Despite only having been founded in 2010, Alexandre Mattiussi’s Ami brand has become a mainstay in wardrobes of some of the world’s most stylish men. Formerly a creative at high fashion houses Givenchy and Dior, Mattiussi brought his training to bear on his own label with his attention to detail, cuts and fabrics, but designed for the everyday man who wants to look and feel both comfortable and stylish.
This philosophy is felt throughout his collection, from the relaxed cut trousers to the crisp white shirts with playful embroidery, but is perhaps best embodied in Ami’s embrace of the humble sweatshirt. Formerly a staple of slouchy athletic wear, Mattiussi has incorporated the jersey sweatshirt into his collection from the beginning, updating it with a premium loopback fabric and Portuguese construction.
Detailing is suitably striking, with the tricolour AMI logo appearing as a textured terrycloth applique in both ‘big’ and ‘small’ versions depending on how bold you want to go. Other versions include the playing card-inspired ‘Ami de Coeur’ logo embroidered to the chest for a more subtle finish, but all are cut in a not-too-tight, not-too-loose fit for the perfect medium between smart and casual, resulting in a surprisingly versatile transitional garment.

Everyone’s new fashion friend, AMI Pairs offers a blend of sophistication, minimalism and high-quality pieces with a fun Parisian twist.
Paris may be the city of love, but it’s also the city of fashion. The Ami brand was launched in 2011 by designer Alexandre Mattiussi. Mattiussi had previously been tailor trained at Dior, Givenchy and Marc Jacobs before starting his own brand. The designer launched his first brand, also named AMI in 2002 designing shirts and t-shirts which were sold in Hong Kong and New York which were popular. However, Mattiussi soon closed the brand after it became too much to manage. When the label became established for the second time it became an instant favourite among editors and buyers with its contemporary pieces.
Created in Paris and inspired by this city ever since, AMI Paris offers stylish and comprehensive collections for men and women, blurring the boundaries between casual and chic. The name AMI is the French word for friend and is also the initials of Alexandre Mattiussi. While Paris pays homage to the county Mattiussi was born in, and where the brand takes inspiration from in their designs. AMI Pairs captures a particular type of the French capital’s nonchalance, one that is relaxed, authentic and friendly.
Mattiussi and AMI Paris have risen to the top of men’s fashion over the last decade, quickly becoming a staple of men’s fashion. Mattiussi was the first male designer to win an ANDAM award in 2013, an award that recognises emerging talent in the fashion industry. The brand’s identity is making sophisticated and contemporary staple garments with a fun Parisian twist. Offering a range of classic AMI sweatshirts, shirts and knitwear that feature the brand’s typography with clean, minimal designs that are crafted to the highest standard, making for a perfect combination that the modern man needs. The AMI Pairs brand has collaborated with different brands for collections over the years, including fellow French brand Moncler and fashion giants GAP. AMI x Moncler was an all-French affair of producing a collection revisiting classics of the men’s wardrobe. Oversized topcoats, gilets and knitwear were created for the collection and AMI Paris’s mark was seen clearly on the collection. Mattiussi stuck to what he knows best, producing minimalistic pieces which were of the highest quality, comfortable clean line designs. The fusion of the two brands saw Moncler’s trademark padded outerwear, remixed with Ami’s Paris’s Parisian streetwear signature, with oversized cuts, shearling trims, chunky white zips all finished in colours synonymous with AMI Pairs of red, white and blue.
