Outfit Grid – Heatwave, must have style day to night.

As a current of tropical air from the Atlantic Azores Islands hits the UK this weekend, we gear up for a scorcher of a bank holiday and what is claimed to be the start of the hottest May in four decades. Well, we know us Brits and whether its the beach by day or not, we know a beer garden, barbecue and at least one late night is on the cards, in true bank holiday fashion. Here’s a little something we put together to take you from day to night with a few things considered (comfort and coolness being the main competitors).

These cotton drawstring pants from APC, in a lightweight seersucker cotton are the perfect summer pant. Smart or casual, rolled up or down loose, their versatility means you can get maximum usage which is always a massive box ticker for us! Outfit – Tokyo to Paris

This season we welcomed Japanese label Commes des Garçons Shirt to the Aphrodite family and as their array of t-shirts are too good not to shout about we thought we’d make some form of an introduction by teaming our favourite edition, the Tartan Logo T-Shirt, with a few pieces from the brand’s Paris based neighbours, thus providing a bit of fashion trivia along the way.

As French as Comme des Garcons Shirt may at first glance appear, it is always as a surprise that many learn its Japanese (Tokyo) origins and the brand is most certainly not alone in this theme as there are others who follow a similar suit, APC for instance, a Paris based brand founded by Tunisian fashion designer Jean Touitou. While designers Martin Margiela, of another Paris based label Maison Margiela, and Raf Simons, who held a three-year title as Dior’s creative director, are both of Belgian descent.

Today’s outfit features tartan text t-shirt by Comme des Garçons Shirt, black oversized hoodie by Maison Margiela, black jeans by APC, burgundy Ozweego III trainers by Adidas x Raf Simons and not forgetting this black logo backpack by Y3‘s Yohji Yamamoto because you cant speak of Paris and not include this technical genius, click link to see what we mean!

Outfit Grid – The Lazy Weekend Edit

This weekend called for an agenda free kick back in preparation for the bank holiday ahead. Nipping out for a paper, a coffee or meeting a friend for an afternoon bite was about as strenuous as it got and we’re easing into the new week with contentment. With that in mind we thought we’d throw together a nice, easy but comfortable (and of course stylish) ensemble that wouls perfectly depict your future lazy weekend intentions.

It was classically refined comfort all round last week as we got a sneak peek at the Maison Margiela and APC SS18 collection pieces (in store and online now) and this green striped, terry cloth, crew neck really caught our eye for numerous reasons. Styled here with APC soft jersey joggers, AMI heavy denim jacket, CDG x Spalwart trainers and wallet by APC … accessorise with a coffee carry cup, newspaper under arm and your favourite sunnies. We would like to point out that this is also a perfect travel outfit, not that we’re trying put ideas into your head though, just a passing thought!

Outfit grid – A British Culture Tribute

After heading down to one of our favourite local music venues Hoochie Coochie last weekend for an intimate and euphoric gig with British post-punk legends A Certain Ratio, we’ve since felt an overwhelming sense of 80’s nostalgia spurring us to take a (fashion) trip back to the post-punk/new wave era, where three things are most definitely prominent throughout. Laurel Wreath clad polo shirts, brilliantly British tailoring and those unmistakable three stripes. Here we pay homage to some old classics …

If you were asked to think back to 80’s Britain, OK so a flash of BBCs Grange Hill, The Young Ones or The Two Ronnies might spring to mind but, you’d also have at least one of you or a mate sporting some form of Fred Perry or Adidas whether it be a classic polo and tennis shoes or full branded shell suit. Even a nice bit of Paul Smith tailoring if you were attending a wedding or feeling swish of a weekend. Here’s an everyday version of the above three that still hail and show no signs of being forgotten about, with a couple essentials from our friends overseas.

The Fred Perry bomber, Paul Smith polo shirt and Adidas 350 silhouette all make for a recognisably British style and championed by a rage of famous faces from Robert Pattinson to Oasis front men the Gallagher brother and of course the late and exceptionally talented Amy Winehouse. No British look is complete without a sturdy and durable pair of denims and at this we would like to introduce (if not already acquainted) you to the Swedish denim brand Nudie Jeans, organic, fair trade and an Aphrodite HQ favourite. Don’t forget your contrasting socks for that quirky finish.

Moncler is a firm favourite here at Aphrodite, and with good reason. Moncler has become one of the most sought after outerwear brands with worldwide recognition and a huge celebrity following. Originally designed for the slopes, the brand has now filtered down to the streets for a more casual market. The iconic mountain peak badge has become a instantly recognisable logo with the fashion conscious.

Outfit: Patagonia x Edwin x Red Wings x Aquascutum x Canada Goose x Barbour

As the weather takes a bitter turn, it’s time to wrap up warm and this weeks outfit grid will do just that with pieces from Patagonia, Edwin, Red Wing Shoes, Aquascutum, Canada Goose and Barbour. Lets dig a little deeper into this wonderfully warm outfit.

Starting off with Patagonia, we have picked the Snap-T pullover in a distinctive navy and red. A true outdoor icon, made from recycled polyester Synchilla fleece this pullover will keep you warm while the soft material will keep you comfy, ideal for layering in the cooler months.

To go over that fleece and keep the chilly wind out, we have chosen another piece from Patagonia, the Hi Loft Down hooded jacket in navy. Delivering comfort and warmth, making it that ideal choice for the cold up-coming winter days. Made with advanced global traceable down the outer is covered in a recycled polyester ripstop shell, with a full zip fastening and two zip-up pockets.

Sticking with the navy theme, Edwin provide the pants of the outfit with their 55 chinos. Based on the fit of Edwin’s most popular ED-55 jeans, these chinos come in a relaxed, tapered fit. Crafted from compact cotton twill with angled side pockets, a coin pocket within the left pocket, and two flat rear pockets. Finished with tan herringbone waistband lining and a black leather logo waist patch.

Now to really wrap you up warm, we have picked a few accessories to go with it, an Aquascutum Lambswool Check scarf, a Canada Goose logo pom hat made from super soft merino wool and to keep your hands warm Barbour providing some black leather gloves.

On feet, we had to go with the durable Red Wings and in this case the Red Wing Moc Toe Boots 6″ 8138, these boots that are handmade provide excellent durability and traction in the winter months. Made with a premium Briar Oil Slick leather and a lightweight outsole, you’ll be sure footed this winter.

Outfit Grid – Transitional Wear

Stay on trend this autumn with our key transitional pieces from some of our favourite brands.
