Stussy Spring/Summer Collection

Stussy Brings Familiar Influences to Spring/Summer Collection

Streetwear stalwarts Stussy have always drawn from their home turf of Laguna Beach for inspiration; specifically, the artists, skate kids and surfers that inhabit the California locale. Less concerned with fashion than with projecting a level of tribal awareness for whichever subculture or crew they might roll with, thrift shops and surplus stores were the go-to spots to replace the latest shredded sweatshirt or pair of trousers. Stussy’s latest collection captures this effortless spirit to perfection, combining a wealth of influences to create something quintessentially Stussy, which we’ve highlighted in our latest photo editorial, shot on location in that most laid-back of locales: the laundrette.

Vintage-style sweatshirts and hoodies — in looser, period-appropriate fits — form the core of the collection, boasting graphics and embroidery inspired by everything from thrifted varsity sweats to old motorsports memorabilia. Sticking with the preppy theme, wide striped rugby shirts also make an appearance, cementing their spot as one of the best layering pieces a man can have in his wardrobe: a bit smarter than a sweatshirt, but more robust than a polo, the rugby shirt is the perfect workhorse for the transitional months.

Keeping things versatile for the warmer weather, the outerwear includes a deep indigo coverall jacket in heavy canvas and a pullover ripstop track top in a bold, 90s-style colourway. Running the gamut of collegiate style, sportswear and vintage workwear, this is one of the Stussy’s most eclectic, yet wearable collections yet.

The standout piece is the aforementioned coverall jacket. A staple of American workwear for decades, the jacket’s ready availability, hardwearing construction and utilitarian look have made it a menswear favourite, and this version is one of the best we’ve seen. Subtly differentiated from the originals with a more robust fabric, contrasting stitching and a printed Stussy Stock logo to the chest, the jacket is the perfect throw-on piece for any time of year.

California Cool With Stussy

Rewind to the early 80’s and slap on that sun-cream on Laguna Beach, California, back to when Shawn Stussy was shaping surfboards and adorning them with unique graphics that attracted a dedicated fan base. (If you want to delve more into the brand’s history check out our Stussy brand guide)

Stussy Jamaica T-Shirt

Don’t hit the sun cracked pavements without adorning one of Stussy’s bold graphic-emblazoned classic pieces. Yet again this season, they are taking a sharp diversion from that iconic angular graffiti scrawl. One of our favourite new prints has to be the Jamaica tee – bring on that sun.

Stussy Rugby Shirt

One of the standout pieces from this season’s collection has to be the Jonah Rugby Shirt. We love the contrasting striped panelling used throughout the heavy weight jersey construction, giving off retro Frankenstein vibes. The bold hues give this piece its statement piece title.
Stussy Spring Summer
Don’t worry you don’t have to be a pro boarder (sea or land) to pull off the iconic streetwear brand, you can use the graphic tees to enhance your off duty look. Like the long sleeved Stussy t-shirt in salmon, can be styled under your favourite Flight Jacket and paired with your favourite pair chinos, topped off with a bold pair of kicks like the Reebok Club C 85 Trainers

Outfit - Pastels and prints

Outfit – Pastels and patterns

Our growing streetwear collection consists of some of your favourite brands and with the fashion genre quite possibly being at is most eclectic yet it was no surprise to see this season’s trends having an element of ‘clash’. With pastels, stripes and of course the relentless camo making prominent appearances we thought we’d throw something together to remind you it doesn’t have to be one or the other anymore.

Stussy, Penfield, Vans and Eastpak

Its all about the clash, outfit features black corduroy trousers by Nudie Jeans, striped colour block rugby shirt by Stussy, pink cotton coach jacket by Penfield, camo print waist bag by Eastpak and suede trainers by Vans.

The Continuing Relevance of Stussy

Even if you don’t have any interest in street fashion whatsoever, chances are you’ll have seen Stussy‘s logo around: that iconic, angular graffiti scrawl of the founder’s surname has been ever-present on streets around the world for over 30 years, on hats, t-shirts, jackets and all manner of streetwear staples. As one of the latest additions to our brand roster here at Aphrodite, we feel it’s time to throw the spotlight on the history and significance of Stussy on the fashion industry. While we covered some of this in our brand guide, the guys over at Grailed recently did a profile of the brand as part of its Dry Clean Only series of articles.

Delving into Stussy’s beginnings and working through to analysing its influence and place in the current cultural landscape, the article is well worth a read for new or longstanding fans of the brand. Give it a look over at Grailed, then browse our growing range of Stussy clothing and accessories at Aphrodite Clothing.

Stussy Arrives At Aphrodite – Available Online and Instore Now

Were proud to announce that we are now stockists of Californian brand, Stussy.

The brand was founded on the beautiful sands of Laguna Beach in the early 1980s, when Shawn Stussy was shaping surfboards and adding unique graphics to them. The distinctive logo was achieved when Shawn Stussy began to scribble his surname with black marker pen on the handcrafted surf boards, and was influenced by the signature of his uncle, the artist Jan Stussy. To subsidise his income, Stussy began to use the logo in a range of t-shirts, shorts and caps which he sold out of his car on Laguna Beach.

The range offers staple tees, jackets and caps to give that ultimate casual cool look.

You can shop our full range of Stussy clothing instore or online at Aphrodite.
