Stone Island Shadow Project Scarabeo Down Jacket

Since 2008, Stone Island have collaborated with ACRONYM® designer and techwear visionary Errolson Hugh on the Shadow Project diffusion line, with each party leveraging their respective strengths — Stone Island’s textile development expertise and Hugh’s meticulously futuristic eye for detail — to create uniquely urban garments without compromise. Now, for their 10 Years collection, the collective has turned a decade of experience back on their archive and reworked some classic pieces in all-new fabrication, including this Down Parka in the dazzling Scarabeo fabric.

Based on the natural iridescent properties of certain species of beetle, Scarabeo is a single-layer fabric that packs in a great deal of the technological marvels that made Stone Island’s name. Combining reflective, iridescent and printed properties, the fabric is coated in microscopic glass beads which provide a dynamic range of colours in motion, upon which is then printed a graphic geometric pattern. The printed areas omit the reflected light, provide three-dimensional contrast to the surface of the fabric. The effect is subtle during the day, but really comes to life in a brilliant fashion in low-light scenarios; this is not a piece for the shy, retiring type. Not only does the fabric look good, but it is highly wearable due to its weather and stain resistant properties.

The Down Jacket itself leverages these properties perfectly, adding to their resistance with a generous down fill for exceptional warmth. One of the Shadow Project’s more conventional designs, the Down Parka boasts a detachable hood with a further detachable visor for customisable protection and looks, with a substantial moleskin lining for luxurious comfort. Featuring plenty of pockets as expected of the brand, the coat is finished with the signature black-out nylon Compass Badge to the left sleeve, which can be detached and buttoned within the jacket on a commemorative woven 10 Years label.

This stand-out piece is available in extremely limited numbers both in-store and online at Aphrodite Clothing now.

Stone Island ‘Industrial Strength’

In keeping with the industrial strength direction of their FW18 collection ‘Icon Imagery’, this unlikely pairing of navy and yellow pieces are almost uniform-like, and we like it a lot! From its inception, Navy has been synonymous with uniform, from marine blue to its adoption as navy blue the colour has itself included in military wear to workwear, finding itself as the go-to base colouring of high vis uniforms.

Instantly the combo colouring of the knit jumper evokes the utilitarian designs of the working uniform, emboldening the compass chest piece to aid a more physically striking aesthetic. With the modular nature of Stone Island, It’s not hard to bring two monochromatic base outfits into one singular colour blocked design with the mix of base and outer layers displayed.

Famed for their unique fabrication and garment dye process, the Lamy nylon featured here in the olive flock jacket and below in navy flock shell, is bonded to an adhesive film using a magnetic field technique. They aren’t messing around when it comes to waterproofing, and why not look as stylish as possible whilst doing so.

The ‘Tiger Pack’ with stand out all over white tiger print is perfect for layering with more subdued colourways like this overshirt in Ice. The tiger design is a continuation of last season’s camo collection. Here’s what we said:

Unadopted from an existing camouflage (unlike the designs of the Polish alligator camo) the White Tiger collection doesn’t function to conceal the wearer as it does to display Stone Island’s incredible garment printing ability. The swirling black on white camo with gold-flecked detailing takes on existing proportions of the tiger stripe camo that has been adopted across many a different nation. Symbolising an incoming drop of snowy proportions, the tiger camo is an ironically surefire way to stand out from the crowd with its beastly design.

The Hunter: Stone Island White Tiger Camo Collection

There is no off switch on a tiger

– German proverb

Following on from the bold military heritage of SS/18s Alligator camo, Stone Island is treating AW/18 to a tantalising drop of the White Tiger camo collection.

Stone Island Set The Tone, Style and Then Some

When the temperature starts to drop, that’s when Italian sportswear maestros Stone Island really start to come into their own: the lightweight nylons and cotton twills of summer make way for more interesting fabrics from the brand’s laboratories. Case in point: this military-inspired jacket made from a Lamy Flock fabric. Starting with a plain-weave nylon fabric, the cloth is laminated to an adhesive film, through which a magnetic field is passed, which attracts a layer of nylon fibrils to build up a velvety, flocked finish to the reverse face. This process not only adds structure and dimension to the fabric, it also has the added benefit of providing extra warmth for the wearer, ideal for the chillier days.

The jacket itself is the kind of garment that Stone Island excels at: a versatile, zip-fastening layer with added detailing drawn from the brand’s vast archives of vintage militaria and sportswear; those shoulder reinforcements, for instance, are a detail you’re unlikely to find anywhere else. Coming in a rich metallic ‘Ink’ colour, the jacket is, of course, finished with the signature detachable Compass badge to the left sleeve.

If it’s a heavy duty approach you prefer for the upcoming harshest of conditions, never fear as Stone Island have brought their David TC fabric back for a double bill of military-inspired field jackets. Both Jackets, in their Mustard and Black respectively, boast two large snap-flap pockets with zipped handwarmers secluded away on the jackets, plus a shaped hood with removable melton wool liner to guarantee warmth to all upper appendages, in part thanks to the PrimaLoft® insulation material. It’s the staple dye process for the Italian maestros, with both jackets facing construction via sewing and then a garment dye. The David TC fabric is ultimately a progressive polyester. With an application of advanced heat treatment and an anti-drop finish, the fabric is given a unique design and unbeatable technical capabilities.

The Stone Island Lamy Flock Jacket and David TC Field Jackets are available in-store and online now from Aphrodite Clothing. Keep your eyes on our social media feeds for all the latest Stone Island drops for the new season as they happen.

Kind of Blue: Summer Shirts Edition

Welcome reader. Relax, take a seat, and press play on our summer shirt feature. Drink? We thought you’d never ask.

Short Sleeves

The sight of a short sleeve blue shirt strikes fear into a number of men and with justification. It can be a divisive affair, more pie guzzling than Ryan Gosling, but don’t fret we’re here to help!

Paul Smith – Light Blue
For menswear, there are certain brands you can guarantee to provide a simple and effective design British sensibilities. The highest of our priced short sleeves but fitted perfectly off the peg for all body types. Small details like a contrasting top button, logo tab to pocket and stripe details to the side seams give the shirt unique embellishments to push it away from its contemporaries.
Ralph Lauren – Deep Blue
Although your token blue shirt is a light blue number, this deep blue creation from the Polo brand is a versatile offering that can work in casual and more formal designs with it’s contrasting blue offering a foil to most staple formalwear palettes. Crafted from a featherweight twill fabric, this is perfect as a summer shirt to air it all out.
Fred Perry Oxford – Mid Blue
Offering a perfect middle ground to the above offerings, this mid-blue oxford offering from the laurel wreath is casual wear through and through with button-down collar, box pleat and contrasting locker loop to the rear of the shirt.

Striped

For all you men in blazers, this is the section for you. Honestly, the next time you lean those elbow patches on the bar to talk about the footsie 100, you won’t look like a Richard.

Comme des Garçons SHIRT Fine Stripe – Blue
Clean cut, no-nonsense, and surprisingly not an eccentric offering from Comme De Garçons shirts. Show your fashion awareness with the Japanese brand’s best in men’s formal attire taking an eloquent approach to the men’s striped shirt.
APC – Stripe Blue / Ecru
Kings of French cool, APC bring a minimalist contemporary air to every seasonal offering from the brand, and it’s a consistent presenting in this striped shirt with a cream and blue mix in its colouring. A timeless approach to a timeless item.
Ralph Lauren Gingham – Blue / White
This typically preppy garment might not be striped per se, but it fits our agenda and you’ve gotten this far so why should you care, this shirt is too nice to kick up a fuss.

Hawaiian

Pigeonholing this in as it’s our only Hawaiian that fits the criteria, and it’s not really a Hawaiian at that, more a box fit, box fresh, punching above its weight, casual commando in the fashion field.

Oliver Spencer Hawaiian Shirt – Blue
You see why we included this now, right? Relaxed boxy fit, soft fabric composition, multi-button collar options, it’s a swiss army knife in a shirt.

Chambray

The carbon fibre of the blue shirt world, the chambray is you high performing supercar in your wardrobe. More of a Tesla in Aesthetic than a Bugatti, it’s what’s under the hood that counts, and the chambray is packing some serious power.

APC – Blue
This genuinely might be the greatest shirt ever made in the history of the greatest shirts ever made. APC has the uncanny knack of knocking every garment out of the metaphorical park of quality, and this Japanese cotton clad chambray is a year-round killer.
Ralph Lauren – Chambray Denim
Dyed with indigo and stonewash to create a denim blue complexion it’s ‘Murica in a classy chambray design, embracing the denim colour to great effect on a casual and lightweight design. Pair with more denim for the authentic rawhide look.
Norse Projects Anton Chambray – Light Indigo
Norse Projects have the uncanny ability to nail the a-typical stylings of any staple garment with their Scandinavian minimalist air. When we’re eventually able to 3d print objects by verbal demand, the scream of ‘Alexa, Chambray Shirt’ will yield this exact design.

Oxford

Even the word ‘Oxford’ connotes a world of regal, timely gentlemen and women oozing the aroma of books and rich mahogany, taking the bimmer out for a spin to the local shop to pick up a box of earl grey in anticipation of afternoon tea and scones.

Ralph Lauren Oxford – Blue
It’s hard to offer a shirt selection without omitting Ralph Lauren, they’ve dominated the preppy shirt creation since the dawn of man (that’s a fact). Does what it says on the tin etc.
Norse Projects Anton Oxford – Navy
Take the previous piece on the Anton Chambray and replace the c-word with Oxford. Consistency.
Fred Perry Oxford – Light Smoke
To be honest, as much as I love oxford shirts, they’re just the same thing with a different logo. You cannot go wrong with the selection at hand (Unless you don’t buy any).

Overshirts

The book ender of sorts, a good overshirt (or shacket if you’re so inclined) is the layering item you need in your arsenal. Add it to a summer wardrobe for a lightweight layer and throw it under a big coat for the winter lets focus on summer for now though.

Stone Island Overshirt – Blue
Current kings of the overshirt, Stone Island place their tech sensibilities on a metallic nylon overshirt. Fastening to the front, with a statement crinkle effect and supremo construction courtesy of the Italian maestros.
Paul Smith Zip Shirt – Denim
Combining the shirt and a zip with great aplomb is the dark indigo iteration in the Paul Smith zip shirt. Featuring twin patch pockets to the chest and buttoned cuffs, it’s a typically subtle affair from the rainbow man, offering the classic British fashion sensibilities with a contemporary air.
APC Denim Jacket – Washed Indigo
This is literally, at the fundamental of it all, a blue shirt, that fact cannot be disputed. It’s a blue shirt you wear over things, like an overshirt. Therefore it deserves being placed in our ‘kind of blue’ overshirts section. Plus it also happens to be a denim jacket, therefore, you can wear with any of the above items and it’ll look crispy.

How To Take Your Stone Island Sweatshirt From Day To Night

You might be wondering how you can get the most out of your Stone Island sweatshirt. If so, keep reading for the ultimate style guidance.

The Stone Island sweatshirt is a versatile piece that can be transformed to fit in with a low-key or smart outfit. This season we have a range of different colour-ways available in the sweatshirt, so it’s worth investing in a few of them to add classic style to your wardrobe.

Dress down

Stone Island Sweatshirt

It’s easy to give your sweatshirt a casual look with the garment being quite relaxed. We’ve decided to style the sweatshirt with a pair of Stussy joggers for a neutral contrast of colour combined with ultimate comfort. When looking for trainers to go with the look, you have two choices. Stick with some textile/sporty styles such as Nike or New Balance. If you want to give your casual outfit a luxe feel, add a pair of Maison Margiela leather Replica trainers.

Dress up

If you thought you couldn’t dress up a sweatshirt for a night out, think again. There are many ways for you to make the sweatshirt a smart essential. In this case, the sweatshirt is enough to make a statement with the iconic Stone Island detachable badge. For a contemporary look, pair with some chino style trousers from Folk. The chinos combined with the sweatshirt create a relaxed silhouette, but still, give that smart element. When it comes to shoes, the Sneaker 1 in white by Grenson will complete the outfit perfectly with a full leather upper and casual lace-up fastening.

Steal His Style: Drake

Drake’s style evolution has been a widely discussed subject. For the past few months, we have seen the Canadian rapper decked out in Stone Island, Nike, Adidas and of course his own brand OVO (October’s Very Own). He’s worth $100 million and one of the most famous musicians in the world, so why would you not want to dress like him?

When he wore the Moncler Maya jacket in his 2015 video Hotline Bling, the jacket sales soared, indicating that Drake is a huge style inspiration among the masses. According to an article on High Snobiety, a Moncler spokesperson said the Maya jacket had doubled in sales since the video release. Since wearing Moncler, Drake’s style archive has vastly grown. He’s known to favour the occasional piece of Stone Island, you only need to look at his Instagram to see just how much he wears it. It’s strange to think that a brand that has been for years famously associated with British youth culture is now on the backs of the most famous US rappers, (Travis Scott and Kendrick Lamar have also been seen donning the Italian brand). Recently Drake has been sporting casual style, kicking back in a pair of Adidas three stripe joggers and a neutral hoody.

Drake in Stone Island

Photo from realclobber.com

Drake takes streetwear to a new level, mixing simple tees and jeans with baggy silhouettes, layering denim jackets over hoodies and oversized checked shirts to give a whole new vibe. His simplistic look is sometimes vamped up with his range of Stone Island. Only recently he posted a photo of himself in a scarlet red Stone Island corduroy style shirt. A few weeks back we saw a whole new side to Drake as he stepped out in a tailored style coat, trousers and Chelsea style boots.

Find out how you can steal Drake’s style below.
