Carhartt’s Work in Progress range is a fusion of the brand’s origins in rugged workwear, and their contemporary take on fashion. So it’s a no-brainer that they have taken their approach to jeans. Oozing with style, the Carhartt Newel Pants are crafted from a Poly-Cotton blend that increases durability, whilst keeping that soft denim feel. However, if you absolutely must wash them, Carhartt advises you to do so inside out on a 40-degree wash.

When Carhartt first burst onto the scene in Detroit in the late 1800s its roots were firmly footed in workwear. The label, which is the brainchild of Hamilton Carhartt, carried great clout in the United States thanks to its rapport with industrial firms who were stationed up and down the country. You see, Carhartt had struck gold early on in the business’s inception – he found himself, and his namesake company, responsible for designing and manufacturing high-quality garments for labourers and railroad workers in their thousands.

Once those monumental contracts were secured next the brand began to branch out and its mainstream clothing quickly garnered the attention of creatives from further afield, including Edwin founder and German denim specialist Edwin Faeh. After striking a lucrative deal with the Carhartt family, which meant he could develop, design and export products of his own, using the brand’s distinctive DNA, Faeh trademarked the European offshoot and crowned it Carhartt WIP, or Carhartt Work In Progress.

From 1989 onwards, Carhartt WIP has outfitted every subculture under the sun, yielding a particularly large grasp on the BMX and skating scenes. Celebrated stars including Justin Bieber, Hailey Bieber, Kanye West, Ryan Gosling and David Beckham, to name just a few, have all pledged their allegiance to WIP’s apparel; further amplifying its allure and ubiquitous nature in pop culture.
