adidas’ long-running collaboration with Japanese design legend Yohji Yamamoto has been one of the most consistently fruitful pair-ups the fashion world has ever seen. Of all the diverse styles that the team has conjured up, the Qasa High and Stan Zip have often been the most sought-after, and with good reason; they combines adidas’ rich heritage of sportswear innovations with a uniquely futuristic design sensibility that translates perfectly to the streets of today.

The design is built around the distinctive sole unit lifted from the Three Stripes’ Tubular series, with its oversized, rounded profile, and this release is presented with double-knit textured mesh uppers in a wraparound fit, in a moody black and dark olive colourway with definite military vibes. Overlaid elastic straps provide extra support in areas that need it most, while smooth nubuck overlays appear to the toe and heel and laces provide extra foot lockdown. At the other end of the spectrum, the Stan Zip is a much more straightforward reworking of one of the best-selling trainers of all time, the adidas Stan Smith. This version keeps the iconic shape of the original mostly intact, but completely reworks the materials, coming in a tonal matte black colourway, with technical neoprene fabric uppers. The main selling point is the dual zips to the lacestays, that allow the entire lacing unit to be zipped away or fully removed if the wearer wants, leaving the sock-fit neoprene exposed. This opens the shoe up to a variety of different ways to wear, whether you love to experiment with the look of your shoes or keep things classic.

Y-3 Qasa High Release Info

The Y-3 Qasa High is re-imagined once again for Spring Summer 2017 with the release of this new sleek model. The style that helped mould so many subsequent sneakers is mostly a black tonal colourway for the exception of the geometric pattern that adorns the upper. Premium leather overlay panels sit on the toe cap and heel cup whilst the iconic elasticated wrapping takes centre stage on the upper. The shoe sits upon the obligatory tubular sole unit which aides even weight distribution. A sock-like design to the upper aides comfort whilst the lacing system can allow for a custom fit. Yohji Yamamoto embossed branding features to the forefoot whilst Y-3 branding accents the heel cap.

A closer look at the Y-3 Qasa High – Triple Black

The long standing collaboration between Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto and sportswear giants adidas has seen many years of roaring success. Since its conception in 2002, Y-3 has firmly cemented itself as a successful brand in its own right thanks to its fusion between fashionable aesthetics and functional sportswear design. From staple footwear designs like the Boxing and the Sprint to clothing that further reinforces the partnership of two contrasting worlds, Y-3 continues to impress with its unique interpretations.

Although Y-3 has always been a successful partnership, it recently introduced itself to the “sneakerhead” thanks to the design of the Y-3 Qasa High. A truly unique shoe that has since been the inspiration behind the adidas Originals Tubular Runner, the Qasa High’s distinct styling and superior comfort allowed the Y-3 brand to open itself to a whole new range of customers. Perhaps the most coveted colourway of the Qasa High is the Triple Black and it has been re-introduced for Autumn / Winter 2015.

Using an elasticated nylon material as a base, the Qasa stands out from the crowd thanks to the use of a plethora of straps that overlay the base to create a fitted shoe that wraps around the foot like a glove. Supporting this distinctive upper is an emphasised sole that bulges out of the shoe and is adorned with subtle Yohji Yamamoto detailing to the toe. Further branding can be found at the heel on a rubber panel and also at the lace lock with are shaped in a way to pay homage to adidas’ famous three stripe branding. Accents of leather can also be found on the Qasa High to inject a sense of luxuruy and give a true “high end” feel; even on this sport-inspired silhouette.

A unique piece of footwear design, the all black nature of this seasons Qasa High design defines the integration of each part of the shoe to create one whole substance. Y-3 Qasa High Returns For AW2015

Yohji Yamamoto and adidas set the sneaker world alight with the first release of the Y-3 Qasa High back in late 2013. Its innovative design coupled with the Y-3 branding saw it catapulted into the spotlight as the ‘must-have’ sneaker of the moment. Demand has not showed any signs of slowing for the Qasa High and the latest release is set to hit the shelves on 25 July 2015.

Incorporating a soft and lightweight neoprene upper, the Qasa High goes one step further by wrapping tonal elastic wraps in various angles to give the upper its unique appearance. Premium leather panels accent the neoprene upper and offset the RPU lacing system. The comfortable tubular EVA sole unit is designed to allow for even weight distribution and comfort and the recent success of the adidas Originals Tubular Runner which adopts the same design is testament to how effective it is.

Its design has influenced various styles of sneakers that have been released since and will always bee seen as a forward thinking shoe of its time.

This new interpretation sees the familiar neoprene upper with the tonal elasticated wraps accenting the upper. The colourway is what sets this new release apart from its predecessors as it adopts a highly contrasting red / black / white palette.
