Comme Des Garcons x Converse collaboration

A collab that combines both heritage Americana silhouettes and Japanese avant-garde graphics, Aphrodite welcome the newest additions to the Converse x Comme des Garcons PLAY collections.

Rei Kawakubo founded the Japanese fashion house in 1969, with CDG collections challenging the status quo with their high-concept, ostentatious and daring designs ever since. Launched in 2002, the PLAY diffusion line aimed to harness the ‘against the grain’ nature of Kawakubo stylings and streamline them to capture a more high-street ready audience. With this came the birth of the iconic heart with eyes logo, designed by Polish artist Filip Pagowski. The graphics can now be found in various arrangements across different CDG pieces and in collaboration with fashion giants such as A Bathing Ape, KAWS, and of course, Converse.

A staple in the rotations of every man and his dog, it is for good reason that the Chuck Taylor ’70s have graced our feet for over a century now. The classic basketball silhouettes offer timelessly simple styling complimented by uncontended comfort. A sturdy high-street companion, crafted with lightweight cotton canvas, the supportive and resistant rubber soles hallmark the makings of the brand, with the founder of Converse; Marquis Mills Converse, creating his first pair of rubber soled shoes after falling down the stairs in a bid to prevent it from happening again!

It is indeed these very soles that steal the show in the newest editions of the 12-year Converse x CDG partnership, featured in a daring red colourway. Not only a devilishly bold design component, the soles of these trainers feature enhanced cushioning across the span of the insole, a feature synonymous with the Converse ‘comfort is key’ ethos.

The remainder of the shoe is pretty similar to previous editions of the partnership; off-white toe box, laces, exposed stitching, and of course, the iconic heart with eyes applique on the outer ankle. The only difference is that the symbol features in its entirety in this edition, a contrast to the ‘peek-a-boo’ styling of the partnership’s previous designs.

CDG SHIRT x Asics Gel-Lyte V Series

Springtime Adventures Lookbook

With Spring in full swing, we decided to take advantage of the gorgeous natural spaces around us. Testing out the likes of Stone Island, Carhartt and Veja, we threw some ‘fits together and went on a bit of a wander. Adidas and Parley relaunch the Ultraboost 1.0 DNA

Adidas and Parley are no stranger to a collaboration, with the two brands often teaming up to produce eco-friendly iterations of Adidas’s classic silhouettes. The latest model to receive a makeover is the Ultra boost 1.0 DNA., both Adidas and Parley have worked to produce a sustainable trainer that further enhances the brands efforts towards ending plastic waste.

The upper of the trainer is fabricated using at least 50% Parley ocean plastic, ensuring flexibility and breathability while on the go. The two-tone design of the upper enhances the aesthetic of the trainer while a black heel cage is elevated with the use of gold “ultra boost” branding. A translucent three stripes adds the famous Adidas branding to the shoe, as well as serving as the eyelets of the trainer.

Two-tone laces are used to tie the kicks, while thick padding to heel serves as a well needed support for running or everyday use. Using Adidas’s renowned ultra-boost sole, the shoe propels its wearer to their peak performance levels, as torsion bar technology allows for ergonomic, free movement on the foot. New Balance set to drop a commemorative 991 to celebrate 40 years of ‘Made in UK’

Celebrating 40 years of manufacturing the ‘Made in UK’ range.

Despite New Balance’s rapid growth in recent years, and subsequently a rapid increase in demand, the Boston based brand continue to produce their ‘Made in UK’ collection in their Flimby factory; Situated on the Cumbrian coastline, the factory relies on the skill of experienced local workers to produce almost 28,000 pairs of sneakers weekly. As testament to the quality of craftsmanship, and to celebrate the 40th anniversary of ‘Made in UK’, New Balance are gearing up to release a commemorative 991 colourway.

The New Balance 991 is arguably one of the brand’s most iconic models. Inspired by the Made in US 990 and the Made in UK 1500, the silhouette offers pure style and an unparalleled ‘dad sneaker’ aesthetic. Since its debut back in 2001, almost every 991 colourway has been produced in Flimby, maintaining the same expected standards and quality of the factory.

And the 40th anniversary 991 is no exception.

Dressed in a stunning, yet simple, grey colourway, this sneaker looks set to join a long line of sought after New Balance kicks. Pigskin suede makes up the toe-cap, side panelling and heel of the shoe while a mesh toe-box offers breathability to the sneaker. Leather beige detailing provides a pleasing contrast to the grey colour scheme, sprucing up the tongue, heel and toe-box of the kicks. Reflective patches can be found at the heel, where ‘991’ is neatly embroidered into the shoe, as well as making up the iconic ‘N’ New balance branding to the side of the shoe.

To the sole of the sneaks, ENCAP midsole cushioning combines lightweight foam with a durable polyurethane rim to deliver all-day support. C-Cap technology also provides support to the forefoot of the shoe while ABZORB crash pads absorb impact through a combination of cushioning and compression resistance. The two-tone paintjob adds to the overall style of the shoe while transparent windows show off the ABZORB pads found in the heritage kicks.

Reminders of the 40th anniversary are placed on the in-sole and the inside of the shoes tongue, as well as the aptly decorated commemorative box the kicks arrive in. Expected to launch on the 5th May, you’ll be able to get your hands on a pair at Aphrodite Clothing.

Adidas x Parley Drop A Sustainable Duo

Adidas and Parley are no stranger to a collaboration. Having previously delivered on a colourful rendition of the Ultra-boost 5.0, the two have teamed up once again, this time to put a spin on the classics. Revamping the iconic Stan Smith and Forum Low silhouettes, the duo have infused recycled materials and a crisp white colourway to create a clean (no pun intended) capsule collection.

Both styles are crafted using at least 50% Parley Ocean Plastic and 50% yarn made from recycled polyester, ensuring that you’ll own a truly eco-friendly pair of kicks. The Forum Low sees its distinctive strap dressed in woven black detailing and proudly presenting Adidas and Parley branding. The same detailing can be found at the heel of the shoe, while the mid-section of the Forum plays host to black trim and a trefoil logo. As always the three stripes synonymous with the brand take their place on the upper of the shoe.

The Stan Smith also possesses the unique woven black detailing to the heel. While an off white trim can be found at the eyelets and sole of the kicks, helping to break up the monotone feel. A perforated three stripes is located at the side of the shoes while “Endorsed by Stan Smith” is printed across the tongue.
