The Stussy brand was founded to change the image and thought process behind casualwear, the idea of looking good and feeling comfy and cosy in the clothes wasn't as prominent as it is in today's world of fashion. In the 1980's America,  Shawn Stussy was seen as a revolutionary thinker taking inspirations from the world of surf and skateboarding creating pieces that are practical, allowing the wearer to be able to stake while looking good.

The Stussy brand wasn't an instant success, like any brand or company trying to redefine how people think the shift took time. Stussy set up small showrooms in New York and California showing off their designs hoping larger brands and fashions houses would take note and start working with the new brand from So Cal.

Inspired by the Southern California surf scene with the aim of redefining the look and ideology of casualwear. The Stussy Sweatshirt was the Laguna Beach native's first step in creating a global brand, focusing on simpler pieces and executing them superbly well, this saw the brand gain a reputation as a high-quality, trailblazing brand. Musicians, skaters, DJs and artists started to take note of Stussy and were seen wearing the brand. Stussy was starting to gain a huge following with trendsetters in
Europe and Asia, Stussy had created a movement inspired by a network of like-minded individuals.
