Nike Air Ghost Racer

Nike Air Ghost Racer – A Contrasting Continuation

First released in 1998, the Nike Air Ghost Racer was originally created to offer up comfort and stability to all those brave enough to take on anything more than a brisk walk. Named after US long-distance runner Mark Nenow, who acquired the nickname, ‘Ghost Racer’ due to his preference to run at night, the trainers quickly became the shoe of choice thanks to not only their emphasis on performance and accessible price point but their unique design and hauntingly impressive underfoot technology.

Nike Air Ghost Racer

Having enjoyed a return to relevancy earlier in the year with a re-release of their debut neon colourway, the retro sneakers, like many of Nike’s historical heavyweights, have bid adieu to their functional-focused roots and instead opted for a more lifestyle orientated existence.

Nike Air Ghost Racer

Returning in two new colourways, an equally as eye-watering, ‘Orange Peel / Aphid Green’ and more paired back, ‘Cool Grey / Wolf Grey’, the Ghost Racer keeps its original formula largely unchanged. With uppers primarily made from a lightweight, breathable mesh, the trainers boast synthetic leather overlays for added durability and come equipped with a true-to-the-original, supportive midfoot wrap. Below the trainers benefit from Nike’s now revered zoom air technology ensuring plenty of energy-return cushioning with every step and making them perfect for perusing around all your favourite local haunts.

Nike Air Ghost Racer

In the looks department the now 20-year-old Nike Air Ghost Racer finds itself slotting seamlessly into today’s trends thanks to its undeniable, ’dad shoe’ charm. Through a mixture of panelling, cut out sections and textural variations the sneakers conjure a complex array of visual depth, whilst an off-kilter swoosh logo adds a subtle variation to Nike’s usual signature sign off.

You can find both the Nike Air Ghost Racer in both, ‘Orange Peel / Aphid Green’ and, ‘Cool Grey / Wolf Grey’ online and in store now.

adidas Home of Classics Collection

adidas ‘Home of Classics’ Returns

Continuing from the launch of their ‘Home of Classics’ collection earlier this year, adidas present the next instalment of the reflective series which not only pays homage to the effortless styling capabilities of low-top leather sneakers but, celebrates the transcendence of their footwear from purpose-driven sportswear to culturally prominent powerhouses. Arriving on our doorstep in the form of both a re-imagined Continental 80 and Supercourt, the sneakers come dripping in nonabrasive universal appeal and laidback minimal cool, representing the brand’s commitment to quality for over 50 years.

adidas Home of Classics Supercourt

With the latter of the two released just this summer, the Supercourt combines lessons learnt from some of the most monumentous figures in trefoil history with a modern edge, offering up a youthful twist on vintage tennis style. Constructed using a mixture of supple leather and soft nubuck, they come dressed in versatile coatings of triple-white and make use of multi-layered paneling alongside subtle variations in hue to enhance visual depth. Finished with a plethora of nondescript detailing, such as gold metallic branding and perforated sides, the trainers boast an ortholite sock liner and robust rubber outsole for exceptional comfort and grip.

adidas Home of Classics Continental 80

Based on an original 1986 aerobic shoe, the Continental 80 is another of adidas’ bright eyed and bushy tailed styles that can be seen propelling the brand into it’s next generational phase. Bursting at the seams with heritage influence, the sneaker now fulfils a more lifestyle orientated role, displaying an entirely smooth leather makeup and arming its unmistakable split rubber cup sole with a lightweight EVA insert for an extra responsive and cushioned ride. Given to the same all-white treatment, the sneakers display the iconic arching side stripe to their lateral side and come finished with an ’80s inspired window cut-out logo.

adidas Home of Classics Collection

Despite both being relative newcomers to the three stripe party what the trainers lack in years spent pounding the pavements, they make up for with their decisively archival designs and nostalgia driven looks that, when teamed with the collections subdued palette, makes them irresistible additions to even the most congested collection. The adidas ‘Home of Classics’ collection launches online and in store at Aphrodite 17/10/19.

WIN – adidas x Human Made Solar Trainers

adidas, Pharrell Williams and Nigo’s Human Made Join Forces

Drop everything you’re doing, we have some exciting news for you; after nine months of endless trialing and impromptu teasing, the adidas x Human Made collection is finally upon us. Set for launch on the 5th of October, the capsule brings with it two romantic remakes of the iconic Solar Hu and NMD Hu trainers.

adidas x Human Made Collection

Both sneakers are already prominent pictures in Pharrell Williams’ collaborative line up with the Three Stripes label, in which styles regularly showcase the designer’s conceptual mindset and affinity for explosive hues. But, for the new season ahead, both the Solar Hu and NMD Hu opt for a drastically different look that’s peppered with the signature aesthetic of Nigo’s Human Made imprint and adidas’ advanced innovation.

Flanked by responsive cushioning, the adidas x Human Made Solar Hu chooses to turn its back on Williams’ audacious tones, instead, favouring a much more refined aesthetic at the base. Heading back to basics in all-white, the silhouette leans on the sock-like support of Primeknit up top, this knitted fabric not only ensures a breathable ride, but also encourages flexibility through every pursuit. And at the vamp, Nigo opts to position Human Made’s synonymous red logo to the core – vibrantly embroidered, the emblem holds the brand’s moniker close to its heart, while its beating lines represent adidas’ iconic three stripes.

Though the external form of the shoe has been treated to a 360° makeover, its functionality remains mostly the same. Bolstered by a boost™ midsole and a stabilizing Torsion system, the trainer lands and propels smoothly, while its continental rubber outsole provides superlative traction on the ground.

adidas x Human Made Solar Hu White

In like manner, the adidas x Human Made NMD is a shoe after the Solar Hu’s heart. With technology on its side, the trainer powers ahead with the same responsive boost™ cushioning, paired with moulded EVA midsole plugs anchoring both side panels for that signature NMD look. As well as the Human Made heart sitting to the vamp, this iteration also boasts the label’s ‘STRMCWBY’ logo, short for Storm Cowboy, to its leather heel panel. Internally, the design is finished with a colourful diagram that playfully maps out surrounding areas of the body, including the lungs, liver, stomach and so on.

Human Made x adidas NMD Trainer

Since both Nigo and Pharrell have collectively made magic of anything they’ve turned their hand to for decades now, the future is looking bright for the adidas x Human Made collection, with the Solar Hu and NMD Hu silhouettes launching in just a few days time (05/10/19) here at Aphrodite… act fast if you want to catch a pair!

Nike AF1-Type: A Timeless Silhouette with a Twist

A Timeless Silhouette Offered In Two New Exciting Colourways

Returning with a fresh instalment of their newly launched N.354 seriesNike unveils the AF1-Type in “Black / Pink Tint” and “Summit White” colourway.

AF1-Type Black

Originally launched in 1982, the iconic Air Force silhouette was the first basketball shoe that featured a pocket filled with air in the heal for extra cushioning; ensuring support, comfort and a strong foundation. Now, Nike dives deep into the Department of Nike’s Archives to reimagine the pre-production prototype that is the AF1-Type and yields exciting results.

“Black / Anthracite / Zinnia / Pink Tint”

Stripped down but highly detailed, the Air Force 1 Type boasts a handmade aesthetic. Showcasing the brand’s dedication to timeless silhouettes and pushing the boundaries on footwear design. The most recent colourway that Nike has to offer is “Black / Pink Tint”. A unique colour scheme that flaunts detailing that symbolises the past, present and future.

AF1-Type Black Anthracite

AF1-Type Black Anthracite Zinnia

AF1-Type Black Anthracite Zinnia Pink

The pair features several unique elements. A key modification is the Velcro strap closure system that sits across its heel. A transparent skin-like material on the inner of the shoe showcases the closure system and adjustable coral pink details. Handwritten Nike Swoosh resting on the rear tab, seam tape and exposed stitches create a handcrafted effect and gesture a first-draft of a potential future product. Pencilled “n.354” sits proudly to the outer panel, influenced by American long-distance runner Steve Prefontaine’s fastest mile.

A padded stretch tongue gives a retro feel. Round indented segments and perforated pattern add further detailing whilst offering additional ventilation. A double-in-size toe cap, with geometric, crocodile-skin-like patterning, inspired by the technical manuals found inside shoeboxes from the ‘70s and ‘80s. A nostalgic piece of detailing that also presents a futuristic vibe.

“Summit White / Red Orbit / White / Black”

AF1-Type Summit White

The second colourway is “Summit White”. A crisp, clean colour scheme that is equally as iconic as “Black / Pink Tint”. Faux hand drew “n. 354” is dressed in black and sits beneath bright coral tape detailing. A contrasting padded stretch tongue adds an extra pop of colour to the AF1-Type model, boasting cobalt blue. Although minimally branded, the design offers a modern take on a pre-production prototype.

AF1-Type Summit White Red

Known for their comfort and practicality, Nike doesn’t cut corners when it comes to the quality of the AF1-Type. A partial breathable inner sleeve offers a sock-like feel, allowing comfort and ventilation all day long. Flywire cables and adjustable heel strap not only provides a unique closure system but additional support around your midfoot also. The AF1-Type is built with cupsole construction; delivering a harder feeling whilst offering more foot and ankle support. The Nike air unit provides lightweight cushioning and comfort, just like it did back in 1982.

The Air Force body has been a huge success since the ‘80s. The silhouette is now considered a global street culture standard. Frequently being re-envisioned by major fashion houses and Nike designers, there are hundreds of AF1 designs and collaborations available on the market today.

Y-3 FYW S-97: Yohji Yamamoto Remixes An adidas Icon

Y-3 Transforms The Iconic FYW S-97 Sneaker

After more than 16 years of fruitful partnership, adidas and Yohji Yamamoto are working on forging an even stronger alliance; with the Three Stripes label offering Y-3 exclusive access to the FYW S-97 sneaker.

Y3 FYW S-97's

The revolutionary design first debuted in ’97 during a time when the footwear industry hadn’t really got off the ground yet. Trainer technology was still in its inception stage and sneaker styles were delivered through narrowminded visions. Cue the trailblazing tactics of adidas

In-house experts at the sportswear label instilled fresh energy into the industry when they launched their ‘Feet You Wear’ technology. The science behind FYW technology, to which the shoe takes its name, was ambitious in every way. Previous designs had led the way for square-shaped soles, while this runner chose to hone in on the natural contours of the foot. Though more rounded trainers like this were virtually unheard of at the time, the masses embraced them full-force. Thus, setting the wheels in motion for boundless interpretations to come.

Now, in today’s age, where luxury and athleisure often collide – as the Y-3 partnership has so often proved, the FYW S-97 trainer is to take a premium turn. More streamlined than the original, Y-3’s FYW S-97 boasts a strictly angled design at the toe. However, its sharper silhouette still imbues referential flair for the past. These retro details unfold in the wavy lines showcased on the midsole and caging system.

Y-3 FYW S-97 Trainers

Layers of Primeknit can be found across the uppers of both the black and white pairs, something FYW S-97 fans will be used to. Closer up, suede and leather overlays fall in all the usual spots, while a sock-like fit around the ankle provides superlative flexibility.

Perhaps the most distinctive element of this iteration is the Yohji Yamamoto sign off. Etched in white on the black colourway and vice versa, the emblazoned script is truly symbolic of status. A signal from the Japanese designer that these sneakers are wholly Y-3. Finally, dual density Boost™ cushioning propels the foot from the ground upwards. As a result, wearers can expect the smoothest ride ever and unbeatable comfort.Yohji Yamamoto Y-3 FYW S-97

Set to get the streets and the sneaker scene talking, this luxe Y-3 FYW S-97 remix is a game changer. Cop both colourways at Aphrodite in-store or online when the sneakers launch July 18th, 2019.

Balmain Sneaker Collection

Balmain Sneakers First Debut Collection

Chances are unless you’ve been living under some sort of social media repellent rock, you’ve heard of Balmain’s creative director Olivier Rousteing. Taking the helm of the esteemed French fashion house in 2011 Rousteing wasted no time in letting his youthful presence and infectious energy be felt, piecing together not only collections that have fuelled the brand’s continuous evolution but jaw-dropping runway shows, where rubbing shoulders with a vast list of celebrity acquaintances is high on the agenda among spectacular visuals and, of course, quality garments.

Balmain Sneakers

Balmain Sneakers Release

Continuing things on in a contemporary direction Balmain recently announced that they would be treating their vast army of supporters to the brand’s first-ever Balmain sneakers collection. Using Rousteing’s self-admitted sneaker soft spot and a desire to become more accessible as the driving force, the collection sees an amalgamation of a decidedly larger-than-life Balmain design direction with a plethora of influential reference points splayed out across both high and low silhouettes.

First teasing the collection in their SS20 runway show, this focused offering from the brand sees various footwear styles effortlessly blended into singular pieces. Through robust shapes, divisively chunky soles and panelled uppers, many of the trainers up for grabs manage to fulfil two roles at once, simultaneously appearing both sporty sneaker and utilitarian boot. Keeping colours to a minimum the selection instead opts to let both quality materials and unique elements do most of the talking with premium leathers, military-inspired straps and synthetic overlays bringing a sense of well-rounded depth to each individual piece.

Taking a step away from boot-sneaker hybrids the collection also gives way to a familiar low-top outline treated with the same levels of elevated styling. Using the classic sneaker as a canvas, Balmain utilise a purposefully rough around the edges spray-paint treatment to the midsole, allowing the paint to bleed onto the uppers alongside scrawled out ‘Balmain’ and ‘things have to change’ callouts for both a bespoke and edge-driven finish.

Balmain Footwear

Given Balmain’s already astronomically impressive output when it comes to things from the ankles up we are sure this first collection-wide foray into footwear is sure to have something for everyone whether you’re looking for creative design, superb craftsmanship or urban appeal.

The Balmain sneaker collection will be available both online and in store at Aphrodite on 09/07/19.

adidas Nite Jogger: Gear Up To Glow This Season

The Flashy adidas Nite Jogger Returns

The Three Stripes invite you to embrace their day-to-night mentality this season with the impending release of the latest adidas Nite Jogger. Set to take the sneaker circuit by storm, this retro road runner is due for release 6th of July and will arrive here at Aphrodite as a collaborative offering with the reflective experts at 3M.

Penned back in the ‘80s as the shoe ‘to be seen in’, the flashy silhouette was quite literally Nite Jogger by name, Nite Jogger by nature. Its construction guaranteed to deliver a theatrical display on the tarmac after dark, even before 3M detailing crept its way into the trainer scene. Of course in previous years, adidas, and sportswear brands across the board, were expected to think outside of the box in order to light up the ground. These days though, fierce fabrics, technological advancements and industry crossovers make it easier than ever to stay firmly on the radar…

Enter the adidas Nite Jogger 2019:

adidas Nite Jogger Crystal White

adidas Nite Joggers Trainers

adidas Nite Jogger Close Up

Ready to bring its ‘A’ game into the 21st century, the very much new and improved adidas Nite Jogger is truly geared up to glow. Embodying safety, shine and immeasurable substance – the trainer, which comes in crystal white and navy renditions, is a bulbous remake of the original. Across the design’s upper, nylon and mesh drape the silhouette with a feel for flexibility and function, while tonal suede overlays present plush detail to the overall performance formula.

Both colourways boast an exaggerated BOOST™ midsole which not only tunes into the chunky sneaker zeitgeist of today, but also ensures a superlative energy return on the ground. As a result, wearers can expect to overcome a wealth of terrain with this revived runner by their side.

On the whole, the trainer’s definitive focal point is its hi-vis material. Conceived to travel safely at night and, ultimately, avoid danger on the roads, reflective 3M Scotchlite eagerly claims its spot across several areas of the shoe. To begin, the iconic Three Stripes hallmark is replaced with a striking 3M stamp imagined to the jogger’s sidewall. Next, a branded 3M tab locks down the lacing system with an eye for detail and structure. And finally, further head-turning illuminations seek out the heel, ankle and forefront of the Nite Jogger, making it simply impossible for the shoe to slip off the grid.

adidas Nite Jogger Navy

adidas x 3M Nite Jogger

Though the adidas Nite Jogger is made with the late-night sprinter in mind, non-nocturnal joggers are more than welcome to enjoy the supreme build of the design and its showy stance. So, whether you’re hitting the ground running in the am or pm, find comfort in the Nite Jogger’s maximum exposure and intended lack of stealth.

Gear up to glow this season when the archival remake hits Aphrodite online and in-store, July 6th 2019.
