on the 25th of April from Aphrodite Clothing. As always, numbers are strictly limited, so make sure not to sleep if you want to secure your favourite pieces.

adidas By Raf Simons Trompe-l’oeil Collection

adidas By Raf Simons Trompe-l’oeil Collection

Since 2013 adidas and esteemed Belgian fashion designer Raf Simons have been hellbent on pushing the boundaries when it comes to both classic and contemporary footwear silhouettes.Whether it’s collaborating on the trend-setting, fore father of chunky sneakers Ozweego or infusing the worlds of runway and sportswear with stylistic reinvention, the pair have done so with an emphasis on preserving the intrinsic qualities of each shoe they turn their attention to, keeping unique characteristics and historical relevancy high on the agenda amid a multi influenced design process. Now, as they get set to roll out the latest amalgamation of their combined endeavours in the form of the adidas By Raf Simons Trompe-l’oeil collectionit seems not much has changed when it comes to the pairings defined sensibilities and sharp conceptual direction.

adidas By Raf Simons L.A. Trainers

adidas By Raf Simons Micro Pacer

No stranger to a Stan Smith, Raf Simons not only has a soft spot for the unmistakable tennis shoe, having been sighted donning them for himself on numerous occasions, but has utilised the shoe to great effect as part of his debut collaborative line with the German sportswear giant, updating the sneaker with a plethora of bold colours and the now iconic perforated R to the lateral side. Choosing once again to focus their attention toward that of the understated ‘70s classic this latest evolutionary step in the partnerships creative venture sees not only the adilette sliders brought along for the ride several but several archival styles including the Micropacer, Torsion Conquest Super, Peach Tree, Samba and the L.A. Trainer, transported back into modern day rotations through the use of an innovative application and unconventional finish.

adidas By Raf Simons Peach Tree

adidas By Raf Simons Samba

Deriving its name from the French painting technique meaning ‘to deceive the eye’ the collection plays with perceptions through the use of realistic photography, 3D modelling and precise printing, capturing each vintage trainer down to the finest detail before subsequently blanketing them across both a Stan Smith and adilette canvas. Blending together past, present and future the clean lines and minimal nature of each chosen model only seeks to enhance the deceptive approach, allowing distinguishing features and authentic worn in markings – such as stains and exposed glue – to be showcased to full optical illusion inducing effect.

The result is a product that both blends cross generational styles and functional purpose whilst simultaneously paying homage to adidas’ rich history of iconic classics in a way only achievable by a collaboration of this magnitude.

adidas By Raf Simons Torsion Conquest Super

The adidas by Raf Simons Trompe-l’oeil collection launches both online and in store at Aphrodite on the 12th of April at 9:00am with the RS adilettes launching on the 17th of May.

adidas Originals Taps Pop Artist Keiichi Tanaami for Apparel Collection

adidas is no stranger to collaborations — after all, they changed the game with their Run-DMC co-sign back in the 80s — but lately they’ve been moving away from musicians and sports stars to tap into ideas from other disciplines, including modern artist Daniel Arsham, pro skater and illustrator Mark ‘Gonz’ Gonzales, and even Transport for London, the operators of the London Underground tube system. Continuing this curative approach to collaboration, this season the Herzogenaurach brand introduce their ‘Gallery Series’ of artist collabs from across the globe, with the first stop in Japan with pop artist Keiichi Tanaami.

adidas Hoodie Designed by Keiichi TanaamiRear View of adidas Tanaami Hoodie

Born in 1936 as the son of a Tokyo textile worker, Tanaami grew up in the aftermath of World War II, and translates a lot of his experiences into his psychedelic work, mixing bright American-influenced pop imagery with nightmarish monsters and mutations of familiar iconography. As a contemporary of Andy Warhol, Tanaami holds an eye for both artistic and commercial expressions, so the esteemed artist’s partnership with such a large entity as adidas makes perfect sense. The Three Stripes commissioned the collection alongside a gallery show at Tokyo’s NANZUKA, which showcased the artist’s expertise in multiple media, from large-format paintings to sculpture, all depicting the signature Trefoil logo in different interpretations and contexts.

The capsule collection of apparel – “wearable art”, as Tanaami puts it – continues in a similar vein, taking familiar adidas pieces and splicing them with Tanaami’s garish and discomforting characters, inserting them into the Trefoil to uncanny effect. Keeping the overall colour palette limited to black and white makes Tanaami’s creations stand out even more on pieces like the rugby shirt and classic hoodie, while keeping them safely in wearable territory.

A collaboration in the truest sense of the word, the Keiichi Tanaami for adidas Originals collection will be available instore and online from the 21st of March.

adidas Bring Acidic Colours to the Raf Simons Detroit Runner

From Americana to anarcho-punk, legendary designer and polymath Raf Simons holds a host of influences in his work, whether for his own fashion line or in his long-running collaboration with adidas. This season, Simons draws on the aesthetics of 70s glam rock for the newest iteration of the adidas by Raf Simons Detroit Runner, drenching the silhouette in unexpected colour combinations.

adidas Raf Simons Detroit Runner Sneakers 2019adidas Raf Simons Detroit Runner Details

Already steeped in glam-rock’s futurist aesthetic, the Detroit Runner is elevated this season with striking colour-ups that are a stark departure from the tonal approach of previous seasons. One pair is swathed in the acidic colour palette of the era, with a black base offset by bold red and lime green to the futuristic sole unit, while the other is more sober, coming in a monochrome make-up. Both pairs are completed with the designer’s signature RS lettering to the canvas uppers, this time offered in a mirrored finish for an extra 70s touch.

adidas Originals SC Premiere Trainers

adidas Originals Deliver a Modern Classic with the SC Premiere

No strangers to the tennis court, some of adidas‘ most iconic trainers have risen from the sport, chiefly the oft-imitated Stan Smith and Rod Laver signature models, while more recent models like the Continental 80 have paid tribute to more obscure kicks. Now the Brand with the 3 Stripes has returned to the clay with their latest lifestyle silhouette, the adidas SC Premiere, otherwise known as the Super Court.

adidas Originals SC Premiere Trainers

Landing somewhere between the aforementioned Rod Laver and Continental models, the SC Premiere boasts a luxuriously soft leather upper with a layered construction reminiscent of the wildly popular Reebok Club C, lifted with the addition of suede and nubuck underlays for an extra textural dimension, while underfoot there’s a perfectly-proportioned rubber sole unit – neither too chunky nor too low profile, rendered in a slightly off-white shade for a subtle contrast. Finally, in keeping with the sneaker’s less-is-more approach, branding is kept to a minimum, with a Super-series inspired cut-out window to the lateral sides.

adidas Originals SC Premiere Sneakers

With quality construction, a bang on-trend silhouette and a very reasonable price, we think the adidas Originals SC Premiere could be the early hit of the Spring. Get your pair instore and online at Aphrodite Clothing now.
