Parajumpers Brand Guide

Parajumpers : Brand Guide

An Italian designer, the Alaskan 210th Rescue Squadron and designing clothes to help save lives. The true story behind the fashion brand Parajumpers …

Brand recon

After an inspired chance meeting with a member of the Alaskan 210th Rescue Squadron designer, Massimo Rossetti founded Parajumpers in 2006. The Parajumpers rescue squadron is among the best trained and equipped units in the US Army. Preparing, planning and carrying out rescues in the wildest and most remote corners of the planet. The brave men and women of the 210th rescue Squadron are the definition of courage, using their skills and knowledge to save lives.  The entire brand was inspired by the rescue squadron with the brand also sharing their motto of “These Things We Do, That Others May Live.”

Brand Identity

Inspired by Parajumpers, to be worn by Parajumpers.  Massimo Rossetti’s challenge was to design clothes that not only look great and unique but more importantly are functional to the Parajumpers. One of Rossetti’s first pieces was a jacket based around a fireman’s uniform, which included a pocket large enough to hold a helmet inside. This theme continues throughout the development of the Parajumpers with oversized cargo pockets and the large removable metal hooks found on most Parajumpers jackets. Parajumper’s unique idea of making the practical items on the clothes their main design feature is the key. The story behind Parajumpers and what / who they stand for,  is the authenticity that makes the brand unique and so popular.

Backstory & Construction:

Based on the mantra ‘that others may live’, in 2005 Parajumpers was launched by Massimo Rosseti – a fully-fledged design veteran in the outerwear realm. Inspired by a chance meeting with a serving member of the Alaskan 210th Rescue Squadron, Rosseti set about curating a functional jacket collection that truly pushed the boundaries of innovation.

Taking reference from the extreme rescue and recovery missions that the dedicated men and women of the 210th Rescue Squadron undertake, Parajumpers jackets are tailor made for unpredictable conditions and far-flung destinations across the globe.

The Parajumpers Right Hand jacket is particularly suited to inclement weather and the construction can prove it. Made from a robust nylon oxford fabric, its exterior has undergone a special treatment that makes it both dirt and rain resistant while also boasting inner lamination for enhanced protection. Taped seams at the hood, shoulders and armholes further increase its will to withstand heavy wind and rain.

With a fill rating of 700, the silhouette is superlatively thermal and is formulated with a ratio of 90% down and 10% feathers (sourced responsibly as a byproduct) and although many factors can determine an individual’s need for insulation, this jacket has a certified Parajumpers temperature rating of 3 which is considered very high and wholly appropriate for colder climates. Aspects which may affect internal heat production include – activity levels – such as climbing – and strong, high-speed winds.

Trimmed with a coyote fur ruff sourced from Canada, which can be detached based on your own personal preference, the Right Hand jacket comes detailed with an assortment of pocket space, comprising a roomy cargo pocket that’s lined with mesh, two cosy handwarmer pockets, a secure interior pocket and a zippered sleeve pocket residing with pride next to the iconic PJS patch.

Signed off with the Parajumpers signature – the famous and highly technical snap-hook neck for a fully functional feel – the garment’s completed with faux shearling at the inner collar for an ultra soft finish on the skin while ribbed cuffs work to lock in essential heat on the arms.

Parajumpers Fit & Sizing:

  • The Parajumpers Right Hand jacket currently runs in size M – XXL at Aphrodite.
  • We recommend selecting your usual size in this silhouette as it is deemed a regular fit.

Garment Care:

Although machine washable – where you can, we would avoid running this jacket through the washing machine as it can affect the even distribution of the down internally. Instead, buff subtle marks by hand on the outer.

Alternative:

The Gobi jacket by Parajumpers is cheaper than the Right Hand at a price of £775. Visually, this alternative is almost a carbon copy of the Right Hand jacket, however, it runs slightly shorter at the hem – sitting directly on the hips unlike its counterpart which resides further down. Available in black and bush green colourways, it’s part of the brand’s Masterpiece collection and is designed to take on the harshest outdoor excursions.

Available now in-store and online at Aphrodite, the Parajumpers Right Hand jacket is £839.
