How To Style A Pair of Birkenstock Sandals
Who Are Birkenstock? A Brief Introduction
Initially developed to improve the orthopaedic health of their customers, Birkenstock sandals have come a long way since being founded over two centuries ago and now stand proudly atop the footwear heap.
A phenomenon among the utility and style-conscious alike, the Birkenstock Sandal’s longevity stands in stark contrast to the many consumer trends that have come and gone since their inception, but even to this day, with their place as a key heritage brand cemented, some find it a challenge to style their signature sandal models. But no stress, we’ve got you covered with some ideas of how to rock a pair of clogs or sandals on any occasion.
Look #1 – ARIZONA
Firstly, we have to start with the iconic Birkenstock Arizona Sandal. This open-toe, two-strapped icon needs no introduction and as such is a go-to for warm-weather moments.
Easy to throw on, we’d recommend pairing the Soft Foot Bed – SFB – Arizona Sandal in Taupe with another neutral hit from the Patagonia Hemp Volley Shorts in Grey. Up top, go classic with a pocket tee, and we’d recommend going a little darker with the midweight Nudie Jeans Leffe Pocket Tee in Racing Green. Finally, just to be safe, the orange colourway in the Comme Des Garcons PLAY x K-Way Hooded Zip Jacket will give you ample protection from the breeze without weighing you down with its light cotton, packable nylon construction.
Look #2 – BOSTON
We’d be remiss to leave out the newest superstar on the German outfit’s roster, the Birkenstock Boston. Mule? Sandal? Clog? Either way, they’re a cosy winner for any season. The Birkenstock Boston SFB concealed toe, mary-jane style strap and buckle, along with the classic cork sole provide comfort and style inside and out. You can rock these with any outfit, day or night, from co-ord sweats hanging at home to carpenter pants, tee and jacket for a casual night out.
If we had our way though we’d start with the Boston Clog Sandal in Black Suede on feet. Pair these with the Folk Assembly Pants in their Mist colourway for a relaxed, casual look on the bottom half – not forgetting some socks to keep it cosy. To finish, up top we’d opt for a classic pairing of tee and overshirt. The Stone Island Black Overshirt layered over a classic Carhartt WIP pocket tee in Smoke Green more than fits the bill.
Regardless of all the fanfare and praise the brand has received over the years, from hippies rocking the same pair of Arizona’s for decades, to the hipster chef wearing their stained, dropping-to-bits Boston Clog like a badge of honour, what we can say for certain is that Birkenstocks Sandals are not going away any time soon, and we for one are glad.
