Of course, it’s not like we needed anymore evidence from Nike especially not with their verging on intimidating lineup of culturally embedded sneaker silhouettes that include timeless classics such as the Air Max 1, 180, 95 and so forth. So, in the interest of not dwelling on the past too much or rehashing what is by now common knowledge amongst the sneaker orientated, we’d like to introduce you to the next step in Nike’s unrelenting journey to take air infused midsoles to their very limits.

Known as the Nike Air Max 200 this newest addition to the Air Max family combines some of the best bits from past and present Nike models with a hearty dose of new-wave advancement, resulting in a silhouette that is not only unique in its own right but feels wholly familiar at the same time. A Timeless Silhouette Offered In Two New Exciting Colourways

Returning with a fresh instalment of their newly launched N.354 series, Nike unveils the AF1-Type in “Black / Pink Tint” and “Summit White” colourway.

Originally launched in 1982, the iconic Air Force silhouette was the first basketball shoe that featured a pocket filled with air in the heal for extra cushioning; ensuring support, comfort and a strong foundation. Now, Nike dives deep into the Department of Nike’s Archives to reimagine the pre-production prototype that is the AF1-Type and yields exciting results.

“Black / Anthracite / Zinnia / Pink Tint”

Stripped down but highly detailed, the Air Force 1 Type boasts a handmade aesthetic. Showcasing the brand’s dedication to timeless silhouettes and pushing the boundaries on footwear design. The most recent colourway that Nike has to offer is “Black / Pink Tint”. A unique colour scheme that flaunts detailing that symbolises the past, present and future.

The pair features several unique elements. A key modification is the Velcro strap closure system that sits across its heel. A transparent skin-like material on the inner of the shoe showcases the closure system and adjustable coral pink details. Handwritten Nike Swoosh resting on the rear tab, seam tape and exposed stitches create a handcrafted effect and gesture a first-draft of a potential future product. Pencilled “n.354” sits proudly to the outer panel, influenced by American long-distance runner Steve Prefontaine’s fastest mile.

A padded stretch tongue gives a retro feel. Round indented segments and perforated pattern add further detailing whilst offering additional ventilation. A double-in-size toe cap, with geometric, crocodile-skin-like patterning, inspired by the technical manuals found inside shoeboxes from the ‘70s and ‘80s. A nostalgic piece of detailing that also presents a futuristic vibe.

“Summit White / Red Orbit / White / Black”

The second colourway is “Summit White”. A crisp, clean colour scheme that is equally as iconic as “Black / Pink Tint”. Faux hand drew “n. 354” is dressed in black and sits beneath bright coral tape detailing. A contrasting padded stretch tongue adds an extra pop of colour to the AF1-Type model, boasting cobalt blue. Although minimally branded, the design offers a modern take on a pre-production prototype.

Known for their comfort and practicality, Nike doesn’t cut corners when it comes to the quality of the AF1-Type. A partial breathable inner sleeve offers a sock-like feel, allowing comfort and ventilation all day long. Flywire cables and adjustable heel strap not only provides a unique closure system but additional support around your midfoot also. The AF1-Type is built with cupsole construction; delivering a harder feeling whilst offering more foot and ankle support. The Nike air unit provides lightweight cushioning and comfort, just like it did back in 1982.

The Air Force body has been a huge success since the ‘80s. The silhouette is now considered a global street culture standard. Frequently being re-envisioned by major fashion houses and Nike designers, there are hundreds of AF1 designs and collaborations available on the market today.

The Nike Air Max2 Light Returns For Spring Summer 2019

The Nike Air Max2 Light has found its way through our doors bringing with it impressive levels of vintage athletic appeal and of course some similarly gob smacking mechanics below. Looking for your next pair of hot weather kicks? Look no further.

From head to toe denim ensembles and frosted tips to the birth of the internet in America and successful attempts at cloning a sheep named Dolly, there is no denying that the ‘90s was a wild time not only for fashion, but for society in general. With significant events cropping up left, right and centre, fashion trends spinning out of control and genetically engineered barnyard animals to contest with Nike had to do something drastic to stay out in front and build upon the momentum they had created with the launch of the now legendary Air Max 1 in 1987.

Cue what could arguably be seen as the great glory days for the Beaverton born sportswear company as they set to work putting in place the foundations from which their footwear empire still stands to this day, releasing instant classic after instant classic and kicking things up a notch when it came to gas injected midsoles. Booting things off with the Air Max 90 the era lays claim to the crème de la crème of exposed air unit silhouettes boasting a fear-inducing numerical line-up that consists of heavy-hitters such as the Air max 95, Air Max 180, the 93, 97, 98 and of course the Nike Air Max2 Light.

Unleashed to the world in 1994 the Nike Air Max2 Light was the next iteration in Nike’s Light line-up which thanks to a clever composition of less weighty materials provided, as the name suggests, a much more lightweight frame when compared to its fellow air max brethren. Couple this with an arsenal of the latest fine-tuned advancements at it’s disposal and some purposeful adjustments to the core fundamentals of the now tried and tested air max technology and it’s easy to see why the trainer was an instant success.

In a move which could be seen as responsible for pioneering future tech, such as Tuned Air, and in an answer to the increasing demand for more responsive running footwear the Nike Air Max2 Light split its air infused midsole into different compartments, alternating the amount of pressure in each to reach new levels of underfoot support and performance enhancing ingenuity. But, aside from the abundance of complexities found at ground level, perhaps what made the Nike Air Max2 Light such a fan favourite was its multi-panelled uppers and robustly shaped dimensions which took on its array of bold colours with ease.

Returning just in time for summer with the addition of some cuhslon foam and a fresh lick of OG coloured paint, the Nike Air Max2 Light sticks to its original winning formula boasting lashings of contrasting colour blocked red mesh and suede uppers against a clean white leather base. Staying grounded with hits of black to the side swoosh and outsole the trainer is finished with retro branding to the tongue, subdued grey accents to the heel and a green tinged air unit.

Nike React Element 87 – The Future Is Now

Combining the best in new age data driven design and old school sensibilities the Nike React Element 87 was created, much like many of its swoosh clad predecessors before it, with one simple goal in mind: to make running and walking more comfortable. Paying homage to what Nike defines as everyday athletes the trainer owes its futuristic geometric design to those of us who find ourselves running to catch the early morning bus, trawling the city streets in search of last-minute Birthday presents or pounding the pavements to complete daily errands.

Launched back in 2018 we got our first glimpse of the trainers in March when they found themselves debuting on non-other than the runways of Paris in a collaborative effort with Japanese streetwear label, Undercover. Not only did the trainers showcase some seriously crowd-pleasing stripped back uppers but gave a taste of what had been going on behind the scenes at the nerve centres of the Nike footwear laboratories when it came to the latest advancements in on foot technology.
Starting out by pressure map testing the feet of individuals who walked heavily throughout the day the designers were able to identify the main points of fatigue and strain and subsequently set to work elevating it. In an approach that hinges almost on science-fiction, the special projects team began by mapping the results onto, the already world renowned, react foam, drilling holes at specific densities and depths to create a sole that not only offers improved support and an added number of comfort benefits but, enhanced the materials intrinsic shock absorption qualities with a unique, movement influenced wave design and grip-providing rubber outsole pods that tackles the perils of everyday urban wear one step at a time.

But it’s not all underfoot where these trainers shine with plenty of distinct characteristics present North of the midsole. Taking inspiration from both the original 1983 Nike Internationalist runner and the asymmetrical construction of the Nike Zoom Fly SP, the Nike React Element 87 pulls together a plethora of specifically chosen elements for an Avant Garde look that rests nicely on an indistinguishable line between, trail shoe, runner and everything in between.

Featuring a hiking-esque lacing system, exposed stitching and an enlarged Nike tick to the lateral side the two new colourways see pops of moss green and dusty peach highlight the sneakers distinct silhouette and idiosyncratic shape. Perhaps most notably however, aside from the serious brain power in the sole, is the trainers multi-layered uppers which boast hits of suede and a translucent TPE textile wrap that reveals the interior of the shoe and, in similarly ground-breaking fashion as the application of an exposed air unit to the midsole, challenges the expected norm when it comes to traditional footwear tropes. Rounding out the design other notable details include a sporty heel clip, reflective detailing and some vintage inspired gum hits below.

It appears when it comes to bold claims of the, ‘evolution of sneakers’ and the ‘future of footwear’ Nike not only seem to know a thing or two about what they are talking about but, have the foamdrilled holes to prove it. Bring it Back to 1996 with the Nike Air Zoom Alpha

Perhaps second only to Nike‘s own Air Max, Zoom Air is one of the most ubiquitous and beloved footwear technlogies to have emerged in the last few decades. Preferred by runners and basketball players for its low-profile deployment and agile, responsive nature, Zoom Air is a performance-oriented evolution of the Air Max concept. Utilising a podular design with specially-shaped pockets of encapsulated gas, the tech can be tailored to the requirements of each sport, even to individual players as seen in the numerous NBA signature models that deploy Zoom to varying degrees. Yet, while the original bearer of the Air Max label — the Air Max 1 — retains an unparalleled status as a pop culture icon, the same cannot be said of the first shoe to use the Air Zoom moniker: the 1996 Nike Air Zoom Alpha.

A technological marvel from the moment of its release, the Alpha was nevertheless quickly overshadowed by its immediate successor, the Nike Air Zoom Spiridon, whose flashy metallic branding and evolutionary mesh build resonated more strongly with sneakerheads of the time. However, as is often the case, fashion comes and goes in cycles; now, in 2019, the bulky leather panelling and aggressive stance of the Air Zoom Alpha are a perfect fit for streets rife with similar silhouettes.

Boasting a distinctive ‘wave’ design that Nike would revisit the next year in the Air Zoom Spiridon and Air Max 97, the Air Zoom Alpha is built from layers of breathable mesh and hardwearing synthetics, set atop a Phylon midsole that carries on the undulating visual language while providing extra comfort and shock absorbency. Meanwhile, underfoot the signature Zoom ‘pods’ can be seen to the outsole, used as a basis for the outsole tread pattern and promoting healthy foot movement — which translates to a supremely comfortable ride for modern wearers.

In honour of its cult classic status, Nike have reissued the Air Zoom Alpha in two distinct colourways for Spring 19: one hews closely to the sneaker’s OG colourway, with mid-90s monochrome bolstered by Nike Running’s signature Volt Yellow shade; the other delivers bold colour pops in green and red in a visual homage to a certain Italian fashion house that’s beloved by streetwear aficionados. Whichever you choose, the Nike Air Zoom Alpha is the perfect choice to flex your Swoosh knowledge this season.
