Moncler Cuvellier Jacket : Down Outerwear

Brushing shoulders with the Maya and Ecrins, the Moncler Cuvellier Jacket is the latest addition to the brand’s vast array of impeccable down-filled outerwear. Lifting its inspiration from the styling typically found within the Paninaro movement, which became popularised during the ’80s, it’s designed to keep the wearer protected despite rapid changes in weather. Boasting both smart material choices and an impressive amount of features intended to ensure function remains a priority, the Cuvellier excels both in street-approved looks and practical application.

What is the Moncler Cuvellier Jacket made from?

The Cuvellier is made from Moncler’s iconic nylon laque material. Known for its shiny appearance and protective properties, the same fabric can be found on many of the other stand-out styles in the Italian brand’s lineup such as the Maya, Ecrins and many more. True to Moncler’s nature, it also comes boudin quilted and padded with a warming down filling throughout.

How does the Moncler Cuvellier fit?

When it comes to fit the Moncler Cuvellier differs slightly than other jackets in the lineup. Delivering a more unique and street-savvy construction it features a fitted cut around the shoulders as well as a boxy shape toward the waist and short hip-length for a more contemporary look. For reference, the model shown in the images is 5ft11 and wearing a size 2 (medium).

Is the Cuvellier waterproof?

Whilst not totally waterproof, the Moncler Cuvellier does come with some water-resistant properties thanks to its nylon material. If you get caught in a quick light shower you should be fine but a sustained downpour may eventually breach the outer layer.

What are the main features?

As mentioned earlier when it comes to features, the Moncler Cuvellier certainly does not fall short of the mark. Starting off with two zip-secured side entry pockets for personal storage, the jacket comes with an elastic drawcord hood that can be easily removed using its press stud fastenings. Further bolstered with the inclusion of stretch rib-knit cuffs and an adjustable hem to keep out any unwanted chills, a main two-way zip closure allows for temperature regulation should things heat up. Finished with the classic felt logo to the sleeve, a rubberised tricolour accent sits central to the garment.

Crafted from a nylon blend soft shell fabric, the garment comes with intrinsic windproof and water resistant qualities without sacrificing on breathability. Given the palpable attention it commands both in-store and online, it’s no surprise that each of our members of staff are rich in knowledge of the Moncler Maya, especially store sales assistant Jorge. As part of our ‘Staff Knowledge Share’ series, Jorge has kindly detailed everything you need to know about the thermal Moncler staple below.

Backstory & Construction

Currently available in three versatile colourways, ranging from black, olive and navy, this iconic style is a linchpin of Moncler’s modern identity. Inspired by ’80s skiwear; it draws on the warmth, functionality and flexibility avid skiers require on the slopes and during après-ski activities, transcending these specifications into something more city appropriate.

Favoured by city-goers and celebs alike, this jacket has harnessed its own star power, turning into a reputable winter force across the globe. Acting legend Will Smith and Hotling Bling rapper Drake are just a couple of the jacket’s high-profile fans.

Dressed in a glossy nylon laquer, the jacket utilises the highest quality down fill, with Moncler ensuring the animal’s welfare is of the greatest importance, meaning no form of live-plucking is employed by Moncler. With a warming ratio of 90% white goose down clusters and 10% feathers, the jacket is packed tight with lightness, thermal capacity and insulating properties.

Boasting a fill power of 710, that’s cubic inches per 30 grams of down, the Maya jacket offers the wearer a light and airy body that’s both immensely comforting and warm.

In-store we’re often queried about the sizing of Moncler items which some can find tricky, particularly if they’re new to the brand. To give our customers some clarity on things we’ve listed a Moncler size guide below and we’ll also run over the sizing specifics of this jacket too, just so you know exactly how the Maya fits.

1 – size S, 2 – size M, 3 – size L, 4 – size XL, 5 – size 2XL, 6 – size 3XL, 7 – size 4XL.

Now that you’re up to speed with the sizing basics, let us explore the jacket’s fit. From experience, the majority of our customers tend to find that Moncler products fit quite close to the body. So as a rule of thumb, we would usually recommend taking a size up, after all, winter jacket’s that have some room to breathe and manoeuvre always feel more cosy and comfortable.

Garment Care

As with any down-filled garment, the Maya jacket must be delicately handled to maintain its proportions and even fill distribution. Official Moncler advice states that this jacket is safe to wash on a mild process 30 degrees wash. Do not bleach, do not tumble dry, do not iron and dry cleaning only in tetrachloroethene or with hydrocarbons.

Though it is safe to mildly wash, going off personal experience, we would stick with handwashing to retain its original construction and authentic look and feel.

Adds Ons & Alternatives

Equally great paired with sweatpants or denim, this style can be dressed up or down depending on your own preference and the occasion you have in mind. For a fully-fledged winter look, Moncler hats, gloves and scarves are great for keeping the ensemble branding on point.

If perhaps you can’t find the colourway or size you’re wanting in the Maya, a great alternative is the Moncler Ecrins jacket, currently available at Aphrodite in navy, black and red colourways. Though the Maya and Ecrins jackets are almost mirroring images of each other on the surface, there are some minor differences that we’re happy to highlight so that you can decipher which is best suited to you. The Ecrins has a price increase of £95, bringing the total of the jacket to £950 while further variations present at the hood – this silhouette’s hood is fully stitched onto the neckline and therefore, not able to detach at all. It is worth noting that both designs boast the same close-cut construction, therefore our sizing advice would remain unchanged in this instance.

Moncler SS’19: From Summits to Streets

Moncler SS’19 showcases the brand’s dedication to the perfect blend of functionality and fashion. After spending years mastering the harshest conditions found atop the highest peaks, the Italian luxury brand turns its attention to the concrete jungle and applies their refined mountaineering sensibilities to a collection filled with bold graphic prints, urban appeal and contemporary style.

All White Ensemble

This all-white ensemble gives visions of fresh powder snow at basecamp and offers a more laid-back take on Moncler’s usual aesthetic. The Montreal Jacket in White boasts a technical design whilst dripping in French tri-colour goodness with unapologetic branding to the chest and sleeve. This piece will have you feeling comfortable but looking good. Whether it’s on top of the slopes or just your casual rotation. We styled the versatile jacket with some of our favourite garments from the latest batch; including Moncler Sweatpants in White and Moncler Hoodie in White.

Presenting an athletic style whilst committing to the theme of ‘as white as snow’, we paired the all-white fit with the brand’s Anakin Sneakers in White. The outfit is completed with the similarly impressive Dreux Jacket. Although this is a more lightweight version of the time-honoured padded down jacket, Moncler doesn’t cut corners on quality with this piece. The Dreux is the ideal addition to your technical outerwear collection. Crafted with 90% down, 10% feather padding and perfected in Romania. Two-way zip fastening and elasticated cuffs and hem assure to keep in all the warmth. A no brainer when it comes to inclement weather and unpleasant temperatures. Finished with some understated joggers; the vibrant orange lining in the hood contrasts with this all-black outfit and will add a pop of colour to anyone’s wardrobe.

The brands recently released Bubble Sneakers offer a seemingly relaxed look with plenty of intrinsic practicality. There was no holding back when it comes to the construction of the Bubble Sneaker.
