Nike Air Max Tailwind IV: The ’90s Favourite Returns

The ‘90s called, they want their shoes back.

Brimming with nostalgia, the Nike Air Max Tailwind IV continues to reap the rewards of its resurgence this season as the Swoosh debuts yet another new colourway to the sneaker circuit’s prying eyes.

Fresh on the heels of its 20th anniversary, this ‘99 remake is harnessing all the attention it can get after slipping off the radar back in the early noughties. But it seems a few years off the grid has done the design some good. Like any other industry, the footwear realm is subject to change; trend’s come and go, fashion’s fade, but with the current state of the sneaker zeitgeist, Nike’s Air Max Tailwind IV couldn’t feel more relevant.

Finding no problem with carving its place in the millennial air of today, the trainer effortlessly addresses the tastemakers of 2019 with its fierce triple-black colourway. Furthermore, the Swoosh silhouette is anything but refined – it’s shaped with a bulbous anatomy, which not only makes it a certain contender of the Air Max dynasty, but also a compatible extension to the industry’s bigger picture. For a few years now, the scene has been dominated by chunky footwear formulas, making this design a welcomed addition to the current status quo.

Nike Air Max Tailwind Triple Black Air Max Tailwind IV Triple Black

Build wise, it goes without saying that the trainer is a force to be reckoned with. Backed by the science of the Swoosh, the Air Max Tailwind IV rides upon Max Air technology for the smoothest step into the city, teamed alongside flex grooves in its outsole which move and bend meticulously with your foot, while bolstering traction on the ground. The injection of BRS 1000 Carbon Rubber promises protection in even the most vulnerable areas, shielding the shoe from abrasion and other fatal damage that may potentially occur.

Above ship, the upper is articulated with ripple-like accents across its side panels, coupled with tonal materials that subtly pinpoint places of focus – such as the shoe’s toe and heel. Other details includes stealthy Swoosh branding and a full Air Max lacing system.

Nike Air Max 200: The Next Evolution

The Nike Air Max 200 joins the swoosh clad ranks

When one of the first trainers you ever made is selling for world-record breaking amounts we think it’s a pretty good indication that you know a thing or two when it comes to putting together some not too shabby footwear. Of course, it’s not like we needed anymore evidence from Nike especially not with their verging on intimidating lineup of culturally embedded sneaker silhouettes that include timeless classics such as the Air Max 1, 180, 95 and so forth. So, in the interest of not dwelling on the past too much or rehashing what is by now common knowledge amongst the sneaker orientated, we’d like to introduce you to the next step in Nike’s unrelenting journey to take air infused midsoles to their very limits.

Nike Air Max 200 Trainers

Known as the Nike Air Max 200 this newest addition to the Air Max family combines some of the best bits from past and present Nike models with a hearty dose of new-wave advancement, resulting in a silhouette that is not only unique in its own right but feels wholly familiar at the same time. With uppers consisting primarily of mesh, that contours to the foot for improved breathability and comfort, the trainer boasts additional overlays to reinforce the foot and a TPU frame to keep things lightweight. Retaining a more streamlined, sleeker and sport-inspired appearance, the Nike Air Max 200 utilises a contrasting patterned-design with hits of yellow, green and red to the heel and sides for a generous helping of visual depth.

Below the trainers re-imagines the classic tubular technology sporting Nike’s biggest air unit to date alongside soft cushlon foam and a rubber outsole for exceptional levels of support, grip and return with a heel pull tab, padded tongue and embroidered branding bringing things to a tasteful, street-ready close. The Nike Air Max 200 launches both online and in store 01/08/19.

Nike Air Max2 Light: Retro Runner Goodness

The Nike Air Max2 Light Returns For Spring Summer 2019

The Nike Air Max2 Light has found its way through our doors bringing with it impressive levels of vintage athletic appeal and of course some similarly gob smacking mechanics below. Looking for your next pair of hot weather kicks? Look no further.

Nike Air Max2 Light

From head to toe denim ensembles and frosted tips to the birth of the internet in America and successful attempts at cloning a sheep named Dolly, there is no denying that the ‘90s was a wild time not only for fashion, but for society in general. With significant events cropping up left, right and centre, fashion trends spinning out of control and genetically engineered barnyard animals to contest with Nike had to do something drastic to stay out in front and build upon the momentum they had created with the launch of the now legendary Air Max 1 in 1987.

Cue what could arguably be seen as the great glory days for the Beaverton born sportswear company as they set to work putting in place the foundations from which their footwear empire still stands to this day, releasing instant classic after instant classic and kicking things up a notch when it came to gas injected midsoles. Booting things off with the Air Max 90 the era lays claim to the crème de la crème of exposed air unit silhouettes boasting a fear-inducing numerical line-up that consists of heavy-hitters such as the Air max 95, Air Max 180, the 93, 97, 98 and of course the Nike Air Max2 Light.

Nike Air Max2 Light

Unleashed to the world in 1994 the Nike Air Max2 Light was the next iteration in Nike’s Light line-up which thanks to a clever composition of less weighty materials provided, as the name suggests, a much more lightweight frame when compared to its fellow air max brethren. Couple this with an arsenal of the latest fine-tuned advancements at it’s disposal and some purposeful adjustments to the core fundamentals of the now tried and tested air max technology and it’s easy to see why the trainer was an instant success.

In a move which could be seen as responsible for pioneering future tech, such as Tuned Air, and in an answer to the increasing demand for more responsive running footwear the Nike Air Max2 Light split its air infused midsole into different compartments, alternating the amount of pressure in each to reach new levels of underfoot support and performance enhancing ingenuity. But, aside from the abundance of complexities found at ground level, perhaps what made the Nike Air Max2 Light such a fan favourite was its multi-panelled uppers and robustly shaped dimensions which took on its array of bold colours with ease.

Nike Air Max2 Light

Returning just in time for summer with the addition of some cuhslon foam and a fresh lick of OG coloured paint, the Nike Air Max2 Light sticks to its original winning formula boasting lashings of contrasting colour blocked red mesh and suede uppers against a clean white leather base. Staying grounded with hits of black to the side swoosh and outsole the trainer is finished with retro branding to the tongue, subdued grey accents to the heel and a green tinged air unit.

Unlike many of the trends from the ‘90s most of us would all rather forget, this is one old school runner we are more than happy to see back in modern day rotations. The Nike Air Max2 Light is available online and in store at Aphrodite now.

All You Need Is Love… And The Nike Air Max Tailwind

Keeping things casual with the inclusion of the timeless Nike Air Max Tailwind runners on foot, this staff selection comes from non-other than our very own store assistant Johnathon Collins. Known fondly round these parts as Jonny, he’s as good at his job as he is matching the colour of his socks to his coat and boasts a refined palette for the finer things in life such as a sturdy pair of selvage denim, a crisp white Oxford and some of the most far-out tunes imaginable pressed into vinyl shaped discs.

Nike Air Max Tailwind

Putting to work some versatile, brand-spanning layering Jonny manages to not only mould together a collection of fan favourites like Stutterheim, Edwin, Andersons BeltsRalph Lauren and Albam but, effortlessly blend contemporary sensibilities with classic silhouettes for a look that’s suitable come rain, shine or anywhere in between.

For a selection of this magnitude, it’s only right that we hear from the man himself…

For the outfit, I decided to choose everything that is an essential in my wardrobe. Living in the North of England you never know when it’s going to rain so I went for the Stutterheim raincoat for a light piece of outerwear that’s easy to layer under. In this case I paired it with a white oxford shirt as I think they not only dress things up but you can wear them with anything, and I seem to have about 3 in my wardrobe. I decided to go for some Edwin selvage denim jeans when it came to legwear as I wore a pair in over the winter and I love the way they’re looking even just after a few months. The yellow Albam socks matched the colour of the raincoat whilst the Nike Tailwind trainers are a classic. As for the records, The War on Drugs album is the first ever bit of vinyl I bought and I was gifted The Beatles album for Christmas which I’ve been enjoying lately.

So, if you’re looking for some very nice clothes freshly stamped with the Jonny seal of approval you can find them now (minus the tunes) both in store and online.

The Future Is Now: Nike Air Max 270

Since its release around this time last year, the Nike Air Max 270 has earned itself quite the reputation. Having been dressed in countless colour combinations, topped sales charts and took on a variety of materials and fabrics, the trainers mark the coming of a new generation of Air Max that’s spearheaded by the unrelenting advancements in on foot-technology and got the old-timers shaking in their pressurised air repositories. Backed up by the likes of the VaporMax and hungry for its spot in the limelight the 270 has not only already earned its spot in the upper echelons of the Air Max ranks but provided the inspirational base material for fellow young guns, such as the 720 and the 270s more outdoorsy sibling, the Bowfin, to follow in its footsteps.

Nike Air Max 270

But, we aren’t here to talk about the Bowfin or the 720, we’re here to tell you about this very nice pair of 270s set to come through our doors very, very soon. Boasting Nike’s biggest air unit to date, this iteration of the instant classic showcases an understated black colourway that acts as the perfect contrasting base layer to amplify the cool blues and sharp whites. Born out of a mish-mash of some of the best elements found evident both in the Air Max 180 and 93, the trainer comes with a knit upper which hugs the shape of the foot and utilises hits of mesh and solid panelling to not only create a streamlined silhouette but retain structure and airflow.

An asymmetrical lacing system helps to enhance the supportive qualities above whilst a dual-density foam sole and aforementioned air unit tucked neatly under the heel give in-step cushioning from below. Finished with garnishes of tasteful branding to the tongue, sides and pull tab, the trainer captures that highly in demand, ultra-technical sporty aesthetic we all can’t seem to get enough of.

January Sneakers New Arrivals

January Top Picks – Sneaker Edition

By now, the novelty of the festive season is probably just wearing off; the weather is bleak, payday seems to be getting further and further away and work days inexplicably last longer than they seemed to pre-Christmas.

We’re with you, so to cheer you (and ourselves) up, we’ve decided to do a little round up of our favourite new sneakers that have already dropped for the SS19 season – because we love sneakers and these ones are part of the Summer season, which at this point feels like a distant memory.
adidas
First off, we go to the old classic, adidas. adidas have clearly been hard at work for this season as we have already had a plethora of sleek new silhouettes and colourways land for Spring/Summer 2019, with much more to come.

We’ll start with the brand-spanking new Yung-1’s. Last year’s chunky silhouette has been carried through to 2019, this time paired with a muted, pale grey colourway that is reminiscent of the Yeezy Salt collection that graced our eyeballs (and feet, if you’re lucky) late last year.

The Yung-1’s have been bold in their colourways in the past, however this time adidas have cleverly used contrasting textures and tonal colour blocking to ensure that the shoe remains bold yet understated. Paired with the adidas Torsion support outsole, the Yung-1 is the dad-shoe we all need in our lives.

adidas Originals Yung 1

Nike
It could be said that the sporting giant has, in the past, been somewhat overshadowed by adidas’ prowess within the sneaker market. However with their Virgil Abloh Off White collaborations selling out across the world, and a bunch of brave new silhouettes dropping in 2018, it’s obvious that Nike aren’t slowing down any time soon.

One silhouette that was much-talked about in the sneaker world, was the Air Max 270 Bowfin. Joining the infamous Air Max tribe (and surviving), is not an easy task. The first Bowfin was released early last year and after a few months to gain momentum on the sneaker scene, it has gone from strength to strength with a number of bright colourways now available.

Nike 270 Bowfin TrainersThe most recent drop is that of a Pumice and Cinder (or orange and purple for us mere mortals) colourway. Sitting upon Nike’s biggest air ‘bubble’ sole to date, the upper features a sock like design adorned in contrasting textiles and patterns making this trainer anything but subtle. Overall, the Bowfin adds bright but by no means garish colour to everyone’s favourite chunky silhouette, ultimately cementing its place in the Nike Air Max hall of fame.

Y3

Ah, Y3. Our favourite East-Asian export never fails to disappoint with their avant-garde styles and futuristic designs that push fashion to its science-fiction limits. We’ve been spoiled for the SS19 season with a number of new styles dropping into our laps, however we have to showcase our favourite; the Harigane II.

Y-3 Harigane II Sneakers

The silhouette first made an appearance last year, however Yohji has refreshed the shoe for an impactful New Year drop. Keeping the sculpture-like geometric sole and sharp shark-tooth outsole from last year’s style, the Hargiane II has been given a sleek upgrade with a lightweight Primeknit upper.  Topstitching and hand-stitched zigzag detailing give the Harigane II a premium quality that is simply a given when purchasing a pair of Y3 trainers.

Past, Present and Future: Nike Air Max 270 Bowfin

It’s hard to compete for the top spot on the Air Max pedestal, especially when the swoosh marketplace has been dominated for years by countless classics such as the 90, 95, 97 and many more, and that’s without mentioning the consistent stream of innovative models ready and waiting in the wings for their shot at the big time – take for example the recent development of the Vapormax and Flyknit. Well, Nike isn’t one to back down from a challenge as they continued on their mission to push the boundaries of what is possible when it comes to what we wear on our feet with the release of the Nike Air Max 270 Bowfin earlier in the year. With a few months out of the starting blocks and some time to stretch its metaphorical legs, the Bowfin returns to Aphrodite in a brand new orange and purple coat of armour, bringing with it the same signature complexities with a plethora of nostalgic ACG qualities.

Nike Air Max 270 Bowfin

Named after a fish that can breathe both in water and on land, the Nike Air Max 270 Bowfin embodies Nike’s dedication to making every step as good as the last, taking the brand’s 270 silhouette and piecing it together with a utilitarian design that combines both classic elements of trail shoes and water moccasins with buckets of ’90s heritage styling. Whilst we can’t promise you the same fish-like amphibious qualities, we can promise you some of the very best technical features guaranteed to have you pounding the pavement with unparalleled comfort and performance. Featuring a sock-like design atop Nike’s biggest air unit to date, the trainer boasts impressive levels of functionality with a multi textile upper construction consisting of an assortment of mesh and ripstop applications, an impact-absorbing foam midsole with rugged trail-inspired outer grip and a webbed lace fastening in place of the traditional eyelet design complete with lace tie cord. Finished with some subtle tonal embroidered Nike ticks and indented detailing the trainer, besides all of the intelligent characteristics and in-depth know-how, is also very easy on the eye with a chunky silhouette which for those of us with our fingers on the fashion pulse may know, is a big two thumbs up when it comes to bang on trend styling.

Nike Air Max 270 Bowfin Available Now

When you look at the usual suspects consistently leading the Air Max pack the same words and phrases pop up time and time again. Ahead of their time, forward-thinking, stylish, performance-enhancing the list goes on. If these are the elements which have solidified these trainers as the true Nike greats then it could be time to move over and make some room as one more may be here to stay. The Nike Air Max 270 Bowfin is available both online and in-store now here.

Nike Brings ACG Back to the Future with the Air Max 270 Bowfin

Since its debut at the beginning of the year, Nike’s Air 270 technology – the latest iteration of the Oregon giants’ signature Air Max cushioning – has proven a roaring success among collectors and consumers alike. The tallest Air unit to date, not only is it comfortable and responsive but has a distinctively aggressive look that perfectly suits the streets. Now with the wet and windy weather approaching, Nike hasrepurposed the technology for their latest sneaker silhouette, the outdoor-throwback Air Max 270 Bowfin.

Named for a species of fish that can breathe both in and out of the water, the Air Max 270 Bowfin taps into the utilitarian spirit of Nike’s fan-favourite ACG (All Conditions Gear) line from the 90s. Taking elements of both trail running shoes and water moccasins, the shoe boasts a bootie-fit neoprene upper with abrasion-resistant overlays, punctuated with woven zig-zag tape lacing loops that call to mind classic ACG styles like the Air Humara. All this sits atop a multi-density midsole that rocks that oversized 270 Air unit to the heel for a futuristic feel, coupled with a cleated rubber outsole tread for some actual rugged utility for the rain-slicked streets.

The stretchy, padded upper paired with the unique sole tooling make the Bowfin supremely comfortable with a distinctive retro-futuristic look that sits perfectly with today’s street vibe. Arriving in both Phantom/Photo Blue and University Red/Light Zitron colourways, the Nike Air Max 270 is the ideal pick if you’re after a versatile trainer with shed loads of brash 90s outdoor appeal.

The Nike Air Max 270 Bowfin in Phantom/Photo Blue is available now, with the University Red/Light Zitron colourway launching at 08.00GMT on the 11th of October.
