Happy 22nd Birthday Aphrodite!

Today marks 22 years since Aphrodite opened its doors to Sunderland. On September 8 1994, brothers Andrew and Duncan McKenzie opened Aphrodite with the intention to support their love for contemporary fashion.

Fast forward 22 years and our independent store has dynamically expanded, with the latest refurbishment and extension revealed in 2014 as part of our 20th anniversary celebrations. We also launched our website www.aphrodite1994.com in 2007, presenting our store to a worldwide audience who have a passion for style.

We proudly stock a range of premium designer brands such as adidas Originals, Stone Island, Moncler, Fred Perry and Nike to name a few. Over the years we have gained a loyal customer base, who we’d like to say a huge thank you to for continuing to support and shop with us over the years.

New Website Launch

We are pleased to announce that we will be launching our brand new website on Wednesday 10^th February 2016. During this time the site will be down for a few hours while the little people in the computer do their magic and bring the new site live to you.

Once launched, you may notice the overall feel of the website has slightly changed, with a subtle re-brand giving a more streamlined clean appearance throughout. The logo has been changed to lower case for a softer friendlier feel and is now aligned with our physical store’s signage, whilst the dark grey font keeps the company’s masculine identity flowing.

The homepage is the most visually transformed page on the whole website with added imagery for a more aesthetically pleasing high impact first impression. The advanced technical aspects of the website make this a higher performing faster site you a smoother run throughout the Aphrodite shopping experience which includes a faster, clearer checkout process.

Other key noticeable changes have been made to the category pages, where again clean lines and simple design have changed the page into an easy to follow site. A monochrome colourway has also been used throughout for a less cluttered minimalist design, drawing inspiration from Scandinavian design – simplicity and functionality.

Expected Downtime
Please be aware that our site is planned to be down for a few hours from 7.30am on Wednesday 10 February 2016 as our developers launch the new website. From 7.30am will not be able to log into your account, browse or place orders on the website or place over telephone during this time.

Orders placed after 3pm on Thursday 9th February 2016, will not necessarily have Next Working Day delivery, so if it is needed urgently have your order in before 3pm to avoid disappointment.

Password Reset
After the new website has launched, all of our customers will need to reset their passwords that is if you wish to login and continue using your account. To proceed with this reset, simply follow this password reset link where you will be asked to enter your email address that the account is held under.

The sale has now started online and in our busy Sunderland store, featuring the best-selling brands from this season. If you’re in the North East make sure you pop in our store and check out the sale for yourself. You can also view it online here.

With Christmas Day less than a week away, our store in Sunderland will be open for late night shoppers throughout the run up to the big day. For the week commencing 21 December 2015, please note the following opening hours if you are planning to call into the town centre and shop at Aphrodite.

Monday 21 December: 9am – 8pm
Tuesday 22 December: 9am – 8pm
Wednesday 23 December: 9am – 8pm
Thursday 24 December: 9am – 5pm
Friday 25 December: Closed
Saturday 26 December: 9am – 5.30pm
Sunday 27 December: 10am – 5pm

Please note, our online office will still operate between the hours of 9am – 5.30pm throughout this period for any telephone or email enquiries.

Aphrodite turns 21

Today is a milestone for Aphrodite, as we turn the big 21. Last year we celebrated 20 years of business in Sunderland by collaborating with brands such as Barbour, Oliver Spencer and Paul Smith and launching our brand new shop fit with an in store party.

Aphrodite was formed in 1994 by brothers Andrew and Duncan McKenzie, with the ambition and drive to support their enthusiasm for contemporary fashion and designer menswear. Fast forward 20 years and we have grown from strength to strength, with a successful store and website with over fifty designer menswear brands on our shelves.

We are always grateful for our loyal customer base both in store and online which has made the whole experience even more special. If you’re in the Sunderland area, make sure to pay us a visit where you will be greeted by our polite and friendly staff who are always happy to help.

Monochrome Lookbook

For this weeks Sunday Lookbook we have mixed things up a little bit, instead of focusing solely on a brand, we have taken the best of our black and white pieces for a truly unique monochrome focused lookbook. Black and white has been one of the classic colour combinations for a sharp up market look for many over the years.

This season, black and white has bounced back, trying to bring a new youthful look while mixing it with the same sophisticated feel as before, and as a result many have been branding black and white as the new ‘black’. Weather it be graphic prints, logical stripes and grids or plain pieces, black and white is bang on trend this season, and can be styled on anyone, no matter what your taste or character. Trends come and go in fashion, but black and white has stood the test of time and will always have place in the fashion scene.
