Stone Island Membrana 3L TC Jacket

Stone Island Membrana 3L TC Jacket: An In Depth Look

Stone Island Membrana 3L TC Jacket

A brand new Stone Island Membrana 3L TC jacket recently found its way through our doors and it got us all fondly reminiscing about the numerous reasons we can’t get enough of the Italian sportswear brand. So in an ode to the material maestros themselves and a pledge of allegiance to the compass patch we took a quick look into what makes them so good at what they do and why this fresh bit of Membrana has got us flying the Ravarino flag for all to see.

Take one glance at the sheer scale and variety of Stone Island’s impressive textiles resume and you know they mean business. Favouring the worlds of laboratories and practicality over that of runways and frivolity, Osti’s brand pursues a fierce desire to push the limits of what can and can’t be done when it comes to clothing, priding themselves on their defined sensibilities and a strong philosophy driven design ethos that prioritises the cornerstones of research, experimentation and functionality above all else.

The result? Some of the most technically pleasing garments we’ve had the fortune of getting our hands on, and that’s putting it lightly. In the years they’ve spent redefining the expectations when it comes to anything from outerwear to joggers they’ve not only amassed over 60,000 different dye recipes to compliment a vast list of bespoke materials, but turned things on their head when it comes to how garments are created, treated and subsequently finished all the while developing a dedicated cult following of detachable patch fanatics.

Just take a look at when the brand adopted something as ubiquitous as a chunky knitwear jumper into their revered ICE collection infusing it with a double layering of both pure wool and a thermo-sensitive yarn that resulted in changes of colour when the garment was exposed to a drop in temperature. Or, what about Stone Island’s nylon metal ripstop fabric? Arguably one of their most recognisable materials to date, it has been applied to a countless number of silhouettes boasting a trilobate structure that undergoes an intensive double-dye procedure to adapt it’s iconic metallic / tonic sheen with some pieces optimised further still with an internal resin treatment for an extra functional flair of elemental protection. In truth you could pick up any one of Stone Island’s products and spend hours discussing its nuances and intricate details whether it be a Tella Stella jacket or a pair of Felpa Placatta shorts the possibilities, in Stone Island’s opinion, truly are endless.

This latest addition to our Stone Island arsenal is no different. Cut in a slightly longer parka style length the jacket boasts plenty of intrinsic militaristic appeal and delivers on all fronts when it comes to a number of constructive complexities. Engineered from a lightweight performance fabric Stone Island refer to as Membrana 3L TC the jacket utilises a three pronged approach putting to work an opaque nylon outer layer laminated to a breathable, water resistant and windproof membrane which is then further reinforced with an impalpable polyester base. Not only does this mean the jacket is perfect for this time of year but it allows for Stone Island’s dyeing expertise to be applied directly to the outer layer whilst preserving the protective qualities of the underlying fabric.

Stone Island Membrana 3L TC Jacket

But that’s not all, aside from the top notch composition on offer the Stone Island Membrana 3L TC Jacket also comes equipped with an array of utilitarian attributes to serve your day to day needs including a plethora of pockets to keep your personal possessions safe, double velcro secured storm flaps with two-way main zip and both waist and hem adjusters to add shape if necessary. Perhaps one of the most notable features of the jacket however is it’s ability to be altered to fit your specific needs as fast as you could say, trilobate structure nylon micro ripstop weave, with the hood and both sleeves easily removable should the occasion call for it… and did we mention there is a removable compass patch on the sleeve?

Perhaps as they say in the world of motion picture it would be better to show rather than tell…

The Stone Island Membrana Jacket is available now at Aphrodite both in store and online.

The North Face Iridescent Collection

The North Face Iridescent collection delivers a fresh look for SS19

Far from its image as a strictly outdoor label, The North Face has always had a finger on the pulse of the city-dweller and a distinct urban presence, setting itself apart from ‘serious’ mountain climbing brands while still delivering performance and innovation in spades. Ever since the opening of their very first store in Berkeley, CA, the brand has adorned its signature pieces with bold colour-blocking and prints that have appealed just as much to the casual consumer as the outdoor enthusiast. Ever willing to push the boundaries, The North Face now present their latest capsule of urban classics: The Iridescent Collection.

The North Face Iridescent Cyclone II Jacket

Taking a brace of their most iconic outerwear styles — the 1996 Nuptse Jacket, 1990 Mountain Jacket and the Cyclone II windbreaker — The North Face have draped the familiar silhouettes in a multi-faceted, woven iridescent fabric, with a geometric pattern that changes aspect with the wearer’s movement. Showing off a palette of cool tones from purple to green to blue, the fabrics lose none of their performance attributes, with proprietary weather-proofing technologies like DryVent and WindWall all in full effect to help the wearer adapt to whatever the day brings.

The North Face Iridescent Pack Mountain Jacket

To bring things to the next level, the Nuptse down jacket and Mountain hard shell are modular, featuring zips and toggles to allow both to be worn together for the ultimate in weather resistance and warmth; these pieces may look good, but they’re also highly functional for even the harshest environments.

The North Face Iridescent Nuptse Jacket

Rounding out the Iridescent Collection is a clutch of apparel pieces including a t-shirt, hoodie and baseball cap, presented in stealthy black colourways and adorned with classic TNF branding in an iridescent treatment, perfect for mixing and matching with the outerwear, or for wearing solo on those warmer days. Owing to the technical nature of the fabrics, numbers for these pieces are strictly limited, so don’t sleep if you want to snag your favourite bits.

The North Face Iridescent Collection will be available from Aphrodite Clothing from the 10th of April 2019.

Stone Island Shadow Project Spring Summer 19

Out of the Shadows: Stone Island Shadow Project

Stone Island Shadow Project Spring Summer 2019

Stone Island Shadow Project – the sub-line of the Italian brand helmed by ACRONYM’s Errolson Hugh – never disappoint when it comes to pushing the boundaries of fabric composition and technology. Take, for instance, last season’s sell-out Scarabeo Down Jacket, with its dazzling multicoloured reflective shell. For Spring / Summer 2019, the brand goes in a more subtle, but no less impressive direction, playing with the concept of camouflage in different ways.

Stone Island Shadow Project Jacket SS19The Lenticular Jacquard Bomber Jacket utilises a lightweight single-layer fabric that is custom-woven in Italy with contrasting coloured threads in the warp and weft, resulting in a three-dimensional, dynamic camo pattern that changes appearance depending on the light and angle. Given the brand’s utilitarian approach, it is no surprise that this fabric is also treated with water-repellency and an anti-drop agent for supreme wearability to go with its timeless silhouette.

Stone Island Shadow Project DPM Chine Jacket

Once again utilising a custom-woven camouflage fabric, the Pullover DPM Chiné Jacket boasts a unique Shadow Project-designed DPM (Disruptive Pattern Material), a modern iteration of camouflage that is made to reflect bustling neon city streets rather than covert ops in a hostile environment. Equipped with stacked tunnel pockets for all your daily essentials and a toggle-adjustable hood, this is yet another modern classic from techwear genius Errolson Hugh.

Stone Island Shadow Project Catch Pocket Tee

Rounding out the collection is a brace of t-shirts with the brand’s signature high-tech graphics and the distinctive geometric Catch Pocket to the chest, giving any of your techwear looks a finishing touch. It’s the perfect taster of what’s yet to come for the rest of the season; keep a lock on our social media channels for more as and when it drops.

Whether it’s the effects of getting older or just the current lousy local weather, it’s hard to shake the feeling that it’s already June, and the summer will be over just as suddenly as it began. Fortunately, not everyone has such a bleak outlook: Stone Island, ever ready for all conditions, are already looking ahead to the colder, darker half of the year with some Stone Island pre-AW18 gear.

Encompassing a wide cross-section of staple styles, everything from soft cotton sweatshirts, through zipped overshirts, all the way up to the winter-ready Crinkle Reps down jacket are subject to the brand’s signature garment-dyeing techniques in a spectrum of tones ranging from cool ice blue to bold mustard yellow.

The juxtaposition of meticulously practical military and sports-inspired gear with rich colours gives the clothes an appeal that’s uniquely Stone Island, all hallmarked with the brand’s unmistakeable Compass logo badge, and has already got us looking forward to what the full AW’18 collection might hold. As usual, keep your eyes on our social media feeds for more information on that as it becomes available, but for now, you can find the latest drop both online and in-store. Canada Goose Outerwear New Arrivals & Restock

As the winter season reaches its final stretch, it can give a feeling of being never-ending: as I write this, harsh winter storms are battering most of the UK. Thankfully, your friends at Canada Goose have got you, quite literally, covered with a new styles and restocks of their popular Lodge and Brookvale ranges.

Canada Goose Brookvale Jacket

Appearing in both Jacket and Hoody styles in a range of versatile colours, the Lodge and Brookvale are designed to give the wearer all the core warmth they need no matter the weather, while still remaining lightweight and packable for when the sun decides to shine. Featuring ripstop shells for the perfect balance of light weight and durability, and filled with the brand’s signature Hutterite white duck down, whichever style you choose it’ll be the perfect companion for all your adventures.

Canada Goose Lodge Hoody

The highlight of the drop comes in the form of the PBI Lodge Hoody. Much like the previous seasons’ PBI Chilliwack and Expedition Parka jackets, the PBI Lodge Hoody is created in conjunction with Polar Bears International, an organisation dedicated to preserving polar bear habitats worldwide, and is distinguished by its signature ‘PBI Blue’ colourway and Polar Bear logo badge to the sleeve. Every sale of these jackets also gets donated to the PBI, so you can rest assured that you’re doing good while you’re looking good.

The Barbour SL Camo Bedale Jacket

When you hear the phrase ‘British heritage clothing’, chances are that a Barbour jacket would be one of the first things you’d think of: the brand’s reputation as an outdoor outfitter coupled with their timeless designs and traditional styling gives them an undeniable prestige. In more recent times, however, Barbour have been more willing to experiment with their archival designs, sometimes even handing over the reins to selected collaborators like Japan’s White Mountaineering.

Barbour Bedale Camouflage Jacket

This season is no different, with the brand opting to remix their quintessential waxed jacket, the Bedale, in a whole host of different patterns and finishes. This handsome example sees the Bedale SL – the previously Japan-only slimmed-down version – made up in an archival camouflage pattern, giving it a country-meets-military vibe that somehow makes perfect sense. Still using the brand’s signature waxed cotton fabrics and boasting a contrasting corduroy collar, this is sure to wear in beautifully, making it a perfect investment piece.

Introducing Stone Island’s ‘2 looks in 1’ reversible Nylon Metal jacket

Sportswear giants Stone Island have taken parts of their SS18 even further this season. To ensure that you get the most out of your jacket, Stone Island’s latest release is reversible to provide two looks in one.

The Nylon Metal is one of the most versatile fabrics from the brand’s textile archive. Proving popular in previous seasons, Nylon Metal was used to create the orange flock jacket. The fabric is put through two dyeing processes to achieve the unique colour sheen, creating an iridescent, chromatic appearance with varied coloured tones.

Stone Island Reversible Jacket Black

The reversible jacket for SS18 will become your companion on those days when it’s neither too hot or too cold, the perfect in-between climates jacket. Lightweight and versatile, the jacket is available in both black and silver. The main side of the jacket is crafted from the metallic Nylon Metal fabric, complete with spacious pockets, zip and storm-flap fastening and the iconic compass badge decorating the sleeve.

Stone Island Reversible Jacket purple

On the reverse side, a padded cotton shell is decorated with subtle ‘onion stitching’. This pattern and material are reminiscent of an American military liner, which was designed to be worn underneath a field jacket for extra warmth. Stone Island has embraced the trend of wearing liners as a standalone piece, here constructed as a staple bomber jacket with a ribbed cotton collar, with matching cuffs and hem. There are two buttons on the left sleeve (of the wearer) to change the location of your Stone Island badge.
