Maison Margiela Sneakers | Latest Drop | Available Now

For those in the know, the Maison Margiela Replica sneaker is the very definition of a modern classic: inspired by a purely functional trainer used by the German army in the 70s, the Replica uses the finest Italian craftsmanship and premium leathers to elevate the silhouette to a luxurious footwear option for any casual outfit. Forming the basis of the core Margiela  footwear collection, the Replica sneaker returns to Aphrodite once again this season, along with two new additions to our lineup: the Mid Top and Retro Runner sneakers.

The Mid-Top sneaker is a brand new style for this season, a minimal take on classic moccasin styles merged with a skate influence. The uppers are crafted from luxurious calf leather and suede with hidden elasticated gussets for a comfortable fit, while square leather laces are looped through the ankle for extra support, all sat atop a solid rubber sole unit. Butter-soft leather linings and a cushioned insole finish off this ultra-premium sneaker.

The Retro Runner is part of the same family as the Replica sneaker, sharing similar detailing to the original but translated into a rugged vintage trail running silhouette, with mixed leather, suede and mesh uppers, cushioned foam midsole and a cleated Italian rubber outsole for superior grip. The materials, construction and comfort are all top-notch as to be expected, and the chunky profile of the shoe is ideal for pairing with slim or cuffed trousers for a stylish look.

Finally, the iconic Replica Sneaker itself returns in three all-new colourways: tonal black and white options, along with a 70s-inspired light blue and gum makeup that would be perfect to keep aside until the warmer months. All feature the usual Italian calf leather uppers with suede overlays to the toe, heel and sides, solid rubber soles and woven cotton laces, and are finished with typically low-key branding, simply displaying the iconic Margiela label to the tongue.

All these new styles are available at Aphrodite Clothing now, alongside our full range of Maison Margiela clothing, footwear and accessories.

Grenson – Stylist’s Picks Autumn Winter 2017

In Grenson’s long and enriched history since the 1800s, they have became the benchmark for producing the highest quality in leather footwear in the industry, and are still striving in being the crème de la crème.
Grenson have been making shoes continuously since 1866 and they are only in our third factory in all of that time, and that has been based in Northamptonshire. With Northampton’s historic cattle market it has been the hub of providing a ready supply of fine leather for the local workshops. So with that fruitful heritage, we know that they are a brand that will be here for the long haul. We thought we should treat you all to a look at our stylist’s top picks, as after all it is nearly the festive period.
One of our favourite pieces this season has to be the iconic Fred boot. With the classic Grenson Archie brogue being an essential piece of footwear for every formal occasion imaginable. I mean how can you not lust after the Fred boot; the Archie’s taller sibling, that has successfully been bridging the gap between formal-wear and smart casual. The key features to this sturdy boot are its oversized brogue punch-holes to the tan calf leather upper sat upon a Goodyear welt leather sole. With the Goodyear welt often cited as a hallmark of well-made shoes, this is yet another string to Fred’s bow.

The Grenson Fred Boot in Tan are available here for £239.00

As Sir Hardy Amies once said “It’s totally impossible to be well-dressed in cheap shoes” and by George he was right. The Grenson Triple Welt Archie Brogues in Mahogany, takes out a big felt tip pen and firmly ticks that well dressed box. Since we are not shy in showing our passion for our home-grown brands, we love that this brogue has been finely crafted in the Grenson factory in Northamptonshire. These brogues have been produced from ‘skin to box’ within the English factory, and are an exquisite example of fine British craftsmanship. (If you haven’t already check out when we saw the process first hand over on our youtube channel)  The key features of these essential party shoes are their massive triple sole that been given the durable edge with its triple welt construction.

The Grenson Archie Brogues in Mahogany are available here for £429.00

Finally our third stylist’s pick is the fresh faced Grenson Sneaker 1 in White. With Grenson serving its country in the Great War by producing thousands of boots and shoes for the soldiers, stepping into the sneakers market was big leap for the brands. They may be new kids of the block when it comes to sneakers, but their wealth of knowledge when it comes to premium leather means they are for sure not falling short. The Sneaker 1 has been based on a super clean 70’s tennis shoe and crafted from luxury calf leather sat upon an Italian white rubber sole.

The Grenson Sneaker 1 in White are available here for £149.00

Grenson’s key pieces wouldn’t look out of place down at your local boozer or on a wedding dance floor one of the many reasons we can not get enough of this British heritage brand. This brand is just crying out for you to use the shoes emojis on your #grams!!
We were scratching our heads on how we could select only a handful of our favourite pieces from the range. The autumn winter Grenson collection is now available online prices ranging from £149.00 to £435.00.

Vivienne Westwood Autumn/Winter 2017 | The Edit

A stalwart of the British fashion scene since the 1970s, Vivienne Westwood once again delivers a solid collection for Autumn/Winter 2017. Comprising classic menswear staples both casual and formal, Westwood imbues the collection with her own idiosyncratic twists, from exaggerated suiting proportions to whimsical hand-stitched embroidery, not to mention politically-charged graphics, all the while maintaining the punk spirit her work is renowned for.

The major theme of this collection, as with a lot of Westwood’s recent work, is climate change, and the impact that has – and should be having – on our shopping choices. Utilising fine, natural materials like organic, undyed cotton and virgin wool, the ethos is ‘Buy less, choose well, make it last’: the idea that investing in these timeless, luxurious pieces will limit consumption and reduce the environmental impact on the planet. The standout tailoring and formal topcoats embody this ideology perfectly, crafted with the signature detailing expected from Westwood and designed to stand the test of time and serve the wearer well for years to come, and goes to show just how many different ways there are to be a conscious consumer.

Elsewhere, the collection presents a range of t-shirts, polos and shirts to form the basis of a quality capsule wardrobe, all bearing the iconic Westwood Orb logo and directional detailing like elongated hems, drop shoulders and extended button plackets, elevating them far beyond the basics.

The Vivienne Westwood Autumn/Winter 2017 collection is available now at Aphrodite Clothing.
