Fred Perry Bradley Wiggins Collection

His trademark sideburns and phenomenal sporting success over the past few years have made his face as recognisable as many Premiership footballers or famous celebrities.  Bradley Wiggins has become a household name through his recent success at the 2012 Olympics, Tour De France and most recently, Sports Personality Of The Year.  His quirky modernist appearance sets him apart from his sporting peers when they are being interviewed and to a degree this makes him more marketable.  Fred Perry have now teamed up with Wiggins to collaborate on a clothing range which quite simply reflects the personality of the cyclist.

The man himself has been a supporter of the brand for years and is often seen sporting a Fred Perry polo or track top.  His sense of style was further highlighted at the Sports Personality of the Year Awards when he wore an unconventional double breasted velvet suit with brass buttons by Soho tailor Mark Powell.  Yes it was a suit that most people might not have dared to wear at an awards ceremony but it didn’t look out of place on Wiggins.

The Fred Perry Bradley Wiggins collection is a collaboration which is as eagerly anticipated by the general public than any other of recent time.  Scheduled to ship fully in March the collaboration had to follow a brief which was to create a clothing range which reflected his lifestyle and personality.  Technical sportswear was not on the agenda but rather to incorporate cycling details into fashion pieces which would be ideal for wearing to the pub or out and about town.  Extended hems, zip-up collars and rear patch pockets were all features highlighted for use on the garments.  His achievements for his country are reflected with the GB red, white and blue signature colours often used for trims or tips on garments.

Fred Perry Polo ShirtsSignature pieces from the collection include a knitted zip neck short sleeved cycling shirt, a panelled cycling shirt and a vintage track jacket which evokes memories of cycling greats such as Reg Harris and Tommy Simpson.  Two styles of footwear in both suede and leather have been produced in various colours as well as a holdall and messenger bag.Fred Perry

It may well turn out that these garments turn out to be collector’s pieces for fans of both the brand and Bradley Wiggins.  The collaboration pieces will provide a talking point between you and your friends and will gain envious glances from the fashion conscious males that frequent the same watering holes out and about town.

Due to ship in early March, we have the collection available for pre-order on the website right now.  The Harrington jacket which has been released earlier than the other pieces arrived last week but sold out in a matter of days.  We are currently trying to obtain some more from the supplier.  If this is an indication of how popular the collaboration is going to be, it looks like Fred Perry have found a golden nugget in the form of one of Britains great sporting heroes.
