adidas BW Army Trainers | White/Gum & Black/Gum | Releasing 16th of June

adidas finally unearth one of their most iconic, yet rarely seen silhouettes: the BW Army. In the 1970s, adidas made a simple yet surprising stylish indoor training shoe for the German army, which has since become something of a design classic. Its slim, simple design with clean uppers and suede blocking set atop a gum sole have made it a casual staple across the world, a regular fixture of European second-hand and surplus stores, and subject to several homages, notably by high fashion pioneers Maison Margiela.

adidas BW Army TrainersThis new version by adidas upgrades the original with premium leather uppers and tonal suede overlays, a cool and comfortable Ortholite sockliner, and subtle adidas branding, but remains faithful to the original design. After all, if something isn’t broken, why fix it? The slim, minimal silhouette and timeless styling allows the BW Army to be worked into a wide variety of outfits, from casual tailoring to more laid-back street-ready looks.

adidas BW Army TrainersThis has been a highly-anticipated release for many, as the Three Stripes haven’t touched this silhouette for nearly ten years. The adidas BW Army will release in both white and black colourways on the 16th of June, available instore and online from Aphrodite Clothing.

Puma TSUGI Shinsei Raw | Triple Black & Marshmallow White | Releasing 1st of June

It’s undeniable that Puma have made some of the most iconic shoe styles of all time; the Clyde and Roma are timeless classics. But there’s more to Puma than heritage styles, which the company is aptly demonstrating with their new TSUGI range. Meaning ‘next’ in Japanese, the name evokes the brand’s commitment to pushing things forward, both in terms of aesthetics and technology – an ethos embodied by the latest addition to the range, the Shinsei.

Boasting a striking look that’s sure to be divisive among sneakerheads, the Shinsei utilises Puma’s latest technologies, including an evoKNIT upper in the popular sock-fit design, a padded nylon tongue coupled with a side-lacing system to provide comfortable foot lockdown and a unique ‘waveform’ sole unit made from IGNITE energy-returning foam (Puma’s answer to arch-rivals adidas’ Boost technology).

Elsewhere we find diamond-perforated suede side panels for a subtle textural hit, and a boldly-branded elastic gore to the heel for supreme comfort. Taken together, these elements combine to create a unique, stylish and comfortable sneaker that’s sure to turn heads.

The Puma TSUGI Shinsei Raw sneaker drops on June 1st in both Triple Black and Marshmallow White colourways from Aphrodite1994. Shop our full Puma range today for more past and future classics.

Nike Air Sock Racer Ultra Flyknit | Releasing 27th of April

Building on the momentum from their Air Max Day releases last month, Nike once again set their sights on their archives for more vintage silhouettes to remaster with its latest technologies. This time it’s the turn of their 1985 marathon runner, the Air Sock Racer. With its distinctive twin-strap design in place of laces and one-piece mesh upper, this was a radical design that’s proven to be ahead of its time; with the current trend for one-piece sock-fit uppers on sneakers, it bears remembering that this was Nike’s first ever running shoe to try such a design.

The new Ultra Flyknit tooling makes perfect sense with this concept in mind, with the woven Flyknit uppers and Free sole unit reducing the mass of the shoe even further while increasing comfort, durability and breathability. The straps and heel quarter also get an upgrade in soft nubuck leather, allowing the wearer to customise the fit to their liking. Also worth noting is the low-key branding, with Nike’s iconic Swoosh conspicuously absent from the upper of the shoe, only appearing on the rubber heel tab and subtly embossed to the midsole.

Three colourways are releasing: the ever-popular ‘Oreo’ black and white; a muted pale grey and black; and, in a nod to the OG, a bright yellow and black. All three colourways will be available from Aphrodite Clothing on 27th of April.

adidas EQT Support ADV – Medium Grey / Black – Releasing Thursday 23rd March

In the early 1990s, adidas was more closely associated in the public consciousness with the burgeoning Britpop scene, with Gazelles, Sambas and Superstars gracing the feet of both bands and their fans. In 1991 however adidas introduced their Equipment series of trainers, and with their revolutionary technical features like the Torsion lacing system and removable sock-linings also came forward thinking silhouettes and designs, propelling adidas into the performance sector right alongside their arch rivals Nike.

Fast forward to today, and the Equipment range – now shortened to EQT – has found a new lease of life as a lifestyle range with bold, retro-futuristic styling coupled with utmost comfort features. The EQT Support ADV takes its inspiration from the very first Equipment running shoes from 1991 and updates them with modern materials and streetwear styling. Starting with the iconic EQT sole unit with its anatomical shape and three-dimensional Three Stripes motif, the sneaker features a lightweight sock-fit upper crafted from mesh with welded TPU overlays and a neoprene rear quarter sporting a tonal camouflage pattern.

The most striking feature of this iteration is the soft moulded TPU heel cage in contrast ‘Turbo Pink’, which provides both support to the foot and a bold, modern look, and the silhouette is completed with tonal nylon tape lace stays that continue the Three Stripes motif from the midsole.

Dropping in both Medium Grey and Core Black colourways, the adidas EQT Support ADV will be available from Aphrodite Clothing on the 23rd of March, priced at £94.

adidas x Raf Simons Ozweego 2 Bunny

Raf Simons and adidas are back at it again with the second Ozweego 2 Bunny drop of the season, this time in a moody black colourway with contrast gum-coloured outsole tread.

The Ozweego family has seen considerable hype from fashion stars across the board, from the street to the catwalk and in between, and for good reason. Raf’s bold architectural design sensibilities combine with the 3-Stripes’ extensive archive of footwear and technical know-how to create a shoe both forward-thinking and familiar. The Ozweego cuts a striking retro-futurist figure with its exaggerated adiprene midsole with contrast adiwear tread, two-layer uppers combining materials and textures like neoprene, rubber and nylon, and the distinctive translucent silicone bubbles along the sides and to the tongue. The Bunny model is distinguished by gold-stamped typographical details to the uppers, as well as the designer’s logo printed to the collar.

Releasing in very limited numbers, the adidas x Raf Simons Ozweego 2 Bunny is available on Friday the 17th of March from Aphrodite1994.
