Must Have Fred Perry Polo Shirts

Fred Perry Polo Shirts

Fred Perry is one of the most iconic British Heritage Brand that successfully blend street wear with sportswear, to give us the brand we all know and love today.

The Fred Perry Polo Shirt stems back to the 19th Century, where it was better known as the Tennis Shirt. This was due to Frederick John Perry who was a world famous tennis player who won 10 majors along with winning the title of World Number 1 for 4 years in a row. He then also went on to win Wimbledon 3 consecutive times, an achievement every British Tennis players most treasures, and as a result he wanted to create a shirt which was more fitted and easier to play in.

In the 1950’s, the launch of the most famous garment associated with Fred Perry took place, and we had the Slim Fit Cotton Pique Shirt. All Fred Perry garments from then on boast the famous Laurel Wreath Embroidery.

The Fred Perry Polo Shirt has been a staple for any man’s wardrobe for a number of years, and shows no sign of dwindling in any way in the near future. It is an everyday essential for any modern day man or woman. Season after season, the Fred Perry shirt is bang on trend, and no more so than the last few years. During the 1990’s the ‘Fred Perry Shirt was a British institution’, and this has carried on throughout the nighties into the naughties. The wearer wanted to show they were into style, not fashion, and the Laurel Wreath which was embroidered onto each and every Fred Perry Garment was s symbol for this. They didn’t want to put their name out there and sell itself as something it’s not, they wanted to reply solely on its timeless qualities to appeal to every generation, This is one of the main reasons Fred Perry is still one of the most loved British Heritage Brands and how it is still going strong 60 years on.
Over the years, a countless amount of celebrities have been known to wear the Fred Perry Wreath across their chest. During the 90’s band such as Oasis, Blur and Ocean Colour Scene boasted the Wreath, while today celebrities including ex footballer Vinnie Jones, actor Ewan McGregor, musicians Kelly Jones from the Stereophonics, Moby, Badly Drawn Boy and Olly Murs have all chosen the Fred Perry Shirt over other designer brands.
