How Does The Canada Goose Armstrong Hoody Fit?

While we’re on the topic of the jacket’s exterior appeal, it would be foolish to continue without mentioning its favourable fit. The Canada Goose Armstrong Hoody is built to retain heat through the utilisation of a bespoke cut and an assortment of functional features. These include drawstring adjustments at its hood, a zip-through closure and Recessed Power Stretch® cuffs with a thumbhole construction for keeping sleeves in place during activity.

Also to the exterior, two fleece-lined pockets sit either side of the coat’s waist for keeping your hands warm through cold days or for storing several of your everyday essentials. As well as these crucial compartments, a further set of interior pockets provide more storage for necessities, while one of them also allows the jacket to fold down and pack away into within a moment’s notice. Convenient or what?

To finish, adept and meticulous Canadian craftsmanship ensures every feature on the jacket is certified to the highest of standards, while the brand’s signature red disc logo completes the left arm with performance prestige.

adidas Originals x Artist Keiichi Tanaami

adidas Originals x Artist Keiichi Tanaami for Apparel Collection is available at Aphrodite.

adidas is no stranger to collaborations — after all, they changed the game with their Run-DMC co-sign back in the 80s — but lately they’ve been moving away from musicians and sports stars to tap into ideas from other disciplines, including modern artist Daniel Arsham, pro skater and illustrator Mark ‘Gonz’ Gonzales, and even Transport for London, the operators of the London Underground tube system. Continuing this curative approach to collaboration, this season the Herzogenaurach brand introduce their ‘Gallery Series’ of artist collabs from across the globe, with the first stop in Japan with pop artist Keiichi Tanaami.

Born in 1936 as the son of a Tokyo textile worker, Tanaami grew up in the aftermath of World War II, and translates a lot of his experiences into his psychedelic work, mixing bright American-influenced pop imagery with nightmarish monsters and mutations of familiar iconography. As a contemporary of Andy Warhol, Tanaami holds an eye for both artistic and commercial expressions, so the esteemed artist’s partnership with such a large entity as adidas makes perfect sense. The Three Stripes commissioned the collection alongside a gallery show at Tokyo’s NANZUKA, which showcased the artist’s expertise in multiple media, from large-format paintings to sculpture, all depicting the signature Trefoil logo in different interpretations and contexts.

The capsule collection of apparel – “wearable art”, as Tanaami puts it – continues in a similar vein, taking familiar adidas pieces and splicing them with Tanaami’s garish and discomforting characters, inserting them into the Trefoil to uncanny effect. Keeping the overall colour palette limited to black and white makes Tanaami’s creations stand out even more on pieces like the rugby shirt and classic hoodie, while keeping them safely in wearable territory.

A collaboration in the truest sense of the word, the Keiichi Tanaami for adidas Originals collection will be available instore and online from the 21st of March.

Third Times The Charm: Miles Kane x Fred Perry

Here in the UK we undeniably have some truly iconic sights. Things that make you pause for a moment and think you know what, despite the crap weather and grey mornings Britains not that bad. Big Ben, a good cup of tea, Sunday roast, Miles Kane in a Fred Perry polo shirt the list goes on. Well, if like us, the sight of The Last Shadow Puppets co-frontman clad in soft cotton pique, Laurel Wreath emblazoned on his chest inspires some bouts of patriotism then you’d better get the kettle on because there is much, much more than where that came from.

Following on from their two previous collaborative efforts, heavyweights Miles Kane and Fred Perry have stepped into the ring once again for another lesson in effortless styling with plenty of timeless Brit inspired edge and vintage appeal. Coming out swinging the pair deliver a selection of quality top half clobber perfect for when things begin to heat up and the oh so far away summer time arrives. Polo shirts are of course on the agenda with a variety of them on offer that both stay true to the traditional, much-loved design but with the usual tweaks and variations courtesy of Mr.Kane, including exaggerated ’70s style collars, elongated two-button plackets and crisp single gold stripe cuffing to the hems across hues of white, burgundy and royal blue. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves and in true British pessimism, the capsule collection features a substantial, textured, woven cotton t-shirt with a ribbed high neck and cuffs perfect for those chilly in-between months.

Miles Kane Fred Perry Polo Shirt

If this capsule collection was a live performance than the floral print fabric courtesy of the renowned Liberty London would be that song that you can’t quite get out of your head. Placed subtly to the underside of one of the polo shirts hidden button placket the fabric can also be found not so subtly across a short sleeve, revere collar shirt. Finished with the usual gold, slightly modified laurel wreath embroidered logo the shirt conjures up some serious suave sophistication, perfect for stepping out on those cool evenings abroad when the swim shorts get swapped out for a crisp pair of chinos.

Rounding off the retro-inspired capsule collection is the full-button up, colour blocked cardigan. Similar to the double acts previous collaboration when Miles described the cardigan as something from Goodfellas, the knitwear piece this time comes dressed in a black and white ensemble, with a cotton-viscose blend construction for a flowing, comfortable fit. Thanks to the addition of ribbing to the cuffs and hem the piece retains a strong silhouette and is finished with the same slightly larger collar and you guessed it a gold laurel wreath.

The best thing about these collaborations – aside from the very nice clothes – is how natural and organic they feel. Having been a long time fan of the Fred Perry for years, Miles brings with him a swagger and attitude that compliments Fred Perry’s rich history and cultural significance perfectly. It feels like Miles is designing clothes he would want to wear and you can see the enthusiasm and passion for each project through the quality of the end product.

The latest Fred Perry x Miles Kane collection is available both in store and online Now.

Evolution Of The Nike Logo

The humble tick, that you prayed would appear in red pen on the bottom of your essay, has had a different meaning since 1971, as it has been at the forefront of a little brand in the sportswear industry you may of heard of. The Nike Swoosh now has to be one of the most recognisable logos on this little blue planet.

This global heavyweight was founded in 1964 by Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman. Bowerman was a running coach from Portland always striving for a better performance from his track and field students, and in his spare time was working on improving their shoes. Bowerman was obsessed with shaving weight off his athletes running shoes, after all a bad workman will blame his tools. Knight was a middle distance runner who went into partnership with Bowerman to create Blue Ribbon Sports, the name doesn’t quite roll of the tongue does it?

In 1971, Carolyn Davidson a graphic design student, becomes a big factor in the brand gaining the identity it has now. She was sat in a hall, with a empty purse wishing she could afford to take a class, when she was then approached by accounting professor Phil Knight about freelance graphic work for his company. BRS then decided to branch out and launch their own brand of football shoe, called the Nike.

Knight asked Davidson to help him design a stripe or a logo for the side panel of his athletic shoes. Nike’s namesake the Greek Goddess of victory, is the main inspiration behind the logo, as her wings represented movement and speed. Over 17 and a half hours were spent on the design, and she invoiced a mere $35 for the logo, that has stood the test of time.

Davidson sketched her designs onto tissue paper, so she could place them over a shoe drawing, to see if the logo could look clean and classic. The Swoosh is created with two smooth curved lines, to enforce the onomatopoeia of the slick motion.

Knight half-heartedly selected the logo saying “I don’t love it, but it will grow on me”

The logo got a refreshing update in 1978, Nike opted for a bolder, all-caps font and a slight re-positioning of the Swoosh. The Swoosh  has went on to become one of the most iconic images in the world, so much that in 1995 the company chose to remove the brand name of the original design, leaving the Swoosh as the sole symbol of the company.

Possibly The Best Fight Club In Britain – Backed By Anthony Joshua

Have you been looking for a new gym where you will be put through your paces every session instead of playing on your phone while you wait for a machine for 30 minutes?

Well we have just the thing, let us introduce you to BXR.

You have all heard of Anthony Joshua right? Well this is his new ‘passion project’ – A brand new boutique boxing concept gym that has set the bar sky high for other gyms to follow. Launched in January 2017, BXR is the world’s first high end boxing themed gym, dedicated to developing a championship mindset – and as they say, mind over matter. Set in Marylebone, W1, the gym offers a wide variety of services including a range of combat disciplines, strength and conditioning, circuit training, group classes along with clinic treatments, with boxing disciplines at its entire core.

Anthony Joshua Gym

GQ recently had the opportunity to take part in an intensive 2-month training course at BXR, giving an in-depth look at the gym, its facilities and what it has to offer. Safe to say, we are impressed here at the Aphrodite Offices.

The first thing you’ll notice about the “Anthony Joshua” gym, otherwise known as BXR, is the potent smell of leather and aftershave that circulates the sleek space. Split over two floors and decked out in dark wood, the vibe is more gentlemen’s club than gym. The walls downstairs are adorned with a mammoth TV and plenty of cool art, including a particularly eye-catching shot of Emily Ratajkowski. It’s here you’ll find Sweat By BXR, a set of three pay-to-train studios concentrating on boxing skills, strength and conditioning and cardio respectively, and the in-house clinic

While this gym maybe a little too far away for many to make after work, we sure enjoyed the article. Read the full article over at GQ or browse some of our handpicked gym essentials below.

Norse Projects AW15 Lookbook

Norse Projects AW15

The timeless designs of Norse Projects once again head our way for the Autumn Winter 2015 season. The Scandinavian creative studio have released their AW15 lookbook featuring a range of products that at their core are minimal and simplistic and have taken on elements of nature in their design.

For inspiration, the collection leans towards the works of Vilhelm Hammershøi, a Danish painter who included nature, interior and architecture in his work. Norse Projects have been careful to use an array of muted hues rather than opt for bold colours, similar to that of Hammershøi’s work.

Take a look at the photographs from their official lookbook before. Our first shipments of Norse Projects have started landing so keep an eye out for them appearing on the website whilst the first pieces are available in-store now.
