adidas Bring Acidic Colours to the Raf Simons Detroit Runner

From Americana to anarcho-punk, legendary designer and polymath Raf Simons holds a host of influences in his work, whether for his own fashion line or in his long-running collaboration with adidas. This season, Simons draws on the aesthetics of 70s glam rock for the newest iteration of the adidas by Raf Simons Detroit Runner, drenching the silhouette in unexpected colour combinations.

Already steeped in glam-rock’s futurist aesthetic, the Detroit Runner is elevated this season with striking colour-ups that are a stark departure from the tonal approach of previous seasons. One pair is swathed in the acidic colour palette of the era, with a black base offset by bold red and lime green to the futuristic sole unit, while the other is more sober, coming in a monochrome make-up. Both pairs are completed with the designer’s signature RS lettering to the canvas uppers, this time offered in a mirrored finish for an extra 70s touch.

Maison Margiela

Maison Margiela SS’19: Modern Mastery

For a fashion house shrouded in anonymity and known for their enigmatic, clothes first approach the name Maison Margiela really needs no introduction. Revered for their often avant-garde, out of the box styling and deconstructive approach to design the brand has forged a globally recognised reputation for innovative luxury and forward-thinking refinement. Whether presenting their wildly imaginative artisanal collections, dressing the creme de la creme of the celebrity world or splitting opinions with their unconventional footwear, the brand does so with an inviolable purpose and unapologetic style.

Maison Margiela Spring/Summer

But, despite their often left-field approach, the brand still manages to bring with them an undeniable appeal to the more contemporary masses, earning them a place amongst some of the worlds most sought after apparel. Founded in 1988, Margiela quickly set their sights on protesting the glossy, polished fashion found in abundance at the time applying minimal detailing, such as their now iconic ‘X’ stitch embellishment, and a stripped back, unfinished aesthetic that set themselves well apart from the crowd. Continuing this approach over 30 years later, their newest collection spans modern athletic trainers, immaculately constructed leather jackets and nods to over 500-year-old pieces of art, showcasing the brand’s omnidirectional abilities and their dedication to exceptional quality and craftsmanship that, in true Margiela style, speaks for itself.

The latest Maison Margiela arrivals are available now both in store and online here. Take a closer look below at some of our favourites.

Norse Projects New Arrivals

Contemporary Classics With Norse Projects

Despite Spring Summer gear coming at us thicker and faster than the recent snowy weather – the irony doesn’t escape us – we’ve always got time to show off some of our latest arrivals, especially when they are as nice as some of the newest stuff from Norse Projects. One of the great masters of contemporary menswear their minimal detailing, no-nonsense construction and clean silhouettes keep us coming back for more season after season, and of course, this is no different. If you’re a fan of over-the-head outerwear, endless layering possibilities and sharp overshirts then please, read on.

Lightweight, breathable and both water and dirt repellent, the Kalix Anorak is an incredibly comfortable half-zip jacket that can be incorporated easily into layered looks or worn on its own when things heat up. Paired here with the Godtfred t-shirt and the Aros light twill chinos, the jacket Comes with two front pockets to keep both hands warm and brick a brack safe whilst an adjustable hood and waist bulk up the jacket with some extra protective options when the elements begin to get out of hand. We know what you’re thinking, a t-shirt? Won’t you be freezing this time of year? Well, I’m here to politely tell you that’s where you’re wrong. Aside from its typically Scandinavian flavoured stripe design and relaxed cut, the Godtfred t-shirt comes crafted from a heavyweight compact cotton material ensuring bonus points when it comes to baselayer insulation. Lastly, we threw a Norse cap into the mix both because it features that small embroidered N we all can’t get enough of and it might have made the sun come out by sheer force of will. Sadly, it disappeared not long after these pictures.

Norse Projects Cap

A pullover hoodie underneath an overshirt is as casually cool as those subtle head nods people do to one another when they pass someone on the streets they sort of know but not enough to stop and have a conversation. In this case, we went with the Jens Zip jacket over the top of this season’s burgundy cotton loopback goodness. Made from a similar lightweight nylon material as the aforementioned Kalix, the Jens Sits atop another pair of classic Norse Aros chinos and comes with two front chest pockets and that all-important two-way zip for versatile styling. The usual kangaroo pouch pocket, Norse Projects tab and adjustable hood we’ve come to expect from the year-round staple Vagn hoodie is, of course present, ready to provide a splash of functionality and just a touch of branding suitable for even the most stripped back look.

Nike NSW Tracksuit : Summer Vibes

You’ve never seen a Nike tracksuit like this before. Looking more Bahamas than Beaverton, there are some serious tropical vibes in this latest football-inspired capsule via Nike’s directional NSW label.

Comprising a separate track top, pants and a football shirt, each individual piece packs a punch with all-over ‘floral glitch’ graphics in electrifying colours, with the slouchy silhouettes given them a modern, wearable quality that’s ideal for adding a hit of colour and sportswear style to any casual outfit. The electric colour scheme is also the ideal match for the latest iteration of the hit Air Max 270 silhouette, with its black base, iridescent accents and colour gradient Air bubble.

Wear it all together, if you dare, and you’ve got a head-to-toe look that really demands attention, whether on the streets, the sidelines or at the gym. Not for the faint of heart, but if you can pull it off…

All the pieces shown are available in store and online at Aphrodite Clothing now.

Maison Kitsune

New to Aphrodite: Maison Kitsuné

Here at Aphrodite we’re huge fans of an animal logo: from the iconic Lacoste crocodile to Paul Smith’s psychedelic rainbow zebra. Joining these illustrious ranks is our latest brand — Maison Kitsuné.

Originally a (very cool) record label, the Franco-Japanese brand now runs a (very cool) clothing range alongside it, which we are delighted to welcome to our racks this Spring. The first drop starts off strong with a spread of wardrobe essentials, all crafted in Portugal by carefully-selected manufacturers with a certain artisanal savoir-faire that manifests in the softly-worn vintage appearance of the garments. The defining feature, though, is that amazing tricouleur-flavoured fox embroidery to the chest, giving that effortless Parisian flair the brand is known for.

Encompassing sweatshirts, polos and both long and short sleeved t-shirts, the first arrival from Maison Kitsuné is available instore and online now. Keep an eye on our social media feeds for more as it arrives, along with the rest of our Spring/Summer ’19 ranges.

adidas Originals Rugby Sweatshirt

A Try-Fecta Of Striped adidas Goodness

Since we can remember the realms of sports and fashion have lived harmoniously side by side, think fish and chips, tea and biscuits, Batman and Robin – you get the idea. Whether it be with the inception of the old school sneakerhead desperate to scratch their trainer itch, the evolution of athletic streetwear or in more recent years, the adaption of performance footwear, tracksuits and other sporty garms as high fashion collection staples. Now we aren’t here to tell you if three soles make a right or if trackies belong on the runway but we are here to tell you about these incredibly nice rugby sweatshirts made by the good people over at adidas.

adidas Originals Rugby Sweat

It seems 2018 was, among many things, the year the rugby shirt finally got the attention it deserved with more and more brands beginning to throw their proverbial hat into the polo shirt/sweater hybrid arena. It’s no surprise either, with a whole load of versatile layering possibilities, colour blocked designs and sharp collar finishings on offer guaranteed to have even the biggest rugby cynic finding themselves suddenly 4 players deep in the scrum, paying £4 in weekly subs and turning out as a flanker 8am on the dot every Saturday morning. So move over tennis, out of the way football, jog on running as this latest stunner from adidas has got us craving three points on the pitch nearly as much as three stripes on the sleeves.

adidas Originals Rugby Sweat Orange/Navy/White

Dressed both in a vibrant array of navy and orange or a cool vintage yellow and grey ensemble, the rugby shirt features an intrinsically retro feel with a whole host of overlaid detailing and segmented athletic design. With a selection of ribbing to the cuffs and hem bringing an enhanced quality both to the fit and silhouette, the sweats feature a try-fecta (apologies in advance for that one) of embroidered adidas branding including a classic trefoil to the back, contrast ‘adidas’ panels and the usual striping placed to the collar and sleeves. Put that all together with two front welt pockets, an exaggerated four button placket and a 100% cotton French terry construction and there is no question about it, you’ve got yourself a winner.

adidas Originals New Releases

So whether you could care less about rugby or not, if you care about looking good and feeling comfortable then this sweatshirt is the one for you. Get your hands on the adidas Originals Rugby Sweatshirt in both colourways in store or online here now.

Y-3 Harigane Sneakers

Y-3 Spring/Summer ’19: First Footwear Drop

After the success of last year’s celebratory 15-year anniversary collection, Y-3 are right back at it for 2019 with a slew of new footwear models.

Y-3 SS19 Raito Racer

The key piece from the first drop is the all-new Raito Racer. Japanese for ‘light’, the Raito takes its name seriously, building on a thickly-cushioned wedge of Boost with ultra-light Primeknit uppers for a breathable, supportive fit. Yohji Yamamoto’s typical flair for design detail is on full display here, with topstitched lacing sections that also serve to add extra support and structure to the inner of the shoe, along with an eyecatching ‘mosaic’ outsole and minimal branding for a sleek and thoroughly modern look.

Y-3 Raito Racer Sneakers in White

Meanwhile, the popular Harigane sneaker from last season is getting a refreshed look for the new year. Keeping the scuptural, geometric sole unit and sharktooth outsole from the original, the Harigane II is upgraded with monochrome Primeknit uppers and topstitched detailing for a more streamlined look than its predecessor. Keeping with the rest of the season, the finishing touch comes with hand-stitched zigzag detailing to the tongues.

Finally, the imprint resurrects the adidas ZX Flux silhouette for its own version, the ZX Run. Building on the original’s Torsion-equipped sole unit, the ZX Run boasts uppers in a textured mixture of premium leather, suede and nylon. Perforated detailing and a panelled design calls to mind classic Y-3 styles but with contemporary branding and tooling for an all-day comfortable ride.

Find all three styles instore and online at Aphrodite now, and keep an eye on our social media feeds for more Y-3 SS19 news.
